That was a AWESOME video! I love that girls fan kata! She was so awesome. I miss Shaolin Kempo so much right now. I quit and joined MMA cause that's where all the real fighters go... RIIIGHT, they are fighters, that's all. But Kempo is martial arts, and not saying I didn't learn ALOT in MMA, especially BJJ (which I love) but Kempo is so much more fun and you learn YIN and Yang. MMA is just YANG! I miss this kind of beauty of an art form, not just hitting...

what is shaolin kempo? is it something like the original shaolin forms? or is it an american derivation of the original art?

i've been at a small school teaching this in switzerland, but the training was ridiculous. didn't see any basic form from shaolin, like xiaohongquan, etc...

I practice Shoalin kempo out in california, where my seagong is based. and we have linage from a temple in china, also have linage from the mitose clan, chow, and ed parker. its not primarily based anywhere, you can find it anywhere and everywhere, but its ties come from monks in china!

How is the black belt test a half an hour... At our kempo class black belt test takes 8 to 10 hours... And its all just like exciersising then when your super tired thats when you take the test which only takes like 1 hour... lol I dont think mine Kempo is the same though, this looks like one of thoughs copition based martial arts...

Im not trying to sound like mine is better, im just saying with all the sword dances and fan dances it dosent seem like they focus much on the actual, if someone grabbed you on the street... Maby its way more traditional than mine or she just likes to learn that part of her style, I dont know this style, so I cant judge. But it dosent sound very hard to get your black belt here.

you seem to be a martial artist yourself, try doing a run through of the forms you know every day before training, and you will notice an increased mastery of your art, as well as endurance and flexibility, fluidity and quickness. also, those that work on your breathing will increase the power of your strikes. and of course, you still have that other "i will beat you down and that's it" aspect of every art. forms are just a way to train and show off at the same time.

Forms arnt for showing off... Martial arts arnt meant for showing off... Plus we do do forms, its just not the main part of our training, we learn moves, do bag work, drills. Actually most a very important and often left out element of MA training is simply physical training, push ups, sit ups, other excersises. We do physical excersise for about half the class. Forms is training, I think of forms as a good way to train your mind, during forms, be in "fight mode" outside forms, be yourself =D

You wouldent have heard of it, Kempo in general isent very popular anyway and thats the way our grandmaster likes it. We are American, but its not like thoughs BS schools that are in it for the money... Trust me, im done with that part of my martial arts lol I did TKD for a while... Its a fun sport, but I wouldent try to use most the stuff in a real street fight like I would my Kempo and Karate stuff. My Kempo is just called Shaolin Kempo, basically Kung fu/Karate/Jujutsu and little boxing
