Marlow joined KNXT in January 1981. The WBBM Theme was brought to KNXT in 1978 by GM Van Gordon Sauter and ND Jay Feldman, who came from Chicago and brought with them Brent Musburger, Mike Parker, and others. The WBBM theme had words!--"I love Chicago, Chicago my home..." The logo stayed until the station became KCBS in '84; WCBS adopted it and still uses a slanted form of it.
the theme music is WBBM Channel 2 News Theme by Dick Marx, WCAU in Philadelphia did not use it until 1981, and WCBS in New York did not use it until 1982.

Yeah, and he left for a five-year stint over at KABC before returning to Channel 2.

It's from 1982, but a year earlier they adopted "The Team to Watch" which was used for WBBM, WDVM, WJW (when they were called WJKW) and WCBS.

Thanks for posting the clip, but a point of clarification...
Jess didn't join channel 2 until 1980, and based on the "gold" 2 in the open, I'm guessing this is '81 or '82. Definitely not before '80 though.
