The Acela is 666 feet in length. It passed the camera in three seconds. Times 60 seconds....times 60 minutes equals it's speed in feet per hour. Divided by 5280 feet per mile equals 151 miles per hour in this video.
Hey you think that was fast? Just wait till you see what Australia Is Rolling out shortly. The 190 billion HSR-Link has aready started tho the Train hasnt been built yet but shorty will. Youtube or google: A-HSV.
No, it's not a maintnance issue at all. It has to do with the number of curves and moveable bridges. Japan and Europe built corridors for high speed trains and made them as straight as possible. The US is using exisiting tracks that do not offer the same advantages. The speeds are going to increase as upgrades are made.
I thought it looked like it went right past a platform on the other side? Unless I'm seeing things. Kinda hard to tell, thought there was a yellow line.
Wrong. There are only two tracks through Canton station and each has a platform. There is no inside track. Speed through Canton station for Acela trains is 130mph.
I like how I see the video header reading 100 MPH, the video itself saying 80, and the description saying 70... I was beginning to set myself for a disappointment (restricted speed anywone?) but it had the opposite effect, made the video that much more exciting. Nice shot!
That's about 125mph

The further you get into this video, the slower the train goes. I was almost expecting some type of digital speedometer to say 60 mph as it passed...

Nice video! I like how you timed it so the camera stays attached to the back of the train as it passes.

The Japanese trains go around 175 mph tops. That is only 15mph faster then an Acela. Hardly twice as fast.
55EPIC 2 years ago
Really? 581 kmh=361mph (The Japanese JR-Maglev)
nofreedomofspeech 2 years ago
That is the Maglev. A completeley different type of train system. No wheels, no rails. I am talking about the fastest conventional trains in Japan.
55EPIC 2 years ago
@55EPIC The N700 reached 270 mph.
gibb1991 1 year ago
That's the fastest Acela I've ever seen. Great catch in the night!!

I'm surprised they're not required to slow down passing through the station.
Nice.
TheDeathMonkeighs 2 years ago
that train is nowhere near the station. The station(s) have an 'inside line' for these situations, perfectly safe.
