If you want a realistic and inside look at a banking career, the lifestyle, challenges and opportunities then Google and read "The Banker Who Saved His Soul"
you guys got to check out this video from the US Army War College former Director of Studies Dr. Allen Sabrosky - he states with 100% accuracy Isreal did 911. wow, you would think that would be all over the news networks. I dont hear a thing... anywho - its on You Tube... spread the word -- we got issues to deal with...
Back in the day, did you need a degree to to go into i-banking? Would a top high school have gotten you in? I think a lot of jobs can be learned with on the job experience if you have the brain power. It would almost be smarter to use less schooling, that way when a person enters the industry, they can have many more years behind the business on a fresh mind, and the starting salary could be lower, which could be better for companies. Also professions like law schould be a bachelors degree.

This is hysterical. They're like... I got a bunch of great AAA backed mortgages from paupers owning mansions... oh sure, they'll get rich by being in the house because it won't stop gaining value.
Capitalism is awesome. Invest in crap, get crapped on.
its overglorified dogshit - u can do better trading at home using common sense, instinct and intuition. these ppl are going to get butchered in a bear market. they have no adequate technical skills to fall back on. note knowing vba does NOT qualify as a competent technical skill.
These people aren't investment bankers. They are equity research analysts. Not trying to be anal but they do different things. Bankers advise on transactions and corporate strategies. CFA is good for sellside/buyside research and investment management...not much value for investment banking (only 6% of CFA holders are in banking). For banking you need an MBA from a top program to advance. But pre-MBA bankers usually move on to Private Equity and Hedge Funds. Hope this clear things up.
That's somewhat true, however i-banking covers trading, private wealth management, research, LBO (private equity), debt issuance, and more. M&A is only one segment of an investment bank.
@WrAth2110 indeed. I forgot to mention FICC/Equities.
But TYPICALLY speaking, an i-banker is someone who works in corporate finance whereas a trader is someone who (obviously) works in the trading environment.
@WrAth2110 No. Investment BANKS cover S&T, PWM, research analysis, INVESTMENT BANKING [regional, industrial, and product groups (unless you don't have product groups like Goldman Sachs), none of which include PWM, S&T, research, and more]. Think M&A, leveraged finance, ECM/DCM, FIG, TMT, etc.
@applexy You are correct, not WrAth2110. Investment bankers work in the IBD of investment bankers, hence being investment bankING division, CIBD, etc.
wow, i'm glad i found this i have so mny questions i dont know where to start.
i am currently an accounting major and i just want to know how much in demand are chartered analyst really are
are analyst more in demand than accountants. how easy/hard is it to break from analyst to investment banking. do investment bankers only exist in ne york? what about chicago?
try to find out what 'investment banking' really IS, as there are different parts to the whole.
Define what you think you want to do on a daily basis. For example, if you WANT to be an accountant you may NOT be suited for the mergers and acquisitions side of the house.
In M&A there is much that cannot be defined: An example would be HOW you were able to land a deal. Simply put, much of what the real winner have going for them IS NOT taught in school.
i am this close to getting my bs in accounting and.i plan to go to graduate school immediately.thinking about studying finance. esp corporate finance with a minor in corporate/managarial accounting.i read a lot on investment banking.the salaries are good but the hours are a too much. those people barely have a life to live. they work a ridiculous amount of hours and some dont even make it.my question to is;do you think it would be easier to break into investment banking as a corporate lawyer?
The general law profession is oversaturated in America. I cannot comment on the level of saturation for corporate lawyers. It is always important to research these things.
They usually take college degrees in Finance, accounting or economics to start, though any degree is accounted for provided you have the financial know-how & capacity to learn. It can be a pretty tough field to get into, even with the brand name colleges. If you want to move forward you can take the CFA or get an MBA/Masters in Finance/Accounting. However, the Financial Analysts they show here is not the same as an Investment Banking Analyst.
interesting...how does one bcome a financial analyst ..i mean what kind of education is necessary ...would it be llike a bachelors in fincance or something of that sort ???

Don't call asset managers, salesmen, and traders bankers. That's for the IBD titles (VP and above).

analysts are nothing but manipulators
of criminal organisations called banks.
one might remenber the recommendation of tech stock in the year of 2000. 99% of the analysts were bullish cause they had to be..
