The Orb Shop probably didn't have a Mushroom Orb when Yoshi passed by it. The CPU's somehow magically know what it has without looking.

Also, I never thought it was possible to win the Koopa Kid sumo match unless you were playing Deluxe and had two players, since he's tuckered out in the second fight. There's, like, some stupid mashing method you have to employ, because as far as I know, tapping it as fast as possible doesn't work too well.

Actually Slim, Metal Mushrooms only block traps not character spaces. So if you were to land on a Piranha Plant space as metal, the metal effect will disapear and you would lose half your coins still.
