  • The song itself wasn't that bad... but... Rody was freaking bad at the time! Fortunately, he became one of the greatest vocalist in rock universe! :)

  • Nice to see how they begin their Journey through awesomnes. every band once stand there. but some kept staying there but not PTH. they are too awesome.

  • for a second i didnt think that was Rody, but yup its Rody, PTH fucking rules!

  • This is hoooooorrriiibbbbllllleeeeee. The progression that it shows is wonderful, on the other hand.

This is my first and last listen though.

    Fuck.

  • @MindOfPagan

I keep coming back to this song, I like how it's kinda punk and upbeat

  • @MrWiggerdale123 Haha, I hate "punk" though. If I were to listen to any it'll def be the newer stuff :3

  • what album is this on?

  • @chunterr39 Happy go lucky i think I could be wrong though

  • Scurrilous is made of so much win! every song on that album is on my top 25 most played songs

  • Where did you get all these really old PTH songs?!

  • how could anyone enjoy listening to this? it sounds like it was recorded on a camera phone

  • @gordonbeckham Maybe if you enjoy listening to Protest the Hero and don't care about sound quality?

  • @gordonbeckham Camera phones didn't exist when they recorded this.

  • @yosejiakira no, it was most likely done with one of those old tape-recorders. that was what my band did for our first demo.

  • @gordonbeckham Because if we didn't listen to this we wouldn't have epic tunes such as Sex tapes or Seqouia throne...

  • is this off an album?

  • they need a new album ASAP

  • Does anyone know if this is on an EP or non studio album? Or is it just a random track?

  • It's really cut to listen adolescent Rody's voice. I think they're really improved now, but I love them when they were teenagers sooo much. I don't understand , why Rody so criticizes himself when he's talking about hes "childhood". Anyway, I love them as much as then when they were "kids" ♥

  • Was this when they were 14?

  • yeah they were in grade 9 when this song was recorded @Sup3rH4nZ

  • can someome tell me that song lyrics ?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

  • they've really come a long way

  • this song is awesome, wish the quality was better lol

  • What the fuck, there is no way this is PTH.

  • @TheCapstanShanty Well it is, when they were around 14-15 lol no joke

  • oh andddd btw there are many different types of jazz, improvisational, and structured so get your shit straight...not all jazz is improvisational...free-form jazz yeah that's improvisational because they don't write fucking songs, they just continually change keys, modes, and write colorful phrasing..so yes that is jazz.

  • @bebop0409 ooh you differentiated between two amazingly broad ways to play jazz. you are so knowledgeable. please tell me more about jazz, maestro. i did not realise that all improvisation that contains key, modal and phrase variation is jazz. oh right. because it fucking isn't. you dumb fuck.

  • @LegalDuck lmao well i bet i'm a ten times better musician than you...so i'm not worried about your theories of what "constitutes genres"...who gives a fuck what the genre is really. progressive music is basically a mixture of different genres. but whatever i just don't see how you can think protest is more musically talented...most of their stuff sounds exactly the same...and i understand that jazz looks to seek new realms by never really keeping the same song structure, or even meter.

  • @bebop0409 dude you're an idiot. for one, you have no idea how musically talented/knowledgeable I am and for another that doesn't mean shit. The fact is you clearly don't know shit about prog because you say "progressive music is basically a mixture of different genres" which it isn't. all "progressive" music is is doing something in music that is viewed as progressing music. a progressive band may mash genres, but that isn't the definition of the genre.

  • lol and it has jazz tonality, there's no denying that...idc what you say...i can play jazz fluently, can you? you probably can't even do figured bass, or voice leading for choral arrangements.

  • @bebop0409 really don't give a fuck about how good you are at playing jazz. if you think jazz tonality=jazz music you're retarded. and i think some of cynic's stuff is jazz influenced but no i wouldn't call them jazz. the instrumental side project of their guitarist, called "Exivious" is jazz/metal fusion though. don't know if you've heard of them but if not definitely check them out

  • @LegalDuck well i was just saying most progressive bands mix genres...lol...and i actually haven't listened to exivious...thanks for the info though!

  • @bebop0409 no problem

  • @LegalDuck more like "Jizzcore"

  • @LegalDuck one more question do you consider parts of cynics music to be jazz? or not? is that just jazzcore?

  • For the guys arguing about BTBAM and PTH...

Are you fucking serious? BTBAM aren't half as good as PTH at writing beautiful music. Although PTH are on the metal / hardcore side of music, they're very easy to listen to and their progression in each song is as epic as the last. BTBAM are overrated tbh, the solo in selkies isn't great and his screams are mediocre at best. Rody is 10x better vocally, and fuck the most powerful you've heard? Listen to attack attack!'s new album and tell me that again

  • @LarshHarry dude attack attack is overproduced bullshit...they are terrible live so just stop....pth continously recycles riffs just like lamb of god same shit different song...and you're fuckin retarded the selkies solo is amazing..it's a difference of opinion i suppose but paul is overall much better..he can play any genre of music as if he's a virtuoso in it.

