These days all the museums are free in London which is nice of course.Especially if you want to be spontaneous and payday is a little way away.Hop the National Express to Victoria and eat cheaply in those Italian cafes which are so prolific all over the Smoke!!!
actually the best ww2 collections are in Russia, the Russians captured allot of german tanks, guns and planes but with little budget many of the tanks are left in open yards to rust :(
@mariahrose210 Wouldn't the British museum (or similar) be of more interest to you? After all it seems to me that what the IWM has is relatively modern. Or is it the military aspect which interests you?
In 1936 the museum acquired a permanent home which was previously the Bethlem Royal Hospital in Southwark. - The back of it was a massive ball room! When think about it you can't imagine it being a home to mental people- but once you're in and you look up you can just imagine it being prison like! Weird stuff ay!
I go like 9 times a year - I wish I lived in London!
In the past I have stayed in the Days Inn overnight which is diagonally opposite the museum before taking the Eurostar to Brussels when it departed from Waterloo.
Later on I discovered that it was built on a V2 im pact site!!Thought it was a strange coincidence.I gather that area and the Elephant and Castle round the corner was quite heavily bombed during the war.
I think I know it very well - but I should as I must have spent about ten days there in total over the past four years. I go every time I am in London!
The holocaust exhibition is very good. I think for me the highlight is the Blitz experience.
i went there yesterday, if you havent been already (your comment was posted a month ago) i thought it was great! im 14 and i loved it the smell is really quite nasty i actually had to cover my nose im my jumper for some time. its not too long and not scary its not dark or anything. at the end there is a model of a wounded soldier so if she doesnt like blood or something like that you can just warn her. hoped this helped
Sorry... mainly a response to the comment about 2.40...I work there and have a love of German aircraft and everyday people say nice messerschmitt. Its not.... ITS A FOCKE WULF 190!!!!!!!
Sorry not to be picky or anything but there isn't both. The Fw-190 is on the left (of the camera shot), P-51 Mustang in the middle and the Spitfire on the right. Above the T34 hangs an HE-163. Thanks for doing this film, I am the maker of The Imperial War Museum - a YouTube Tribute

@mariahrose210 It is not very realistic - I can't see them suddenly asking me!! I would like to work in research.

@alanheath3 I want to work in archival. Restoring old artifacts and such.

was there myself just this weekend....spent two days there and barely scratched the surface
highlights for me (from what i saw) was the replica of the Little Boy hiroshima bomb...I had no clue it was so tiny
and the holocaust exhibit....wasnt a pleasant experience by any means but i think everyone should see it as a warning to never let it happen again

what is the trenches exhibit like , i want to take my 7 yr old daughter there as she is learning about wwII at school?
leeadamkindell 2 years ago 3
No problem - it should not give bad dreams in my opinion. Others may think differently. The blitz experience could be frightening for youngsters.

@jerijerod14 Yeah. Tis a Focke Wulf alright. A Messerschmitt is completley different to the Focke Wulf, just can't describe differences.

I seem to remember paying for it a few years ago... in September 2000 unless I am mistaken.

Not a messerschmitt but a fw-190 is hanging on the ceiling
