I've seen videos of the Indian Ocean tsunami before hand, as the sea drewback wayyyy away from the beach, like a mile or so....at that point I would run. The toursits on the beach had no clue, please, people, read a book.

This is actually a good question. I watched a tsunami documentary on you tube this weekend. I thought that the one tell tale sign of an approaching tsunami would be the water receding from the shore. The doc. said that this only happens sometimes. On the east of some islands the water receded and then rushed back and on the west the water just rushed in without warning. I think the waves hit the west side of the islands without warning only because they hit the other parts first, then they bent around and hit the other sides but I don't know for sure.

usually the first wave of a tsunami is called a "warning wave" and sometimes even goes unnoticed im not sure if this is the second wave meaning the first went unnoticed coz it looks like 20ft and in reply to jackbauer346 you obviously havnt spent much time near the ocean because if u are on the beach and a 20 foot wall of water hits u, u will die, and seeing as u are going to be pushed at least 50m you will probably hit all the cars and debris anyway