  • @bebop0409 That's why i said NEW ALBUM. I hope you're trolling, the solo is naff. Also, PTH recycle riffs? LOL. How can you actually think Paul is much better over all? PTH's guitarists shit all over him, the same for the bassist. They can also play any genre of music... Nice similie you have there, except in my example it's just fact.

  • @LarshHarry haha i guess they can they just don't? cuz they don't have blues, or jazz, in their music...i mean not sayin they can't, but it's just not evident from listening to the their music....i love pth, i just think everyone is dissing btbam when they are obviously outstanding musicians. you cannot tell me even if you hate every other part of the band that blake richardson isn't a sick drummer, and paul is an awesome guitar player i mean c'mon you know that he is extremely skilled.

  • @bebop0409 omg dude shut the fuck up. there is no jazz at all in btbam's music. if you think that you're retarded. and yeah i agree theyre amazing instrumentalists. now all they need to do is learn how to write songs

  • @LegalDuck lmao dude exactly what MEMgrizzlies7 said ants of the sky jazz....the clean solo in mordecai is jazzy. a small moment within decade of statues...and most of dans basslines are jazz influenced especially the runs he uses...and i believe that they write songs very well...i think you just don't like it, and you're gonna bash it no matter what so i shouldn't waste my day on you!

  • @bebop0409 the clean solo in mordecai isn't jazzy at all. holy shit. do you know what jazz is? just because something is improvised in a way that isn't fucking pentatonic doesn't make it jazzy. god. i mean i know a lot of smart btbam fans but you're not helping the stereotype

  • can't hear the lyrics that well

  • they suck here. i'm glad they got 20 times better. haha

  • pth>btbam because they actually have a decent vocalist

  • @LegalDuck

I'm not going to argue that BtBaM is better, but you can't say that their vocalist is not decent. No, he's not as good as Rody in clean vocals, but his screams so good, and his clean vocals are GOOD.

  • @EpitomeofE dude btbams vocalist sucks ass. his screams are hoarse and weak and his cleans are terrible.

  • @LegalDuck dude, tommy has some sick cleans. ever heard backwards marathon?

  • @LegalDuck Dude, you're retarded. Just listen to Mordecai, Sun of Nothing, MIRRORS, or anything really. Tommy Rogers is one of the best vocalists I've ever heard, and his growls are sick too.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7

I've listened to btbam's entire discography, probably more than you. My point still stands that his voice is horribly weak and raspy when he uses growled vocals, and a thin whine when he uses cleans

  • @LegalDuck Have you heard him live? He's amazing, and I have no idea what you're talking about, because he definitely does not have a weak growl or whine.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 Yeah i have and hes even worse live than he is on a cd. he has some of the worst gutturals ever.

  • @LegalDuck facepalm.jpg

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 hey dude youre the one that thinks rogers is a good vocalist, not me

  • @LegalDuck I don't think he's a good vocalist, I think he's an AMAZING vocalist. Sure you can not like his voice (although I don't know how), but it's just ignorant to ignore his musical talent.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 he's a shit vocalist. i mean he's technically shit. his breath support, tone and power is all shithouse. there are so many better vocalists around i dunno why this dude gets any praise at all. def the least talented out of the whole band

  • @LegalDuck Not only is he (IN MY OPINION) an amazing vocalist, but a lot of times he sings while playing keyboard. Which (if you've ever tried before) is REALLY hard to do, and he does both flawlessly. And if you somehow can't recognize his talent on the keys, SWIM TO THE MOON KEYBOARD SOLO.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 swim to the moon was a piece of shit. in fact that whole album was except mirrors. btbam sucks now. it's a shame. they started so well too. the silent circus is so good

  • @LegalDuck You're such a fucking bad troll. The Great Misdirect is probably BtBaM's best album. The Silent Circus sucked except for a few songs (Mordecai is my favorite song of all time however). Let me guess, you don't like Colors either?

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 i'm not trolling you dipshit. TGM was one of the most boring prog metal albums that i've heard. it had like 8 cool parts in total surrounded by countless shit parts. mirrors was good and parts of obfuscation and the intro to swim to the moon were cool. thats it. TSC was their most complete and well written/balanced albums. only bad part is tommy was an even worse vocalist then than he is now

  • @LegalDuck Most boring prog metal album you've ever heard? OK, so I guess Fossil Genera was boring and completely not unique. Oh yeah, Disease Injury Madness sure did suck...

