  • does actually like never gonna give you up and dont carethat it is a HUGE intenet meme like this comment if you do

  • god earthbound is such a fucking awesome game way better then call of duty and halo and all other boring repetitve games in todays consoles in my personal opinion you just dont see much creativity and heart like earthbound anymore :(

  • @heerogunkenobi Halo actually has a good story line, not as emotional as Earthbound of course, but these lame war storied based games like COD get boring real easy, and lack charm like Earthbound had.

  • @vivelecorn right you are

  • earthbounds awsome. nuff said

  • thanks roo, you just told me that Crono Trigger rick rolled us, lousy hipster robo

  • I stared the review which i have already seen it and the history 3 times, and i started watching this for something small at the begging of the first part but i kept watching and watched them all again

  • I cried out loud when I completed Earthbound.

  • Why must the cheapest one on eBay be $70.00?

  • I really wanna play Earthbound, but I can never get into RPGs. I tried, and made it to Giant's step, but the slow pace made me lose interest, and I found the battle scenes boring. Not to mention, I have this hyper-OCD in RPGs, where I absolutely NEED the best equipment at all times, even if it become redundant shortly after.

  • can you review mother 3

  • although... the fanfare in actraiser.... is something you can't reproduce at random...

  • that's so unfair if you tell me, you know how similar music progressions can be as long as chords and small sections of melodies go if you know a even a tiny bit of the art of composing

  • 1:44 no, no that's just a sick excuse, those melodies are simple enough to be found everywhere, c'mon

  • @LinguistTroubadour Yes, the melodies are only somewhat similar, but in a lot of cases, EarthBound uses samples directly lifted from other sources, and sampling has somewhat... iffy legality.

Now, I don't think this is even remotely a big enough deal that Nintendo need be worried about litigation, but hey.

  • @1:45 Lol, sounds more like the Yoshi's Island theme to me!

  • 3:41 what the name of the song

  • @key099able Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up

  • just bought this game off e-bay and wow.....it's set at a firm 50 or MORE just for the loose cart now a days.....and that's with NOTHING else included..no book, or box or anything..... crazy

  • @medicwheat69 who did you buy it from for 50 dollars the cheapist i have ever seen is 100 or more for just the game

  • Maybe you should do a review about Alundra. It's for the Playstation (1), but it is a really good 16-bit JRPG. Think of Zelda, only darker and more complex.

  • giygas is you.

    pokey is the evil influencer.

play the game. read the text.

to beat "the game" you had to show love to your inner spiritual self. when you confront giygas for the first time who's immediatley there? talking about the apple of enlightment? the new understanding? the only time you had to fight giygas is when pokey was influencing giygas (your inner self) and when he stood side by side with giygas to show in that battle how much they were the same "enemy".

    can't say more

  • thanks for Rick Rollin' us!

  • Terrific Job man, really glad I stumbled upon your work. I'm officially a fan.

  • Roo this review was amazing. You think since you reviewed this as one of your favorite SNES games of all time, you think you could do Chrono Trigger too?

  • Earthbound, just one of those games that you WILL enjoy; I'm really surprised that Nintendo doesn't make this mainstream, they let Kid Icarus return COMPLETLY MODELED from SSBB, and it has 2 extremly popular sticking points "RPG" and "ZOMBIES"

Seriously, the zombies, best part of the game in my opinion It's when you get Jeff, a badass member of the team and just when you thought Apple Kid's inventions couldn't get sillier, Zombie Paper! All that with that eerie music and setting... pure GOLD

  • Thanks to your great review and history of Earthbound i fell in love with the game. I never heard of ness outside of the ssb series until i watched this. Found the rom and i love the game so far. Be proud your video is making new Earthbound fans. Be proud to be a Earthbound fan. Most importantly enjoy the game.

  • awesome review!

