  • Please invest in a few microphones. Great interview, but the traffic is as louder than the dialogue.

  • Very nice. Love the bit about traveling light

  • I bought a couple of lessons of Jim about a year ago and chatted during our email correspondence. He is a really down to earth human as well as being a terrifying player. Great, great guy. Thanks for this super upload.

Loved how decorates his Brooklyn apartment with Fender amps!

  • @JustinSandercoe

Um, next time, upload your FORTY-EIGHT minutes of footage in MULTIPLE videos, por favor:S I have the patience to watch 48 minutes, but my internet doesn't have the patience (or strength) to upload it:/

Thanks for posting, anyway; learning to love this guy!

  • One of the best musicians you've interviewed so far, Justin. Thank you, it was very interesting !

  • What pick does he use? Does he sometimes use a coin?

  • hey i know the b 12!!!!! unfortunately im just a novice hobby player for over 20 yrs but i play for fun and enjoyment i wish i had learned theory i guess its never too late but jim is awesome very tastefull

    and so gifted !!!

  • I've purchased a number of lessons from Jim and they're great - I highly recommend them.

While you're at it, get Orange and let those notes soak into your brain.

To quote the Violator, "it's gonna change you!".

  • Fantastic interview - much thanks for posting. Jim is such a dynamic player. I love his phrasing and melodic instinct.

  • He is fantastic and passionating ! Thank you so much for this wonderful interview, that was so good I took my guitar on the spot and played at the same time than him (at least, tried to :)).

His points on Roy Buchanan are quite fair, he was one of the best guitar players I've ever heard, with an amazing feeling and technique.

  • Very cool you got to talk with Jim. Thanks for sharing. Orange is a great album.

  • JUSTIN! THANK YOU! Hes my favourite current guitarist! THANK YOU!

  • Man, Round Midnight came out of nowhere! That was awesome.

  • I really admire how you keep learning and exploring the world of the guitar yourself so you can give us the best lessons available on the internet!!

  • CLOSE THE WINDOW OH MAN!!!!! hahaha

  • Fantastic video Justin!, It's guys like this that keep me interested in guitar. His enthusiasm for the instrument is truly remarkable, and yet, he doesn't seem to boast or gloat. A very humbling experience. I'll be checking out some more of his stuff after watching this.

    Cheers! :D

  • Cannonball Rag at 47:35

  • Jimmy C @ 12:07 "yeah, that's the B7 Paul McCartney was looking for." Freaking hilarious.

  • oh and a great interview

  • justin can you or enyone here tell me which guitar shoul i buy as a begginer

    choose from theese:

    -fender bullet strat

    -cort g110

    -axl as750

-or if you have a suggestion of your own i am sorry if i misspeled anything

  • @thegamer98765 I started on a Fender Squier Bullet Strat, and I think you'd be happy with one too. They have deals now where you can get the guitar with an amp and strap for like $129.00 new. I wish I had kept my first guitar, but they sound great, and I still play Fenders. There is something about those necks that are real nice and comfortable, which is important when you're first starting out. Good Luck and enjoy! Dan

  • Amazing interview with a sensational player. Thanks for such a great insightful interview..has to be one of the best guitar interviews ever.

  • @musicmatty67 +1! What are you doing here Music Matty? get back to your hovel at the TDPRI! love, Tele Salivas

  • @JustinSandercoe Btw, I didn't mention properly what a treat an extended interview with a diamond in the rough like Jim is. It really is - thanks for taking the time.

  • @JustinSandercoe and @derfunkhaus Part II: I really like how that sound is like a vacant, rolling expanse. Like wind over a prairie during a bleak winter. Generally I prefer a Stratocaster's sound to Telecaster's (vice-versa with the unplugged sound of Telecoustic and Stratocoustic), but that tone swell sound is something I could really get into.

  • @JustinSandercoe and @derfunkhaus Thanks! Watching a bit further, I see Jim talks about his approach to the tone knob - he kind of sweeps his last three fingers by in a sort of caressing movement.