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 yeah that's my point. they blew

  • @LegalDuck You're so fucking stupid. Listen to Ants of the Sky and there is definitely a jazz solo in there. Also, DT > BTBAM > PtH. Protest is one of my favorite bands, but they don't come close to DT or BTBAM

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 dude theyre not jazz influenced at all. anyone saying that there's a jazz solo in ants of the sky is somone who's never listened to jazz before and thinks anything written moderately close to a blues scale constitutes jazz. i mean you can keep asserting that opinion but i'm gonna keep calling you an idiot if you do. and dt sucks almost as much as new btbam. pth sucks pretty bad too but at least their vocalist can, yknow, sing.

  • @LegalDuck Seriously, what bands do you actually listen to?!? So far you sound like a close-minded fuck that hates everything.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 dude do you know what closed minded means? it means youre NOT open to trying new things. i already said i've listened to everything btbam has put out. i listen to a whole bunch of stuff

  • @LegalDuck It also means that you only listen to a couple of bands that most likely sound the same, and good job on avoiding the question.

  • It doesn't really mean that, but that's a common characteristic among closed-minded people, yes. What's the point of me telling you what bands I listen to?

  • @LegalDuck Because it seems like you think every band someone has brought up here sucks, and I want to know what you actually consider "good"

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 that's because they all brought up shitty bands. well bands i like that fans of btbam could possibly like too would be early opeth, neurosis, converge, botch, immolation, bolt thrower, death, cynic's album Focus, cursed, knut and some other stuff. that's all metal/hardcore. other stuff is radiohead, bon iver, dead kennedys, daniel bjarnason, max richter, mesa verde, panopticon, pelican, agalloch, belenos, fall of efrafa, dinosaur jr, titus andronicus, shining, summoning.

  • @LegalDuck I haven't heard of a lot of that stuff, but Cynic and Dead Kennedys are pretty good. I like some Converge as well.

  • @MEMgrizzlies7 if you like converge and these guys check out Botch. also try Opeth if you like cynic, these guys and dream theater.

  • @LegalDuck Glad that argument's over. You both had valid arguments AND blatantly biased opinions, but this IS the internet, after all,so if you're a jazz theory major at so and so university, good for you,if you're a talented freelance musician in a band playing weekends, good for you, hold that pride in,but don't trollevery single youtube video's comments arguing like 5 year olds, no matter what musicalbackground experience you possess-When will people ever learn, you won't win a fight on the web

  • @princeofprog of course we have blatantly biased opinions opinions are inherently biased wtf. hey bro i also have hairy hair and kinda leggish legs.

  • @LegalDuck lolwut

  • @princeofprog my point is opinions are always biased. you can't have an opinion that isn't biased because then it wouldn't be an opinion. so calling an opinon biased would be like calling ice freezing.

  • @LegalDuck dude you're fuckin retarded he's got an insanely powerful scream...you're fuckin stupid there music is more technical than protests and he's better live i love protest but btbam is just better dude...they are flawless

  • @bebop0409 technicality in music can be a detriment as well as a good thing. btbam makes it a detriment because their music is basically aural masturbation. and his screams are shit.

  • @LegalDuck dude you're fuckin stupid..they've written some of the most memorable things i've ever heard. You cannot honestly say that the solo is selkies or the outro in mordecai isn't beautiful music. Also, Tommy's screams are more powerful than anybody's i've seen live, and they are always perfect. You shouldn't bash a band that you couldn't do better than. I love protest, but i love btbam more. You can't honestly tell me you think these vocals are better than Tommy. and if you do you're dumb!

  • @bebop0409 hah dude if their bullshit guitar wank is memorable to you you haven't listened to enough music. The dudes don't know how to write songs. All they can do is mindlessly mash genres and masturbate their instruments for about 8 minutes then call it a song. There's no progression in the songwriting. If anything they've become less mature songwriters. And I can name like 20 people who are better guttural vocalists just off the top of my head. but there are probably more than a hundred.

  • @LegalDuck dude if you can't handle the genre shifts that means you're just not with where they are taking music...if dream theater would put them on prognation then they are obviously worthy..paul waggoner is a better musician than either of these guitar players...they are metalcore technical but metalcore...and live i know for a fact that tommy rogers is amazing..he is incredible at clean vocals, and his live vocals are very powerful...so shut the fuck up...

