My 8 month old daughter is BF, and from what I have observed is that all the people that are skeptical, judgmental, and even disturbed by me breastfeeding my daughter are the ones who chose not to or could not BF. Why is this an issue? People should be able to breastfeed as long as the kid is ok and doesn't want to stop, there really is no problem. I don't see the issue. Breast feeding is natural and is found in all mammals in the world. Something like this shouldn't be sexualized or judged. The mother can breast feed for however damn long she and the child are comfortable with it. I know I fully intend on doing so with my future children. Public and private. The AAP recommends at least 1 year, while the WHO recommends at least 2 years. It's also recommended that if possible, you breastfeed adopted babies too. These are special cases, the worldwide average age of weaning is 4. Most kids I've heard of wean ALOT sooner though.

Who cares how long they breastfeed? Why does it matter to any of you? The WHO (world health organization) recommends breastfeeding for the first 3 years and for how long is comfortable for mother and child. The natural weaning age of a child is between 2 and 4. In the US breasts are too sexialized. They function to nourish children. In this country less than 13% of women breastfeed and not surprising we have the unhealthiest people and record obesity rates, because of that low number.

Yeah, I'd say 2 - 2 1/2 years would be my absolute limit. Age 4 is just...no way. As soon as that kid Tristan and his mom popped up on screen I instinctively shook my head. If your child knows how to use the bathroom, they are too old to be breastfed. Give them a good start and then give them encouragement to nurture themselves. Do not stifle their independence for your own personal need to feel validation. Extended breastfeeding cripples the fathers ability to bond with their offspring, particularly their sons.
My daughter has been a seriously ill child, and nursing got her through many long, painful hospitalizations. Thank God I didn't wean her when she started using the potty. I see your point, but her dad has his own ways of connecting with her that have nothing to do with my breastfeeding her. Perhaps we found a balance that the parent of the nursing 8 year old can't seem to find. Just my opinion but that child doesn't seem quite healthy, emotionally. But who am I to say?
Oh..btw she weaned on her own as soon as she had an improvement in her health status, around the age of 3 1/2. She is now 11 and if I mention anything about nursing, which she remembers, she will say nursing made some things not hurt as much. So no regrets here. She's as independent as they come! LOL My own mom, a new mom in the 60's, was not helped to nurse and was told she needed to give bottles. When she saw the benefits my kids received, she wished she had been empowered to nurse.

I don't see the issue. Breast feeding is natural and is found in all mammals in the world. Something like this shouldn't be sexualized or judged. The mother can breast feed for however damn long she and the child are comfortable with it. I know I fully intend on doing so with my future children. Public and private. I think women should breastfeed as long as they damn well please. I was breastfed by my mom and two other women. My mom had physical problems so she had a hard time. I am thankful to God that i had two other women to breastfeed from. it is so beautiful.

The AAP recommends at least 1 year, while the WHO recommends at least 2 years. It's also recommended that if possible, you breastfeed adopted babies too. These are special cases, the worldwide average age of weaning is 4. Most kids I've heard of wean ALOT sooner though.

Who cares how long they breastfeed? Why does it matter to any of you? The WHO (world health organization) recommends breastfeeding for the first 3 years and for how long is comfortable for mother and child. The natural weaning age of a child is between 2 and 4. In the US breasts are too sexialized. They function to nourish children. In this country less than 13% of women breastfeed and not surprising we have the unhealthiest people and record obesity rates, because of that low number.

Yeah, I'd say 2 - 2 1/2 years would be my absolute limit. Age 4 is just...no way. As soon as that kid Tristan and his mom popped up on screen I instinctively shook my head. If your child knows how to use the bathroom, they are too old to be breastfed. Give them a good start and then give them encouragement to nurture themselves. Do not stifle their independence for your own personal need to feel validation. Extended breastfeeding cripples the fathers ability to bond with their offspring, particularly their sons.

My daughter has been a seriously ill child, and nursing got her through many long, painful hospitalizations. Thank God I didn't wean her when she started using the potty. I see your point, but her dad has his own ways of connecting with her that have nothing to do with my breastfeeding her. Perhaps we found a balance that the parent of the nursing 8 year old can't seem to find. Just my opinion but that child doesn't seem quite healthy, emotionally. But who am I to say?

Oh..btw she weaned on her own as soon as she had an improvement in her health status, around the age of 3 1/2. She is now 11 and if I mention anything about nursing, which she remembers, she will say nursing made some things not hurt as much. So no regrets here. She's as independent as they come! LOL My own mom, a new mom in the 60's, was not helped to nurse and was told she needed to give bottles. When she saw the benefits my kids received, she wished she had been empowered to nurse.

I am a 42 year old woman. I was breastfed till I was two and I breastfed my four children till they were around two.I breastfed readily in public and never had to expose my breasts while doing so. Clearly I am a huge advocate for breastfeeding, that said I think it is selfish and indulgent to force the world to be involved in your business. Sex is natural and beautiful, should we all copulate in public.
Furthermore it is abusive to force your child to be so dependent on you at 8 years old.

I breastfeed my kids til they are 2, they start the weaning process before there second birthday so by the time theyre 2 they are weaned completely. If someone chooses to go longer than that I do not shun light on them or treat them differently because that is THERE personal choice and anyone that makes them feel weird about that is just jelous that THEY cannot breastfeed themselves! Thats why God gave women boobs people, not for mens entertainment but for children so get over it!.