  • if theres such a problem with the music why dont they just do a simple half-note change to it :/

  • Im glad i wasnt the only one who thought of that chrono trigger robo thing when i played it

  • i was too little to play earthbound when my family still owned an snes. but i later found out about it and just had to to download it on an emulator and try it for myself. and even with all the high-tech games and first person shooters that try to "innovate" the market we have now, i still consider earthbound one of my favorite games of all time.

it also makes me wonder "what happened to final boss battles and just boss battles in general? what happened to simple gameplay, turn-based rpgs?"

  • hey roo can you do a review for mother 3 sometime because i feel that it was superior (not by much) to mother 2 aka earthbound for a few reasons i wont say what because of spoilers

  • Comment removed

  • GREATEST REVIEW OF ALL TIME.i love this game and my friend just thinks im weird by liking this game. But just 1 complaint about earthbound. why cant the 8 melodies of earthbound be as epic as the 8 melodies from ,other 1. mother 1's 8 melodies had lyrics!! (well. in the commercial at least).Fav. RPG of all time and brought me into rpg's in the 1st place. i still use emulation. but dont have the $ for earthbound AND a snes. plus im a kid and my mom would think im weird payin $100 for a game.

  • I knew I heard Robo´s theme somewhere.

  • 3:29 - 3:44

    LMAO

  • @tarkeke so.... was it technicly out of it's time like many inventions?

  • where can I find the song that was in your credits? whats the name of it? Great review btw!

  • Robo's theme doesn't sound like Never gonna give you up but another Rick Astin song 'Together forever'.

  • I don't want to illegally pirate the game, but is there a way to get the game for free?

  • @DrN0mN0mN0m you can only get it free through roms. since this game isnt being made any more theres nothing wrong with using roms with it because the company who made the game cannot profit from something that they are no longer making (this goes for all games that are no longer being made).

  • @DrN0mN0mN0m it is legal to play it on rom. as nintendo ain't doing anything at all to publish it, don't feel bad about it rofl

  • Is EarthBound for SNES English?

And is Mother 1+2 in English for any system?

  • @zoso34ro you should check out his earthbound history videos, he answers your questions in those vids

  • DAmnit! i got rickrolled twice by you in 1 hr lol

  • Chrono trigger rickrolled you!!!! AHAHAHA really, i almost cried because of that XD

    Love your reviews :D

  • Finished it for the second time today.. and i actually cried during the final battle and the ending. I think its one of the best games ever made. purely for its originality , concept and music. Its definitely one my favorite RPG of all time. No other RPG till now has made it to that status since i played it.. though they got close.. Earthbound remains my favorite.

  • Robo's Theme sounds more like "Material Girl" to me

  • So just beat the game today and I admit I cried, this game has easily climbed to my top 5 favorite rpg's but I never knew about the backstory or all the legal issues, thanks roo for showing me that!:D

  • Was Earthbound released in Europe?

  • THERE'S NO EARTHBOUND ON EUROPE!!!! WHAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Explodingxbox it does

  • I think animal crossing has a K.K. Slider song that sounds like Johnny B. Good

  • This is awesome dude, You'll get the views you deserve

  • And the cultural references being another factor is another things that irks me. But hey, in this lawsuit happy world, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo got sued for using them. It's really sad. EarthBound/Mother fans tend to get screwed over more than most other fanbases. Maybe that's what helps make us such a dedicated group. Apart from it being one of the best game series ever, of course.

  • I always thought the whole thing with Nintendo holding back on the Virtual Console re-release for fear of legal retribution was so irritating. I mean, really, who cares? Why is it such a huge issue? It's just samples of old songs, and like you said, it's not like a direct copy, mostly just original music inspired by those songs. Are the record companies gonna go "Oh, you used music based on our songs in your game, LAWSUIT BITCHES!" Well actually, yes, seeing as how greedy big record labels are.

  • Iv just started plaing the game thanks to your previous review,I just want to say thank you sooomuch for the spoiler system you implimented as it means i was still able to watch ur review without having the story ruined for me, ohh and congratulations on getting on channel awsome, your definetly good enough to be there, good luck for your future reviews.

