She was a Yemenite Jew but later immigrated to Israel. She sings in Hebrew. This song is from a poem by Rabbi Shalem Shabazi who was one of the most highly honored poets of Yemenite Jewry in the 17th Century. Ofra died of an AIDS related illness on February 23, 2000. She was only 42.
