Music is not only solos, repetitiveness can also be a value (check Steve Reich when you pull your head out of your ass). The solo is not perfect, the performance is not perfect, whatever - the song itself is good.

I think that he made that mistake in the solo because he was playing an acoustic guitar ( i have seen him in other concerts playing the solo with an electric one) and its well known that the acoustic guitar has more distance between strings.

Just look at the last part of the solo, the velocity he wanted to reach (according to the background music) with that guitar is almost impossible if youre not Steve Vai or similar.

But, its just my opinion.

Well as it says in their biography 'No Mercy' - Hugh recorded the solo for the single at half speed and could never be bothered to learn it at the right speed - hence practically every time they played this track live - balls up!

In Song by Song Hugh himself agrees with Dave Greenfield when he said that he could never get the tempo quite right for the solo...though apparently he's got it sorted now...I'd say he's a much better guitarist now than he was in the Stranglers.
