You are absolutely right, but the sickest thing is that I just know that what you're describing is also a 'communications technique' tought by the Church of Scientology.
And their "communications technique" has been sucessful so far. Look at the John Sweeney interview where Sweeney loses it. Another problem with Tommy's condemnation of Rathbun accusing Miscavige (Scilon leader) of beating the very people Rathbun beat up, is that Marty Rathbun ADMITTED that he slapped around a lot of people, right in the newspaper article.

Among other loony tidbits unique to this cult, Tommy accuses former member Marty Rathbun of being a "whole track prison warden." That probably means that in Rathbun's confidential auditing file, he believes he was a prison warden throughout thousands of lifetimes.

The fact that people still fall for this sh!thouse "religion" gives testament to the infinity of human stupidity. As a family rule we try to never watch any movie release that has one of those certified scientology nutjobs starring in it, like e.g. Cruise, Travolta, Will Smith, Catherine Bell. When you look up which actors are members of this absurd cult more often than not you'll find they suck at acting anyway, so it's not even a loss to avoid them.

And their "communications technique" has been sucessful so far. Look at the John Sweeney interview where Sweeney loses it. Tommy pushed and pushed until Sweeney blew up and in the end, who looked bad (at first anyway)? Sweeney. But Scientology's methods are tiresome and predictable. For me the youtube video "Inside a cult - Scientology - A MUST WATCH!" (German with subtitles) goes some way to validating Sweenys reaction. He knows his argument won't persuade them, and he knows he can't allow himself to consider their argument - to even ponder it is out-ethics. So he distracts himself.
