I changed 2 times the CPU in my 6yrs old Aspire 5100. Firstly i changed Turion MK-36 (single core, 2GHz, 512KB L2) to a Turion X2 TL-56 (dualcore 1,8GHz, and 1MB L2 ). And yesterday i managed to get one 65nm Turion x2 TL-60 (dual core, 2GHz, 1MB L2) which consumes less power and produces less heat than the previous 90nm one. And with 4GB 667MHz Kingston RAM i can use my 6yrs old notebook better, and i'm glad because i did the change :D

@jonbuho I dont think so. Each model of Intels new generation i CPU's use specific sockets. You can only upgrade to a i3 with a higher clock speed (ghz).

You CAN swap just about any cpu in your laptop as long as it is the same socket type AND wattage. generally they are. Another good idea is to see what is the best cpu that comes in your laptop line and that would most likely be your best bet. make sure your cpu is not soldered in also. those CAN be swapped but are near impossible.

hey i have a problem. my cpu used to run at 26 deg C but i replaced it recently with a new prosesor. the prosecor was defective so i swap my old one in again and added new grease and put the heatsink on asfar as it would screw in and now my cpu idles at 40 deg C. is it just shitty thermal paste or what?
Nice video. I upgraded my Aspire 4315 to a T5850 Core-2-Duo, very responsive. Just ensure you have the latest bios version 1.16 before upgrading for best CPU compatibility. The latest BIOS can be found on Acers FTP Website, Acer only offers v1.15 on there support site.

@ruvolk24 U remember when Core Duo entered the market (not Core2Duo)? Well, back then the top end Macbook had 2GHz and a proper GPU whereas PC Laptops had to do with 1.66GHz and Intel GMA. hey i have a problem. my cpu used to run at 26 deg C but i replaced it recently with a new prosesor. the prosecor was defective so i swap my old one in again and added new grease and put the heatsink on asfar as it would screw in and now my cpu idles at 40 deg C. is it just shitty thermal paste or what?

Nice video. I upgraded my Aspire 4315 to a T5850 Core-2-Duo, very responsive. Just ensure you have the latest bios version 1.16 before upgrading for best CPU compatibility. The latest BIOS can be found on Acers FTP Website, Acer only offers v1.15 on there support site.

This vid has me high strung. In order to play the game GTA IV on my pc, i found that i needed to upgrade my cpu on my acer aspire 5532 , and was encouraged by the lower prices processor prices. @coyotemoon722 i just brought the acer aspire 5532 from bestbuy for $329.99 the battery is upgradeable you can either purchase another 6 cell battery from there web site or get it free like i did with the warranty by making up a story or you can purchase a 8 cell which is really great up to 3.5 hours maybe 4 max

Nice guide - looks simple enough. Planning to do this when my new CPU arrives from eBay. A couple of questions though:
I'm kind of surprised you put back the heatsink without cleaning off and reapplying the gunge to the chipset (northbridge) as well as the CPU. Any reason other than simplicity?
And again, can I echo the question about this mysterious 1.8 bios. Acer's website only shows a bios 1.15 for the Aspire 4315 (I flashed mine to this yesterday.) Do you have a link to a newer one?
