  • car studio is great, imho. The audio is undisturbed and if that gives you more time to do what you love (or what you have to do) - all the better! We like stress-free video-makers. Thumbs up :)

  • FILM RIOT!!!!!! :D

  • The show is not too long at all. Look at how many people waste 30 mins watching some mindless TV show (many hours some times). 20 mins is nothing for good DIY and instructional content. I'm a professional photographer and your video instruction has helped me quite a bit as many clients are asking things like weddings, graduations,, etc to be filmed. Your humble willingness to help others for free is very generous and refreshing. Keep up the good work. - Tom

  • Do what you enjoy man! Don't read these questions unless *you feel* there necessary. The Car studio is classic, so keep it! BTW thanks for the shout out! I'm going for another next week.

  • U need man room.

  • No not to long.

  • Don't quit on us now :-)

  • First of all, love the show. But in this video you talked about being a partner. Who are you partnered with and how would you go about partnering with someone?

  • its funny, i was running this in the background working on something when he mentioned it

  • the length is fine as long as the quality is good

  • Hey, keep the car and the long videos just, please keep talking about making films

  • I've been watching the Eve Hazleton lighting tuts lately and was surprised to hear that Hal' worklights use the same bulb as most soft-box lights. So, I was curious, how about making a DIY removable soft-box? Or is there any good place where I can find that out myself?

  • yh making it short

  • I just got my canon t3i and my current computer can't handle the footage, what type of computer would you recommend?

  • I second the time lapse slider. I have a glide track and I have been looking at ways to automate it. Would love to see your take on it.

  • Anyway you could show how to make a motorized slider for a time lapse?? Im building your camera jib and the pvc stabilizer and the photography forum I belong to loved your ideas for those so I was thinking a motorized slider so the camera will move along a rail would be cool, then we could do moving time lapses.

  • Really good video, a lot of good info you give out and responds to fans. BEST CHANNEL FOR HOME FILMMAKERS :)

  • I have no idea how I found you but glad I did.

And the car thing is fine. This is called the 'Frugal Filmmaker' not Warner Brothers.

  • Scott, check out Vincent's tutorial on making a Mic Blimp with pencil cups from Dollar Tree. It looks excellent.

  • I think a twilight zone series for youtube has huge potential

  • @calypsopainting Already been done. It's called BlackBoxTV (search for it) and it's a pretty good show. They also use a great marketing technique by employing YouTube celebrities as actors.

  • do you prefer fixed focus cameras?or auto focus cameras?or manual focus cameras? for video making

  • @humxa24 Manual features please.

  • I was wondering how long you've been a Partner and how you got there?

  • @josephjbean It's been around six months for me. I'll detail the process I used in a full FF episode coming in February (my two year mark).

  • It's a little long. (Not in a bad way.)

I enjoyed it, really good information.

I'd break it into 2 segments.

It might make it easier on you..

The car studio is good. I like it...Good Job.

  • What camera did you say you were using?

  • IMHO...LENGTH: wow, it's long, but then there's lots of good info! CAR: thought it was cheesy at first, but after your explanation, makes TOTAL sense! BTW...posting a video response. I've credited you in the description as you helped me so much. I hope you like it. :)

  • breaking it down into sections would be nice

  • My only questions is... how did you get it to post so long? I can only down load 15 mins... Thanks always like your videos!!

  • @TardProductions Partnership has its privileges! Actually, anyone can unlock the upload time cap if you're willing to give YouTube your cell number. Look for the option on your upload screen.

  • @thefrugalfilmmaker Thank you, I just channged it on my new acct. Now I just need to transfer all my fav accts to that one!...Whew!

  • You have 1335 members on you facebook page. two more it's going to be 1337 :)

  • Regarding the ROTC comment. Scratch that. First you don't want real guns on your set. Real guns can shoot REAL bullets and REALLY kill people. The first rule of weapons handling is never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to shoot. Most firearms accidents come because the involved throught the firearm was unloaded when it was not.

Second, ROTC kids don't generally know a whole lot about weapons handling. It takes some time in combat training before they come close to proficiency.

  • @LoneWolfUSMC All good points. Thanks!

  • I understand what you are saying. There is a tradeoff in quantity vs. quality. I can't do as many videos as I would like to because I prefer to keep them visually appealing. As you know it takes time to stup, edit, color grade, etc. If this is all you are able to do at the time, your video views will tell you if it's working or not.

  • I like this long format much better that a bunch of short vids. If I get 5 vids a week from a youtuber, chances are I will miss a few.

  • the show lengths are fine :)

  • I don't mind the long format. If I can't finish watching, I can always come back-- or skip ahead for that matter. Where else can a guy be a guy more than in his own car? Thumbs up on the car. Remember ROTC is a school house/recruiting tool for the military. I'm prior service and I've experienced ROTC for a while. Not only do they not have access to weapons (they're controlled gov't property, locked in an arms room or on loan from the reserves or local military base)...

  • (CONT'D) but they only know what they've learned in school. They've never served in the real military, which is night and day from a college campus program.

  • @ACEntertainment2011 I'm sure you're right. Thanks for the input.

