And if you do decide to go natural, remember we have SOOO many different textures. Even in your own hair you will have multiple textures. So, some products will work on someones hair and could "destroy" yours. Thats why I am a fan of the BC so you will learn. If your relaxed hair doesnt like a product or process it will just break or fall out. But ur natural hair is much stronger and will just tell you NO! example: my hair HATES sulfate, black gel, protein, and combs of any size.
That is the truth. No one believes me when I tell them I have straight hair mixed in with my other hair. I have to find stuff that works for All hair types to get my hair to what I feel is "right". trial and error is a good thing. It helps people learn about their own hair. can't be a bad thing in any way. {:o)
If you don't want to BC then you have to transition your hair. Thats hard work. You will need to keep it in braids, cornrows, curly rods... styles that protect place where your natural meets your perm. You let your hair grow until you are comfortable with the length of your natural hair. But in my opinion, doing a BC is a GREAT move. It will give you the chance to get to know your hair better, how to treat it, what to use, etc.
maybe try carols daughter i hear it was good for natural hair. im thinking about going natural my hair is permed now but i want to go natural with out the big chop?
Wow, you look absolutely beautiful. I am planning to go natural but am wearing microbraids right now to transition, however looking at all the beautiful women who have done the BC and look even more wonderful has inspired me to maybe take the plunge..so maybe I will have a vid posted of my BC one day..
girl take the plunge! You won't look back. My hair is about an inch now. I will post a vid later today to show you. But again, trust me... you won't regret it. Plus you hair will not grow the same during a transition as it will when its all natural.
take a look at "tracema" channel and find her BC. If she can cut off all that hair, anyone can. Check out her vid "going natural" then she has one of her BC too. :-) good luck!
thank you! and congrats to you! I have been loving it too. Still testing and trying different things to keep it soft and moist. Its grown about 3/4 an inch and is thick and much much healthier. Best of luck!
i prefer organic shampoos conditioners from health food stores i recently tried Aubrey honey suckle rose, very pleased, reg. beauty store stuff may have harmful ingredients chemicals which iam staying away, knowledge is power and once u know what the govt fda have been doing to products foodwater iam watching ingredients on whati use! its so awesome to see so many young black women coming into themselves accepting and lovinw who we are, black is beautiful no matter how we do are hair
it is so remarkable how black women are simutaneously being insoired to big chop off their relaxer, i just did it july 4th weekend, for spiritual growth i feel good about my decision my husband and i are use to my hair being long , he is not feeling this short curly afro look. i knew he wouldn't cuz i had cut it into a hair bob earlier this year. that is so good that ur husbnd supports u, i still will grow it out staying natural thouhg, yes it feels good to come back to self!
It looks good. Mine was shaved and mine has grown pretty good. It has grown enough for me to get some braids. Check out my natural hair videos, before and after. Tea tree oil, jojoba oil and shea butter is good for your hair. Also apple cider vinegar is good.
Wish you nothing but success on your natural hair journey.
your BC looks awesome on you! there isn't much more i can add other than what others have suggested ahead of me. best of luck to you on your new journey and have fun with it! peace & blessings!
I didn't transition either. You look fierce! Luvi the TWA. The products i have been using is vegetable glycerin/water/oil mix for moisture. Co-wash daily w/ EdenBodyworks Pepprmint Tea Trea conditioner and deepcondition w/ Kera Care. Hope you enjoy the natural process. Keep me posted.
You are the best! Thank you for all of your encouragement. Please add me as your friend! I don't know where to get all of these products you guys use.
Thanks to generous youtube sistas that have been a blessing sharing their knowledge, I can suggest places to look:
~ Whole Foods: veg glycerin, essential oils (love the lemon!), the conditioners I mentioned b4 (Aubrey Organics & EO brands), jojoba oil, etc.
~ Trader Joe's: I buy jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, aloe vera gel & groceries here. Sistas here like their shampoo & conditioner. Return anything - no receipt or reason required! I switched from GNC to TJs for my vitamins, too.
~ EssentialBalmsdotcom: Youtuber NaturalHairCare's product line. Luv her products & videos! BOGO free promo going on now w/ some free shipping.
~ QhemetBiologicsdotcom: Luv Burdock Root Butter
~ Vitamin, health food & grocery stores: coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, essential oils
~ Marshall's or TJMaxx: I found grape seed oil in the oils/sauces section of the food dept? It's great for hair & skin & for cooking. I checkd price & exp date & bought it.
~ Amazon site: Never ordered hair care items here since I found them in stores; but, they carry oils, veg glycerin, raw shea butter, conditioners. I Love this site since free shipping for >/= $25 of some products like books, DVD, CD ... don't know if this is true for hair care items.
~ eBay: sistas here have mentioned buying shea butter from highly-rated ebayers
~ OyinHandmade site: sistas rave abt their Honey Hemp Conditioner - I want to try this myself.
Shampoos: Diluted castile soap or Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo
Conditioners: Aubrey Organics "Honeysuckle Rose" Moisturizing Conditioner, EO conditioner
Hot Oil Treatment: Olive Oil, jojoba oil or Essential Balms (created & sold by youtuber naturalhaircare) "Head to Toe Liquid Balm with Jojoba" (HTLBJ)
Moisturizers: Essential Balms (HTLBJ or "Shea Hair & Scalp Butter"), Quemet Biologics Amla & Olive Oil or coconut oil
Moisturize: I moisturize daily with oil lotion or shea butter products & my homemade spritz (diluted mixture of conditioner, jojoba oil, vitamin e, aloe vera gel, essential oil (lemon or tea tree)). I only detangle when my hair is wet.
I use products that don't contain sulfates, parabens, mineral oil or non-vegetable glycerin.
Wash: Every 2-3 days (shampoo wash 1/week no-poo wash the other times)
Condition: I use cond. every wash. 1/month, I pre-shampoo or deep condition ...1) conditioner using heat cap or hood dryer, 2) hot oil treatment, 3) avocado/jojoba oil/coconut oil mixture (blend & strain first!) or (3) egg/mayo/olive oil mixture.
Beautiful sis!
