Can someone please answer: is anti-aliasing actually supposed to affect textures too? In BF3 you can clearly see a difference on the ground texture and it makes me wonder if that's why my fps drops to half if I put even 2x multi-sample AA.
@KimboRamboFin AA is pretty intensive on a video card and is definitely the reason for the FPS drop. I would recomend upgrading to a video card that can handle it if you really want AA on.
I rebooted my computer and I face so many sofrtware to download such as CUDA which everyoe talks about like it is so great and it will make computer so fast... but I never find anybody explain in simple way... should I download all the software or not??? rebooting computer is such a freaking headache, I feel like I have to become a computer engineer in order to find out weather or not I should download CUDA
great info man i was wondering why im having FPS issues being that im running crossFire Dual 6990s and im running rage wiht full AA and i get a big drop in FPS but thats man i subs
Videocards are optimized for anti-aliasing and take a small hit from enabling it. Normally if you increase resolution resolution by 2x your fps would go down by 75% because you calculate 4x the pixels. Anti-aliasing gives 99% of the result of 2x resolution for a 12% slowdown.
So until we all game on 300 dpi displays we will need AA to make games look like Wall-E.
As long as you can see the pixels in the screen you can see jaggies. So until your screen has such a high dpi (like apple retina display) that you can't see the pixels will you be able to turn off anti-aliasing without noticing it.
K so I recently bought a GTX 460 1GB version and on a 1280/1024 resolution with AA I still don't have smoother edges I have another desktop with 1600/900 resolution but there is still no diference in the lines of the objects and again if I rase the AA and AF it's still the same. I tryed to reinstall drivers but it didn't work I really need help...
So by 2x or 8x does that mean how many passes or something it makes per second? Can someone clarify please? I understood everything he said but he didn't mention what the 2x and 8x and 16x means.
ok if anyone is wondering how to turn of anti aliasing follow these steps.........right click on epmty space on desktop>NVIDIA control panel>then theres going to be a picture moving and in the bottom theres going to be 3 options click the 2 one and click "take me there">thne on "anti aliasing- setting" put none> then on anti aliasing-transperacy" put OFF............and there you have it hope this helps :D
@xxDrain u think that's a lot? try 3840x2160 using the fairly new display port. couple that with the ability to hav up to 6 screens at once using 3 way SLI or eyefinity.
@3DGAMEMAN Can u please tell me a good spec for my new gaming PC, even if its an i7 but please give me advice of all the iX PC, And a Good Spec where i can run all the games at High
@sekailover Sync caps the Framerate to your monitor refresh rate. For example if your monitor run on 60hz it will cap the framerate at 60 fps. So you will never get higher. If you play games you never really need more than 30fps. With external programms you can cap the framerate to a number. In my case I always cap the fps on 30 because it feels more "realistic" if you ask me.
Joke ps you cud open a tv channel mad! You do great!
But I may need an advice, I use a projector 1024x768. Even if resolution is small I have a 2,5x1.8 screen on the wall. now I would like to see a wider image on my screen is there a program that converts for ex a 1600x1200 or bigger in 1024x768?
If I use a big resolution often I don't see the whole screen.
I play my ps3 on my HDTV its not really the best. Its still jagged and ugly. But i usually play my ps3 on my Gateway HD Display monitor with 1440 and that takes care of Aliasing. So its better to play ps3 on a monitor for me the hell with the HDTV.
So I guess I really don't need any AA since I game on a 22" 1080p HDTV. Then I should just the max AF setting and turn off AA. AA hogs up memory bandwidth anyways.
AA never does anything on any of my games, well beside drop about 10 fps from 0x to 8xaa. I never see any difference, even when about 3 inches away from the monitor, and I am only running 1440x900.
@Arcterion@Arcterion If a game is struggling due to graphics, then the first thing to go is the AA and AL, as we said below. It will improve framerates in most cases.

I can run The Original DOOM and Dosbox in 128X anti Aliasing without no slow down, That's as good as it gets with the hardware I have at the moment which is onboard
If you have a small screen, let's say 19" and you run it at 1440x900 it will look better than using 1440x900 on a 22" monitor, that's because the pixels have to become bigger to cover the whole screen (PPI)
A 22" 1920x1080 monitor will look better than a 24" 1920x1080 monitor, not by much but it will.
It really isn't that complicated. ANTI-ALIASING removes the jagged edges. That's it. individuals asking wether AA should be enabled or disable ultimatley depends on their computer system. Higher Res.. meaning 1680*1050 and above, should not have any need for AA. lower res, 1380*780 (my big screen 720p TV) and below... max that AA, as long as your PC can handle it. if it can't... shell out a couple buck and get a better computer... DAMNNNNNN
thank you so much i got it now finally

@steffen54321 O.k. I suppose I could say I run in 1920 x 1080 but that's only when I'm on my TV but even that still inferior :(

@steffen54321
I can run The Original DOOM and Dosbox in 128X anti Aliasing without no slow down, That's as good as it gets with the hardware I have at the moment which is onboard

Actually i know for a fact this
If you have a small screen, let's say 19" and you run it at 1440x900 it will look better than using 1440x900 on a 22" monitor, that's because the pixels have to become bigger to cover the whole screen (PPI)

DAMNNNNNN

my opinion always keep it disabled (off)