  • OMG ``COSTA DEL SOL´´!!!!! EPIC FF7 MOMENT WUAAAAA...yea....

  • earthbound> FF

    i dislike FF alot

  • 2:00 Why does Back to the Future follow me EVERYWHERE!?! EarthBound FTW! Ness4Life! PSI Awesome!

  • Autosubbed

  • Awesomeness

  • All I can say is that Earthbound is still my favorite all time game

  • what is that music track called 1:06 i mean the real one not the cheer version

  • @andrmar94 "Eight Melodies" (not to be confused with Mother 1's "Eight Melodies"), though the melody was also used in "Smiles and Tears"

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf So... i just want to make this perfectly clear, The Mother series is the Evil Dead Trilogy of Video Games.

  • Robo Rolled!!!1! Noooooo!!!

  • i knew i heard the elec theme before i played the game

  • PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE!!!...BACK THE THE FUTURE!!!...great movies...

  • its too bad they wont make a mother 4, i think they should but not for the fans or just to revive a old game, but there is so much in the story that could be added to make more sense or just find a better way to end it. like explain where gigue (or however you spell his name) went from the first game. Or how porkey got evil. or heck anything that raps up a game with no more secrets or things to figure out.

  • NOOOOO NOT CHRONO TRIGGER

  • great great review of the best game ever made. The only thing you left out was the infamous "fetus" theory about giygas. I KNOW ITS FAKE. but it is a very interesting myth that need to be recognized because it douse have a great reflection of the constant evil overtone that is. the final battle with giygas.

  • i do love Earthbound but Mother 3 i though was the deepest maybe you can do a reveiw on that

  • the furuki baseball cheer is awesome beyond belief.

  • At 2:40, I knew you were going to Rick Roll me. And it didn't happen for another minute.

  • I doubt music companies would care about some random game on the VC. Let alone one that was released here 15 years ago.

  • For the song comparisons, I'm surprised you didn't bring up several of K.K.'s songs in Animal Crossing, especially Rockin' K.K. It's sound a lot like "Franky" in EarthBound!

  • Robo with Rick Roll O_O............D: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • awesome review...funny and informational; keep making vids...ill keep watching

  • You know Nintendo is becoming so foolish always doudging the issues. I mean they have the step up less breaking Wii's than 360's and Playstation infact Nintendo will fix it's main issue for free if you send it to them. However their ignorance of the early adult late teen market will hurt them. Earthbound is more proof of this.

  • It's a good game I beat it, I don't understand why people are so huge on it. I don't play many RPG's til the end but I did beat this. Btw, I heard something to the effect that the earthbound games will be released in America now finally on DS I believe. However nothing offical on Nintendo's site that I can see.

  • so if i'm correct Chrono Trigger has sorta been rick rolling people?

  • Just curious, what are your thoughts on the annoying ass Pokey Minch, Roo?

  • lol i always knew that robos theme sounded fimular

  • "Its a shame This Series is treated like shittaki mushrooms by nintendo"

    -PsiPaula4

  • we should link this to nintendo

  • also you should've point out the differences from the japanese version like ness being naked in magicant and the coffe being beer.

  • ...3:29 and 3:37...I have officially lost all respect for Robo now... and I liked him. HE was cool...now he's rick roll... :(

  • omg the second robos theme played i knew what was coming, i ROFLed

  • Whem I saw the rick roll, I just died laughing. Awesome!

  • I wrote a long comment about how the graphics are actually really good for the time and how they aged perfectly compared to predecessors and followers,,, but it got erased.... All I have to say is that FF7 doesn't look this good when you try to go back and play it. I was glad that they didn't release the N64 Mother 3 because the blockiness doesn't age well at all. The GBA and SNES iterations look great.

