I've always contended that the worst character in this game is Wallace.... Maybe Bartre? Plus Marcus sucks period compared to any of the three cavaliers in paladin form. Kent can wind up VERY good if the RNG gives him his probable speeds and skills.

Marcus is the best character in Hector Hard Mode, and Sain, Kent, and Lowen are all high tier. If you wonder why, go to Serenes forest and ask.

Sain is mediocre all around with high str, Kent is well balanced but has poor luck and mdef, Lowen is a tank but he hits weak and is kinda slow.

They're not bad pallies, but they're definitely not as good as other FEs have had it.

But yes, Marcus was a godsend in HHM.

i mix my teams with mages archers melees like erk,priscilla,rebecca,fiora,gu­y,legault,hector,lyn,heath,osw­in,serra,(the dark mage)

and i only use the low weapons iron-sword/lance/axe/bow fire/flux/light

it makes a little bit harder but i like no i love fire emblem  i think i spent over 500hours on fire emblem 7 and 8 its so sad i cant play fire emblem 6 ( i hate emu's they dont have the feeling like gba in the bed)

Marcus is a crappy sack of crap. Kent is great. Well-rounded stats, good HP and dodge. Also, Isadora is useful for the chapter you get her in, just as an extra unit with a free Silver Lance.

From the very beginning, he's great at softening up enemies so the others can pick up kills without too much risk (try having him Rescue a unit you're not gonna use so he doesn't double and kill everything). He's the best choice for running out to villages before they're destroyed. He's great at ferrying low Move units. He has full weapon triangle control. Ice affinity is excellent for him, and he has good supports. Go, Marcus.

@17Master No. Marcus is good for only two things: Getting to the village in Chapter 13x, and recruiting Priscilla. That's it. Kent is unpromoted, and if you promote him at lv 20, he'll be better then Marcus by far.

Isadora is a free Paladin in a diffucult chapter, and she's one of the three new units you get. It's hard not to use her, and she is decent for that one chapter.

Florina/Fiora/Heath/Farina ferry units ten times better then any mounted unit.

@littlekuribohimposte Florina and Fiora don't have the survivability Marcus does. Heath doesn't join until like 10+ chapters after you have Marcus. Farina, lol 20K Gold. Kent is good, and towards the end of the game, he will surpass Marcus, but until then, Marcus is very useful to have around and put to work. His early game usefulness more than makes up for the fact that the others are statistically stronger towards the end.

@littlekuribohimposte You know you can use Marcus without having him kill enemies, right? Take a unit you're not going to use, and have Marcus rescue that unit. This cuts his Speed in half, so he doesn't double attack (cept the Soldiers, becuase they suck that much). Now he can attack enemies and drop their HP pretty hard, and Eliwood, Rebecca or whoever you like can pick the pieces for easy Experience.

in Hard Mode, 9 times out of 10, Kent is the better cavalier to use, since he has good speed, skill and deense growths. And faster characters are better then powerful, slow characters. The ability to double, or (4x hit with a Brave weapon) is invaluable.

It's a proven fact that Marcus can in fact solo the game. Simply give him all the stat boosts along the way and that should cover up his low growths and bases.

You're judging a character by his growths and base stats alone and not by their overall usefulness. Marcus can use the entire weapon triangle, is mounted (Which allows him to rescue most units as well as move more than once after certain actions), and can use high level weapons right from the start. He also has a good support affinity.

Marcus may be the Jeigen of the game (Jeigen is a fire emblem archeotype), but at least he HAS a use. You get him early in the game, and at the time, his stats and weapons were pretty good, and he could be used as a last resort if needed. Isadora on the other hand... She has no redeeming traits except for coming with silver weapons. Her stat growths, base stats, and even supports aren't worth training her up throughout the game's campaign.
