  • it is a TV

  • BPL ?

  • Hiya - search Youtube for 'Unidentified Radar Jamming on 7MHz'

That sounds like radar which is pulsed , yours doesn't sound pulsed but rather more like modulated hash.

I'de go walk-about with a portable SW RX and see if there is any change in signal strength of this hash noise nearby.

The video ' BPL - A Radio Amateur's Perspective - Nth Hobart' shows what BPL sounds like when its weak , and of course strong.

One thing is for sure , you can't live with that.

  • Hi - I live about 25km from the trial area in the BPL video and I have not heard such a signal on 80m - thank goodness.

As for thew other two vids fvrom Japan, the signal displayed there is different to what I recorded. But I dont think that what is in my vid is BPL interference.

BTW, the signal displayed here disappeared about 2 hours after I posted this vid.

  • I think you will find that to be a weak BPL (broadband over powerlines) signal.

These can present as hash at low signal levels , and with stronger ones you can hear the characteristic modem-like tones.

    Enjoy your new noise floor.

  • Hi... I dont think it is - the signal had QSB. Also, someone has hinted that this might be Chinese Over-The-Horizon Radar on a forum a short while ago.

    Horrible thing, whatever it is.
