This movie reminds me of The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven, lots of stars in an action-packed movie.

The Expendables is indeed an homage to those films (not 80's films as so often remarked, though it does star 80's stars because that's the age of the roles). Besides Dirty Dozen, Great Escape, Magnificent 7, also recommend for background on this film The Guns of Navarone (and Force 10 from Navarone), Hell is for Heroes, Kelly's Heroes, A Bridge Too Far, Battleground, Von Ryan's Express, The Devil's Brigade, Where Eagles Dare, The Bridge at Ramagen, The Eagle Has Landed, and The Big Red One.

He turned it down because the plot is the same all over again. Explosions,explosions and violence. The audiences are well over this kind of movie. Stallone should pass the page and move on. Rambo,the first one ,was good but that formula is old and boring.

Gibson and Russell are great chooses I'd love to see Gibson in the sequel but if you look at recent pictures for a 53 year old he looks late 60s now looks really bad stallone looks much younger.
