The Russian government has actually done a lot to bring down many of the Oligarchs which were free to to do whatever they wanted under Yeltsin. Also if u you want to get a clear picture you need to read from more sources. The Moscow times are known to be critical of the Russian government on almost all issues. The newspaper is owned by a Finnish company and can be biased. Read from more sources.

Well Russia had gone through a lot of decay in the 90's and it does take time to recover from that. However many regions of Russia are benefiting from the economic growth and some Russians who left the country are coming back. The last 8 years under Putin have been pretty good for Russia.

There are many things I don't agree with Putin but I love the fact he takes control of his country and is tough when he needs to be. Russia has never had a strong economy really thats why it was communist and used slave labor - Russia is just starting to develop really and has a lot of room to grow.
