These guys definitely post good demos. But this is exhibit A why people do blackface mods on their 70s Fenders. The metallic overdrive almost makes the fillings in my teeth hurt...harsh.
Thank you for not doing the same old boring wanking blues scales over and over. Do you know how hard it is to find someone not doing the same old boring blues shit on you tube?
i have a 1967 ES-330 but it's black.. obvious that it's the original paint.. but according to gibson, they didn't make a black one. Serial number is 872377.. i also have the Fender Princeton Reverb amp. It was all given to me by my grandfather after he couldn't play anymore. Great video
If you can't grab an ES-330, the Epiphone Casino is the same thing. What is better about the Casino is they didn't thicken up the neck. I hate how Gibson has done that in recent years. The best thing about my '64 ES-330 is the neck. Great stuff. The earlier models meet the body at the 19th fret so it's a little shorter too.
I love my '64 es-330. Great video! You should do vids getting feedback from other amps. I get the most insane feedback with my mid-60's Vox, then I throw tremolo on it for the craziest sound. Such great guitars. Thanks for posting.
The modern ES 330 neck feels much more substantial than the '67 ES 330. This difference in feel, has to do as much with the width of the neck ( example: the modern ES 330 is .14 inch wider at the nut) as it does with the depth. The modern ES 330 is .037 inch (or 37 thousandths of an inch) thicker (fingerboard to the apex of the back of the neck) than the '67 ES 330.
With the increased depth and width at the nut the modern ES 330 feels larger and more substantial. If you look at the measurements below (find complete measurements on our website) you will see that the somewhere around the 8th fret the '67 ES 330 does have more depth than the modern ES 330.
Thanks for the chance to see/hear the 08 Gibson 330. Sounds good. I put a rise under bridge PU of my '66 330 a long time ago - really helps. How is the neck? is it heftier than your '67? That's what I'm after - a 330 with a bigger neck.
Wow, the 67' sounds so much better. Is it because the guitar has aged or did they just use better components back then? Will the 2008 model sound as good in 40 years time I wonder? I'd love to get my hands on that 67' with that amp, sounds bloody magnificent.
The '67 has synthetic bridge saddles, no pickup riser and a metal pickup cover. All things that change the sound some and all things that are easy to do to the modern ES-330. Late '60s Gibson ES-330s are still very affordable but I would get one soon before more people realize the spectacular performance of these instruments.
Yes, the cable was connected straight from the guitar to the amp. For this video we turned the gain down for the 2008 model. With the pickup riser, it has more output. In most of our videos we leave everything exactly the same, for the sake of comparison.
Jesus, I love P-90s.

The newer gibby's are all using the p100's right? or are the legit p90's?
Nice cutting immediately between instruments. Very helpful. Also you play stuff that lets you get a real sense of context. Great stuff.

I could have sworn that the riff at the end was from "Hymn" by Lilys. Anyway, aren't 330s completely hollow unlike 335s?

Yeah, no center block.. 330s & Casinos are the exact same guitar minus where the neck joins to the body..

Nice Video! Did you use the natural overdrive of the amp or you used any pedal? It sounds really cool!