  • @bebop0409 haha dude Dream Theater is even worse than BTBAM. at least BTBAM has a couple of good albums. DT has none at all. why are you getting so angry about it? i mean seriously. i think you're just butthurt because you know i'm right. rogers is a shitty ass vocalist. i mean sometimes his voice actually makes me laugh

  • @LegalDuck I love how you say that like it's not an opinion. That's just your ridiculous opinion. Dream Theatre is a fantastic band, and at least they hold a steady beat for more than 2 bars, Between the buried and me just sounds like a bunch of shit, and their live shows sound identical to the recording..boring as FUCK

  • @ggggggggwar dream theater is terrible. they write pretentious, long winded bullshit that, while a little more coherent than the wankery of btbam still isn't at all rewarding to listen to. it's sugary, cheesy, boring crap. theres far better progressive metal out there. progressive in the truest sense of the word i.e. it actually takes music different places rather than just forgoing a verse/chorus/verse structure or putting in 30 solos a song

  • @LegalDuck okay then legal duck then by what you just said between the buried and me is more progressive than most bands because none of their songs have choruses..lol anddd they don't have thirty solos a song three at most...you want to talk about wankery talk about faggonforce or something...where most of the song is solos...honestly you can't talk shit if you can't play any of that stuff...and btw i'm in the jazz program at morehead state university so i think i know what jazz is dumbfuck.

  • @bebop0409 dude the first half of your comment was so retarded...i dont even know what...were you taking my ironic description of what constitutes prog these days seriously? because i don't think btbam or dt is that progressive at all in the truest sense of the word. a band i can think of that's actually progressive would probably be like maudlin of the Well or something.

Wow dude that sucks for you if youre telling the truth. I'd be really sad if i was taking jazz and i didnt know what it was

  • @LegalDuck Well your right about one thing, and that is it's more coherent than btbam.

  • @ggggggggwar haha at least we agree on one thing

  • Anyone have the lyrics?? I can't find them anywhere...

  • @boveer

    lol nice try buddy

  • This is history here if you think about it.

  • they should maker their next album metal/punk like this maybe...

  • no... theyre the best progressive band out there. they should stay with that.

  • @YOWHATTHEHELLUP71 btbam.

  • yes yes, but.... pth is really good.

  • true they is kick ass

  • why do I like this???I shouldnt but I do....sick band!

  • lol agreed

  • Their really old shit like An apathetic new world along with the others on that album kinda suck.. No ima be honest.. They really sucked that album

  • they where also 14, in a basment studio with a very very small budget. the skill level i think for that age, and the style they where going for at that time they where sick considering.

  • Rody said himself that the album sucked so its all good.

  • Fortress makes me cream my pants... Along with Kezia.

  • theres a handful of songs on Fortress that had emotional parts like near the end of the dissentience, goddess gagged.

  • i bet rody hates whomever put this up

  • they were still pretty good.

    but they got WAY better.

kezia was lyrically better, but fortress kicks the crap out of the world as far a technical ability and just flat out crazy shit goes.

    pth! FTW!

  • They went from THIS to Fortress? Not saying this is bad(it's not), but that's such a drastic change XD

  • no they went from this to Kezia. they use to be called happy go lucky during their teenager years and this was one of their songs that they wrote back then.

  • Did they not go from this to Search for the Truth then ACUOS then Kezia?

  • Comment removed

  • I fucking love this!

  • haha im from whitby(where theyre all from) and as rody said in an interview " theres really nothing better to do in whitby other than play music" and thats y theres so many new bands comming from this area. check out the bands "of soldiers and saints", "death of riley" and "pushing up daisies".

  • so this songs, aren't in any of the eps? (2002,2003)?

  • old shit is so much better

  • mmm happy go lucky, amazing back then, amazing to date

  • yo this is like THE HOLY GRAIL OF PTH lol.

  • that honestly sounds like some shit kid band that decided to post as PTH but im not gonna say it is or it isnt... thats just how it sounds to me.

  • this is their very first stuff lol. they were a little kid band haha they were like 15 for this.

  • it actually is pth. no joke.

  • Happy go Lucky to be exact. them at 15 lol i think

  • Actually this is them at 12/13.15 was their first EP

  • ew they sound like shit. their new stuff is better obvsly

  • they recorded it with 12 fuckr -.-

  • they have ot be older then 12

  • they do sound like highschoolers..haha. cute

  • The reason they sound SO different is because when they first started playing in high school under the name Happy Go Lucky, they played what is now known as "Technical Punk" (based on it being amazingly technical for punk).

Then they moved to a more progressive metal, and now to Thrash, Punk, Mathcore, Progressive, Math Rock, Power Metal, style of thing.

Yes A LOT of sub genre in music now a days.

  • so this is seriously them? and not some bullshit piece of music a bunch of 14 year olds put together?

  • They were only 12-16 when they made this.

  • This was when rody was writing the songs too

  • Is that one of the old songs before Rody's balls dropped?

  • clearly

  • They sounds sooo diffrent
