Yes looted Essence of the Firelord - After Thunderfury. Still looking for Binding from Garr, been soloing him every week for a year for it. Still no joy :(

Dont know is the straight answer. Can try it and see. Dont forget to take at least 2 1 handers as rag slowly reduces the durability of weapons. Best to take 3 and check durability every now and again and change when appropriate.
I tried Rag solo again this week, and it seems to be harder, dont know if blizz have changed something. You now seem to get pinged back into the lava more often. And can take fall damage when landing in previously safe area's.

Soloing Ragnaros isn't really that hard. It's his knockback attacks that is difficult to calculate with. Find the spot where you won't get falling damage from his knockback attacks and stay there - killing him isn't really that hard, and the sons is easy too.
Its very easy to do this at lvl 85

as he does minimal damage to you, can u use a 2H weapon for more dps? seems logical

No addon that is the standard combat text interface - just change Combat Text = Arc.

Been using an addon called "Parrot" for my combat text for ages... didn't even notice Blizz put in a decent combat text interface.

Hes a prot pally, you can see the icon active in his buff.. prot pallys can reset the timer every hit and keep it up at all times