  • I like how long it is. Keep up the good work.

  • you kick ass dude. would love to do effects for u if you ever need some done

  • I don't mind the length of the videos I would say what ever your willing to put up is much appreciated by me. You have an awesome voice to listen to and I fully support the use of the car except for the rain part, that was a bit challenging.

oh and kudos on the green screen paint find that is pretty kool.

  • i don't mind the length, you're doing a good job.

  • This is great content. Keep the durations long. YouTube needs more lengthy shows. Great work.

  • I would say yes it is too long. But thanks for your hard work!

  • I generally don't sit here staring at your face for the whole video =P I think it's an alright length since you're basically just talking. I'm usually tabbed out playing a game or searching around facebook just listening, so the car studio is perfect.

  • Hey I dont have a facebook so how can I send you the pictures of my PVC rig and the write up???

  • yes make them shorter

  • Weekly Recap is a presentation similar to a staff meeting: goal is to inform/update but it is a process.. Length depends on what took place: more events equals more info to present. Your show(s) are about film-making: Not just focusing on the actual end result/output of a good watchable video. You share the tasks, tools, and process details needed to achieve a good video. Very "process oriented" which is what video making is from behind the lens. Watching ReCap this week was time well spent IMHO

  • I think the car makes a great place to do your recap videos, the sound is good and you don't have to worry about extraneous noises. Length? I just don’t watch videos longer than 10 minutes; don't have the patience to sit that long on one video HOWEVER, this video moved right along, I guess it was of all the different subjects. I watched the entire video, go figure :-) As you mentioned, a person could let it run in the background if wanted, it’s not like you’re going to miss any action :-)

  • I would strongly recommend against EVER using real firearms for a no/low budget production without a qualified professional armorer. There's way too much risk of extra complications if the police need to check out your shoot, and the worst case scenario is unthinkable. There's not even much need these days- Airsoft replicas are so good these days it seems unnecessary.

  • @Blatherous You're absolutely right and the risk of someone getting hurt or killed is very scary and not worth the authenticity of a real gun on set. Go Airsoft! Thanks for the passionate response.

  • i think its a great length i kinda like to open alot of the links your talking about as you explain them in new tabs.

  • I just like listening to you talk! haha .. not being creepy, you just have a soothing voice.

ehh I should just stop talking...

  • I think the length is fine, whatever it is. Maybe somebody won't like some part of it and others will love it, but that's normal. I would only ask, if anything, for something like a "section divider", I mean, you have this first "answering your questions" section and then the "links and stuff" sections, so to speak. So, maybe, five seconds of a black screen with "links sections" (or so) written on it, would help A LOT when "recapping", otherwise there's no reference for that. Thank you!

  • Make it as long as there is content. :)

  • I don't think the length matters, as long as you are giving useful information. I love your show and think you do a great job!

  • it's fine really long though

  • you should make this a podcast on itunes

  • I like it 10 minutes long

  • I like the show's length. I would rather be more than informed.

  • Ya uploading it daily like 3-4 min its good idea

  • Heck no! I wan't to see longer episodes. Well, maybe not - 20 minutes is great.

  • Could I record ADR in the car

  • @pcookieproductions Yeah! Watch his first episode a few weeks back, he mentioned it there.

  • Hey thanks for reading my comment out, really glad you agreed with what I wrote. I dont think the show is too long either, your giving us great FREE content, and if people dont want to watch, they dont have to, just my opinion.

  • Watched it all the way through! Wish it could be longer!

  • Can't get the PVC plugs here in the UK at all. Will have to import a barrow load. The Car Stusio is fine... stay with it! The NASCAR idea seems OK but would you look good with a "GO DADDY" logo?

  • @KenG1ITV If Go Daddy paid me to wear their t-shirt, I would totally do it!

  • Can you wear shades over your glasses. Thanks.

  • I dont't mind of the time of the video, I am a filmmaker at heart and a fan

  • The only reason its too long is when subscribed to so many, the shorter ones are easier to cover ground. Very very very few videos do I have the attention span on that go 15 to 20 minutes, and those are usually high energy videos. Information, advice and tutorial videos I try and make time for them.

If you do a Movie Series - 5 to 10 to 15 minute segments would be great. This is just my view however. Go with whatever the majority says and you feel up to.

  • Bro the car rocks. You rock. Keep the car show.

    Don't ever go away.

  • @blondegaijin Hey thanks!

  • it's not too long. It's fine

P.S. like you said, I treated this like a podcast and did other stuff while I listened to it (it was still entertaining and informative though)

  • Whoa it's Dave from Knoptop!

  • It is too long. I know because I didn't want to watch it....Because it was too long.

  • you need setup like nascar and have ads on all those car interior spots. :)

  • I just posted a pic of my shoulder rig that i built got some really good ideas from you and knoptop so that a look on your facebook page and tell me what you think in your next video please.

  • didn't think it was too long, it was filled with informative info and tips! :)

  • as a VFX artist, it is best to cut first, then add visual effects, then color grade everything together.

  • as always love your videos and appreciate you

  • I prefer long episodes myself as it allows for easier access to your other videos.
