Same problem - it began after the fall 11 software update (i bought it 7/2009 and it worked perfectly for over a year). The photo freeze for me only happens when i take a photo in low-light with no flash. I usually get 1-2 before it freezes and shuts off.
I have cleared everything...unmounted / removed the SD card and finally, done a factory reset. Nothing has worked. i cannot take any pics after sunset or even indoors (unless there's bright light) now, so it's useless most of the time.
My incredible S camera wont work at all, I open the camera and it just goes blank, I went to the store where I got it and found out I am avilable for Upgrade, so Im getting an IPHONE !
Exact same problem here. Brand new phone as of 8/10/2010. Lots of reports of this bug. For me, saving to the SD card did not do it. Neither did a hard reboot or a task killer. Some even suggested a software conflict with the accelerometer during rotation from portrait to landscape. HTC appears to know about it because those who complain and get them replaced no longer have the problem. I wonder if they haven't bothered fixing current inventory & just wait for people to complain & then swap them
@madebyeve i just switched the storage to the SD card and haven't had the problem just yet. I'll keep trying it out but it appears to have worked - thanks
my camera has the same problems. i am going to take to the verizon store because yesterday i called up their tech support and all they said was to shut off the phone once or twice a month to allow it to "rest"... i have had the phone for 5 days now. hopefully they will replace it..
Same exact problem here. The only solution I have found is to go into my task killer, shut down the camera app then open it again and I can then take one (1) photo before it starts all over again.
@JDBMOC16 Get yours replaced by Verizon. They sent me a new one and I sent the old one back in a prepaid box. I've never had the problem since. The new camera works great.
a factory reset might help. just because it was factory set when you got it doesnt mean anything. sometimes when setting up the phone a error message comes up. a factory reset can help clear that error. if all else fails. You can take it back to verizon. there is the 30 day warranty or the extended warranty. my advice is to take to verizon within 30 days after you got. let the phone tec. play with it. if he cant get it to work he will give you a new one free of charge.
@goofymaniak20 if you have a task manager or task killer, that might be the problem. because with that app open it can kill an alarm even in sleep mode.
@MCfar1in . That was the problem in the my incredible...googled it a lot and found nothing regarding.. now uninstalled the task kill app.. works like a charm. Now my setting is to save in SD card. Nice find dude!
I took a factory reset for this @ verizon store and they said this issue was never reported.
im having trouble with the s&%#@ alarm can any1 help... it wont make any sound or vibrate...i troubleshoot it already didnt work.... triple check all setings and still doesnt work...but if i set up an alarm for a minute after it does work.... i been late to work twice since i bought this phone :(

In low lighting you have to touch the screen to focus it. Works every time for me. Don't replace the phone. You don't need to.