I play a Fender Telecoustic, so there isn't a tone knob in the same place. I run it thru Line 6 Spider IV with an FBV Express MKII footswitch, so maybe I can use the Line 6 software to program a sound that let's me use the expression pedal as tone instead of volume to get a similar effect.

  • how much would it cost to get my stratocaster re soldered? No noise when its hooked up to my amp...can someone answer? thanks...

  • Very interesting guy !!!

    Thanks for posting !!!

  • Awesome interview Justin! Thanks!!! :)

  • At 2:15 How does he get that sound? Is it just reverb and sustain?

  • @thescowlingschnauzer it's called a tone swell - we talks about it more later!

  • @thescowlingschnauzer it's called a tone swell - we talks about it more later!

  • @JustinSandercoe the tone swells always remind me of jeff becks arangement of some were over the rainbow and now of jim campilongo thanks for taking the time to do this interview and posting this video however it was proberbly a special moment for you.

  • @thescowlingschnauzer It's just out of frame but he's manipulating the tone knob (or is it the volume knob?) with his pinky finger. You can see that he's holding his pick with thumb and forefinger with the other fingers extended in sort of the "OK" sign, and the pinky finger can reach down to the knobs on the guitar.

  • What song at 11:10

  • Justin is the man!!!

  • Hey McFly!

  • i love the interview!

  • Fantastic work, Justin.

  • He was reading whore comics?

  • @gantman "Horror" comics.

  • Really inspiring. Love these interviews Justin. Great guitarists passing along wisdom, their experiencees and guitar expertise to the next generation of guitarist. Priceless. Many thanks.

  • thanks justin!

a magnificent source of inspiration i would have never discovered on my own!

(check out that fender's video on the left, how effortlessly and graciously he plays the first tune and how groovy's the second)

  • dude, you're talkin' to the best!!! What a service to the guitar community. thanks a ton

  • ''Whatta you wanna read?''

  • Great interview! Thanks for sharing!

  • god damn that telecaster is spotless. It fucking glows

  • a) amazing interview

    b) this man has really unique way of playing, I totally enjoyed everything he presented

    great job

  • 10:25 is that word venue or something like that?can anyone explain please?

  • @slashzakkkirk He says Venues.

  • @slashzakkkirk Venue, as in place to play, gig, etc. Warped tour is a venue for instance

  • @MakeItFamous

Yep. Venue is the word from which Avenue comes, meaning the road or way to the Venue.

  • English wouldn't be so bad if my teacher went "So what do you want to read?" xD

  • 21:43 he picks up cigarette but forgets to smoke and puts it down lol

  • @baksteen123 It appears as if the video was edited there, truthfully.

  • @baksteen123 Never mind, seen it, haha.

  • "Even if it's [the lesson] broccoli, it's covered by chocolate" Priceless

  • Hmmm, I was about to go to sleep 50 minutes ago...

    Great interview Justin -- fascinating.

  • Very interesting and entertaining interview. I'm definitely going to check out Jim Campilongo's music. I love his references to Roy Buchanan because I saw that same PBS special, "The Best Unknown Guitarist in the World" as a kid and became a big fan from that day on. I always think of him when I hear Dire Straits play Sultan's of Swing because no one could make the guitar cry and sing like Roy could.

  • two of my favorite people... great job!

  • annoying cars but great interview! :)

  • We are spoiled by all the videos Justin gives us lately. From the lick of the week to every intermediate foundation videos. It's great to have so many videos in a small amount of time :-) Thanks Justin!

  • Great stuff as usual!

  • That interview was perfect it was like two good friends having a chat, alot more personal and intimate unlike most interviews where the interviewer asks the same type of questions and doesnt know who they are talking. I am off to buy his album lol.

  • wow

  • Very interesting interview thanks for sharing =]

  • What a great and interesting person, I just loved listening to him. He is so free with his knowledge and experience. Thanks for introducing us to him.

  • best 50 minutes of my day