  • Hmmm, I wouldn't say the graphics are bad. In fact I think the game has aged incredibly well. The art style is tremendous and I never get that pixely or blocky feeling looking at it when I play the game. In fact, seeing clips from the n64 version makes me glad that they didn't release it in lieu of a GBA version. I can easily go back and play this game but if I tried to play FF7 I might have to kill my self from having to look at the legos on screen.

  • nintendo must hate earthbound alot 0_0

  • Well, I wouldn't say that. But they do seem apathetic, which is almost as bad.

  • Comment removed

  • @theKidHedge correction NOA is the one that more or less hates earthbound but whatever thier is only 1 or 2 thing that they would have to mix up that bed and breakfast thing because of the recent itunes having the beatles on thier thing but other wise the rest is fine oh NOA can you just give us a break

  • @theKidHedge

Reggie himself claims to be a Mother fan, but...

  • @theKidHedge they probably hate it because of it's commercial failure, it sold like shit..in a bad way outside of japan..for some weird reason it didn't appeal to hardly anyone lol

  • @theKidHedge true

  • What was the name of that rap at the end of the video?

  • "Urfbownd" by Sephy

  • "there is no reset button"

    *looks at reset button*

    "NOOOOO!!!!"

  • Like I said before in some other video I think that Nintendo is just holding out on these games until the last second when they're going down on the charts, Reggie even said that they were "going to launch them into the appropriate market." So all we can do is pray and sing the Eight Melodies

  • I thought i was the only one who picked up on the megaman-elecman stage / journey thing when I was a kid...

  • For the music part i'm surprised you didn't do any doom music. Lol

  • The history and review were both amazing. Thank you for this. I'm a huge Earthbound fan and there were things I didn't even know about in this review. I particularly like the 8 melodies baseball cheer and song comparisons. 5/5

  • I just watched all six Mother videos in this collection. Thank you for the hard work you obviously put into this. My only critique is that the humor is a little low-key. I know this is the internet and all, but still :)

  • i <3 Earthbound

  • Great review :) I remember during one of my playthroughs I got two sword of kings.

  • fuuuuuuuuu

  • @wingedyoshi I finally got one in my first playthrough, and the very next battle, I got a second one.

  • I think that Nintendo is actually looking for the right moment to re-release EarthBound and Mother on the VC (probably for the end of the Wii life because Itoi likes to release the EarthBound series always near the end of the consoles life

1.- Mother (1989- planned 1991 USA release in that yar Arrived the SNES)

2.- EarthBound (1994-1995 USA, in 1996 it arrived the N64)

3.- Mother 3 (2006, the GBA was already dead an this was it's last treasure (the best))

And by the way thanks for the EB videos.

  • Itoi didn't release Mother 2 & 3 that late on purpose.

Mother 2 had a lot of programming issues and was almost cancelled, until Iwata came in and helped Itoi with his amazing programming skills.

Mother 3 was in development for the N64DD but the system was delayed to the point they felt it would be better to release it on Cart, then they had more programming issues and by that time, the DD was a failure to sell. Mother 3 came late on the GBA because development started late.

  • Again, it was Iwata who saved Mother 3. Had he not been President of NLC, and a close friend of Itoi, and a Mother fan, we probably wouldn't have got Mother 3 because even in Japan, the GBA was dead. Why didn't they do it for the DS? Because the DS wasn't out yet and to shift production to that system could have been another problem so they figured to stick with GBA.

We all should thank Iwata for all he's done for Mother.

  • Brilliant job done for a brilliant game. Keep it up.

  • Truely one of the greatest RPGs ever.

  • One thing that I always loved about Earthbound and the Mother series in general was it's unique use of graphics in a time when realistic ones were the desired norm. They always reminded me of a storybook that a mother might read to her child, further cementing why I cannot listen to some of the series' catalog of songs without weeping

  • @stupidstuffx I fully agree with you on that.

  • @stupidstuffx I like the contrast between the humor and the disturbing like gyigas.

  • :D definitely my favorite RPG

  • Well freaking done... My goodness...

  • Epic review was epic.
