Check with the cd player company the max mem storage capacity it supports.

You might need to format the disk as FAT32 instead of NTFS for that to work. My stereo with a USB in doesn't work with external hard disks only flash drives for that reason, since flash drives are FAT32.

i have recently made purchase of this product. now, i am not a tech whiz but i am capable of working out certain search criteria. on to the matter. i have a very old PC on which i have stored media. i wanted to transfer this media to my passport..went ahead with no problems. on the same PC the files read out perfectly. however, when i attempt to retrieve these files onto my laptop..some files are missing. from the actual folder themselves. furthermore, some files "could not be retrieved". help!!

Data transfer rates up to 480 Mbps

5400 rpm for fast read/write times

12 ms average read seek time

You cant get 480mb/s out of usb. 480mb/s is what WD says the drive can perform (when connected to a SATA port), however, USB does not support that. 5400RPM is the slowest drive out there.

What transfer rates did you encounter? 10MB/s? 20MB/s?

i got one, it sounds funny when i start it but works nice. but whys it only 238.5 gigs instead of 250 249 or close? thats 22 gigs i cant use why? anyway, my ibook g4, main computer, dosent have enough bus power for this, so i called WD and there sending me the cable free. thats usually 10 bucks.. great.

ive had a 160gb and 250gb wd passport essential both fail on me now after around 6 months, they are crap. both never were never even moved lol they sat ontop of a desktop.

The same way as you do on your computer with your local drives.

Ctrl + c for copy, Ctr + v for paste.

Yes you can, I've put a large vst instrument on this hd, though it takes a second more to render the files. It can be done.

During the data transfer, I noticed you were transferring Simpsons episodes. What programs did you use to copy the video data of a disk to make it playable off a harddrive? Looking for a way to get my DVD's saved to an HDD then playable from there. Sick of carrying around cases of DVD's... Any help would be much appreciated.

To make the videos playable via dvd player, you have to convert them into certain file format.

You need to get a video converter.

If this doesn't help I'll get more info.
