  • Very nice review, I just got kindle 3 after much deliberation [totally hate the newer models]. I found you review very informative and well presented.

Love the anime screen saver by the way ;]

  • @DEEWALROND Thank you, I too am not too fond of the Kindle Touch. There's just something off about it.

  • @DEEWALROND No offense but I hate the Kindle Fire!

  • @Rebs000

No offense taken as i haven't got a kindle fire.Kindle 3 is kindle keyboard [wi-fi only]

  • sorry i ment how do u get manga books onto ur kindle 3? do amazon do it or is there a specific website?? thanks

  • @mangadragon98 No Amazon doesn't do it, nor is there a specific website, however the device does accept pictures like JPG or PNG. It also accepts PDFs. So you just put them all in a folder and off you go.

  • hi great vid , sorry i dont know about the laungage problem >< just asking cause i ordered a kindle a couple of days ago, can u get manga comics/graphic noveks on a kindle?? :) thanks

  • @PharaohsVizier

    I love clannad too :3

  • If only there was full colour browsing. That really sucks and for parents downloading childrens books for the kids, greyscale is so last century.

    C'mon Kindle!

  • Please could you tell me if the 3G kindle is able to accept French text (ie all the accents and French words etc). I have French books on my PC on the kindle computer 'app' as I'm developing my french and doing a course. I am in the UK and the cheaper new £89 kindle will accept other languages, but it won't read out loud which I would like to use sometimes eg when I am ill and want to listen to a book rather than read (I don't buy audio books). Thanks for your time. Wudgee.

  • @wudgee I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure. I have read French on the device, I know it shows accents, etc. You can also purchase French - English dictionaries to work with it. However I don't know if it'll read out loud. There are patches online to change the voice and language, I've done it with Chinese, but I'm unsure about French, sorry!

  • One question that has not been answered yet in any review I have viewed. How do you move e-book files from the pc to the kindle? Do you sync through the USB or is that just used to recharge the device? Also is it possible to back up files from the kindle to my pc?

  • @Ga8torFan It is just like a USB flash drive, you plug it in, drag the files over. If you use whispernet (download from the device) the file just shows up on your device and you can transfer everything out.

  • I've been reading/ watching many reviews and I must say that yours is one of the more thorough and orginals ones I've seen. Thank you.

  • Are you sure about the ocr software?? have you test that function any further?

  • @FelipeMunita I didn't explicitly test it any further, but I did read quite a few PDF files on it. As long as it is relatively clear, it works quite well.

  • I can import pdf books from my computer to the Kindle?

  • @maxkanguro2011 yep, but PDF's aren't great on the Kindle 3, it's too slow and the screen is too small.

  • Black Butler!

  • Haruhi no manga! !!!

I hadn't thought of that use for the kindle! as an ilustration presenter, or manga reader,,,! I'm getting one of the touch ones with 3G and Wifi!

  • @6.02 "lemn" IS a word. It means "wood" in Romanian :) just sayin' :)

Thank you for this review, found it more useful than others. I was especially interested in various type of content books and their display. Can't wait to get one...

  • Thank you for the response. Can't wait to get the Kindle.. It will be nice to be able to carry all your books. Plus it is cost effective to buy the Kindle versions. Most are half price compared to the hard copy.

  • @bournepriest yea it is fantastic, I read a lot more now that it is so handy.

  • Manga, nice, thank you very much for the review. What site is that Manga? I'm looking for Claymore that continues the story after the TV episodes.. Kindle looks awesome. Something specifically for reading but now has other features and free internet. I wish they would have solar power recharge for it like the Casio watches...Now that would be awesome...

  • @bournepriest Well no site in particular, I just grabbed some random manga and tried it out. That said, you can try out MangaFox for your Claymore needs.

  • does 3g work in canada, im not sure if we have at-nt here, and would 3g be availible in more remote areas liek campgrounds and stuff without the greatest cellular signals?

  • @thomasfisher24 Yes, I'm in Canada. They use Telus and Rogers. Depending on how remote the area is, you might get reception, you might not.

  • i saw in another video that the kindle has a microphone, What would that be used for?

  • @steph505521 The Kindle does have a mic on the bottom between the power button and the volume buttons, but it currently serves no purpose. There is nothing that uses that mic. Some have speculated that it might be used for voice control, voice memos, etc. My guess is they added it in there just in case they wanted to use it in the future as older Kindles also had non-functional features.

