And also while the stuff is fast it fits the songs really well, like The Dark Eternal Night the solo is really chaotic and in In The Name Of God it has a real middle-eastern feel and it fits perfectly. and then there is other songs like Goodnight Kiss where John slows it down abit. to call him a soulless shredder is just ignorant

PPL stop complaning about placment of the solos... this is opinion of saket. i woudl not even dare to do top30 cause all are diffrent (instrumental and normal songs) some are very easy and efective and some of them are very hard and dont sound too good but you need a lot of practice and technic to play them, only true guitar player which played all the solos can place them in line due to sound and difficulty. this is my opinion.

Ironically I like his slow solos better, because you can apreciate the melody in them, rather than hear 1000 notes per minute, I mean its cool how he plays fast but after a while it just sounds annoying and I,m like "Well can you do anything else?", but that's just my opinion.

yeah, that's what makes the magic. I like JP's solo in that one, i'd never use "random" to define DT's music or riffs though... since it's always planned. but the solo is some insanely fast unison (JP, JR) over a nice groovy (almost reggae) (JM, MP) beat line :D

Most of the solo for In the Name of God is not a solo: Rudess is playing the exact same thing along with him... same in Metropolis, This Dying Soul, and a lot of the LTE stuff. I guess that makes it a duo. Still bloody amazing, though :)