  • Hi, I am really interested to get the kindle. But i would like to know some things about this kindle. one reason why im getting this kindle is because of its wifi support.

does it allow you to surf the internet for eg; facebook/ hotmail and do they charge you if you surf to such sites?

and can you keep mp3/mp4 in the kindle so you can listen to the songs through the kindle?

  • @tomjavonich36 Yes it'll let you surf the web, though don't expect flash. It isn't speedy, but it is acceptable. WiFi is free. The 3G connection is also free in most areas, and they only charge you for specific services (such as their Kindle email thing). This is true for most major countries like Canada, US, Britain, China, etc. However if you are in some remote areas, I'm not too sure if the rates change or anything. And yes the Kindle plays MP3s though it isn't great.

  • i dont have wifi at home...will the 3g one still allow me to buy books from my kindle if i just have regular internet without any wireless connection?

  • @xxxkathylaurenxxx Yep, they make sure you can buy books pretty much in any case possible. In your case, you can either connect it to your computer and buy (I assume your computer has internet) or you can connect to wireless hotspots elsewhere, say at Starbucks or something.

  • A Harry Potter book is NOT a normal size. Unfortunately, you can't get Harry Potter books on Kindle, but I bought every single one of the books anyway.

  • why is 3g internet free for the kindle, but we have to pay for internet (data) on phones? just wondering.

  • @robmundo The online capabilities of the Kindle is all either downloading books or the web browser. Though the browser is acceptable, it is hardly a fully functional browser, so you aren't going to sap up a lot of data. In fact, I'd bet that most people aren't using their 3G connections much.

  • Can I use the web browser on 3G for free? Do I get 3G wherever AT&T is available or do I use a hotspot?

  • @FuturamaFan1011 Yes you can use the web browser with the 3G. Assuming you are in America, you should pretty much get 3G connection anywhere.

  • @PharaohsVizier Thanks for the help!!!

  • nice review! can we listen to mp3 while reading? coz i always listen to a soft background music when im reading a book or manga, i hope this device capable of doin that also =)

  • @vezodus it is.

  • @vezodus Yes you can, though the music player isn't great. That is to say it'll play music and it'll do it fine, but it doesn't shuffle, it doesn't randomize, you can't even see what song you are currently playing.

  • @PharaohsVizier oh I see . . .how about repeating function? , i mean can it repeat songs? to me during reading its really refreshing if I listen to a nature sound or a bonfire a distant bell etc , but if it cant its still ok , i play that with my mp3 player =)

  • @vezodus yea it'll loop and loop and loop

  • @PharaohsVizier oh thats very nice then =D

  • The manga that you have shown is a PDF?

  • @otti90ch Nope, just regular pictures, so... jpg, maybe png, not sure which one was for the video.

  • Is that Tomoyo?

  • Clannad. nice review

  • iPod touch

  • Oh no no no no no. Im not hacking anything. That destroyed my last iO

  • @joshkorp19 Well then you won't be able to use anything but the default screensavers. I should tell you that "hacking" the Amazon Kindle is nothing like the iPod touch, it is completely foolproof. The iPod Touch however varies from model to model, has its risks and so on.

  • @PharaohsVizier so you actually picked out those pictures, or you chose one of the themes it came with. And can I set my own Picture to it?

  • @joshkorp19 Yep I picked those pictures, they are just png files on my computer that I transferred in. But you do need to apply a hack (runs just like any Amazon update file) so that you can use screensavers.

  • &PharaohsVizier so you pick out the pictures yourself, or do you choose a theme or something? I can I make it my own picture?

  • Hi, I have a question. Can you set your backgrounds to different themes like nature? Cause you had two different pictures of amine girls. Did you set that?

  • @joshkorp19 Yep I set that, so you can make it any background you want.

  • Great review! U are the only one that has shown the games. So thanks.

Question: How can I get Black Butler Manga? Kindle store doesnt have it. Thanks.

  • @gmed2 Uhhh, I just downloaded it online. I don't even read Black Butler :P

  • Hey good review....

One question how did you get the anime screensavers?

  • @roronoa1234 Google "Fonts & ScreenSavers hacks for Kindle 2.x & 3.x [UPDATED 09/24/10]", it's the first result. I would post a link, but youtube isn't letting me post even a heavily censored link.

In any case it's fairly simple to do, it works just like the regular Kindle updates. :)

  • YAY for Kindles!!! :) Now go shuffle row your head off! :)
