  • how much were these back in the day brand new?? i love my talon :)

  • @mike10709 I paid 19,500 brand new for mine in '93. Still love the "old" girl.

  • lol @ vq's the 350z is over rated the fastest one in th country is like 10 seconds

  • great marketing to the cocaine set of the late 80s/early 90s. Dude is clearly tweaking.

  • they must have won some imaginary awards cause thats bulls*it

  • True, the vq is a stout motor with lots of potential but I purposely omitted it from my list of motors with potential simply bc of cost. Seriously, for the cost of building the vq you could build a 4g63 that would embarrass it and still have enough left over to fix it when it breaks.

  • what say in Spanish this guy?

  • What do these cars do for 0-60"? Im talking TSI AWD 5 speed

  • @JoZuko 5-6 seconds, depends fat you are :]]

  • back then 50 was more like 100 with gas prices and every thing being so low in price .... and 1,000,000 was actually considered to be a lot of money

  • Sounds like all of you need to get a Taurus SHO. 2nd gen prefferably.

  • Man how I wish I would have been born in the early 80's so I could have been old enough when the 2g's came out... Imagine how cooler it would have been??

    Man, it sucks...

And I can't get my hands on ANY DSM's... It's screwed up!

    GOD bless.

  • @BASSCHAMP101 yeh they're hard to get a hold of but i got mine pretty easy actually a 92 Talon Tsi :D

  • wow i miss those years i was young all these cars were so cool wish i had a chance to buy one, good my favorite was prelude

  • I remember way back when Pepsi put letters under there bottle cap for a chance to win a Talon. There was also a tv commercial for that also. Does anyone have that

  • $50 test drive? does that mean they give you $50 or charge you $50?

  • They would give you $50.00! There was a long line when I got there, around the corner and down the street! You name it, every walk of life, homeless to housewives, in that line for that crisp bill. : )

  • @jess4metoo i think it mean u pay 50buck to test drive it lol

  • @seezang I did a bit of research on Google, and it turns out, they were offering $50 to test drive this vehicle.

  • what do you think?

  • My mother had a Plymouth Laser, similar to the Talon and Eclipse. Her 1990 Laser RS had a 2.0 non-turbo engine with 135 HP and automatic; that car was exceptional, and it was fun to drive! More fun than the current Mustang and Camaro! It was sleek (no wing), stylish, and it was comfortable; I would have had many tickets in that car, too. This car helped Chrysler greatly; it was also made in Normal, Illinois, at Diamond Star Motors; it was a quality car, and it was reliable.

  • back then DSMs were just as quick as the camaro and mustang V8s. And mrZdude, The 1g DSMs like the talon in the video didn't crankwalk. The ones that were the most prone were 95 models and the percentage of those was extremely low. Also, the Z31 and Z32 were crap compared to the 4g63. The 4g63 has its issues but it has WAAAY more potential than any Nissan motor except the SR20det and the way-too-expensive RBs. Even the vg30 turns to crap past 60k miles.

  • does the VG30 really go to shit after 60k? my dad has an 87 300zx with the vg30et in it, and he's at 120k, seems to be doing fine still.. what happens to them?

  • Actually the crankwalk issue was happening since 92 when they switched to the 7bolt engine, but it was more likely to happen in the 2g model because of bad quality and it was abused more.

(most likely because the fast and the furious movie which had a 2g eclipse came out during the last year of the 2g's production)

  • Yea, you're right. I should have been more clear, but the one in the commercial isn't a 7 bolt.

  • @DizzyTheSuccubus wrong, 95 was the worst year for crankwalk and after that it was pretty much fixed though there are still a handfull of cases here and there. You're also wrong about the fast and the furious coming out in the last year of 2g production. F&F came out in 2001 the last year of the 2g was 1999.

  • Whoops my bad about the fast and the furious deal I thought it came out in 99. Also I never said anything about what year was the worst just that it started when they swapped to the 7 bolt but that it was more likely to happen to the 2g (95-99)

  • @xsboost25psi I realize you made this comment 9 months ago, but you really need to reconsider your definition of fast. 140chp is fast to you? Don't make me laugh. Just as quick as V8 foxes? LOL. Do you have any idea what a STOCK LX could do to a lightly modded DSM? It isn't pretty. I know firsthand. If your DSM isn't broke, you are.

  • @PbDude2 140 chp? The 4g63t in stock form was running 195chp. The 3g mustang 5.0 ( 4.9) was rated anywhere from 205 and 225chp. The camaro 5.0 was rated from 170 to 230chp. All three cars had very similar 0-60 and 1/4 mile times in stock form so yes DSMs were just as quick as the pony cars OF THE DAY. And I do have a good idea what a mildly modded fox can do having lots of mustang friends ranging from mild mods to low 10 sec. street driven stangs.

  • @PbDude2 yea i do....lx get eat up...look at the 1/4 time between the two cars...there the same. xsboost25psi is right.they ARE just as fast.

  • @PbDude2 get ur facts straight ...the 1990 gsx model had 195 hp stock..even look at the crappy mustang V6 hp pathetic ..stock its about even to a 5.0 .and yes a lightly modded eclipse talon would smoke a fox body i ran 12.2@114 with just a full exhaust turned up boost more fuel FMIC and rebuilt turbo and fuel controller..cost me less than $ 1,000 to run low low 12's in a dsm...mustangs just plain suck . look up john shep dsm on you tube ...7 second DSM street daily driver u idiot..

  • @PbDude2 ya got that right. these little dsm fags thing there cars are the shit. when in reality they are garbage. blow trannys and you have to change the timing belt every 25k or it'll snap and bend the valves.ya real awesome car. theyre fuckin junk

  • @cotequadsport You're a retard haha.

The transmissions are actually very durable for the torque that goes through them. A stock tranny can handle up to 500hp.

Timing belt change interval is 60k, and costs about $200 for everything and takes around 15 minutes if you aren't mentally retarded.

The 4g63 is as easy if not easier than a lot of v8's to make fast.

Please, for your sake don't make yourself look like such a tool again by posting shit you have no idea about.

  • @Bbdrew whaaaaaaaaaaaat? are you fucking serious little man?obviously you have no clue what your talkin about. just because you watch you tube viseos and wish you had a dsm, dont make you an expert. i know first hand these stock trannys are. ask anyone who knows anything about dsm. and if your going to google. you should try doing it right. and the 4g63 is is just as easy to make as fast as a v8? now i know your just a little kid thinking your little 2litre is the shit.fucking homo

  • @cotequadsport Wish I had a DSM? HAHA you don't even watch my vids, you already proved you're a giant tool.

You must have been conceived by your mother mating with a vegetable to get such a brain dead moron. Stock DSM transmissions handle 400whp+, the only reason they DO go out is because of the sheer torque and damage of AWD launches which would destroy T56's just as bad, thats why high HP FWD dsm's run stock trannies with LSD.

Quit talkin about shit you don't know son, fuckin kids on youtube

  • @Bbdrew your an idiot. chrysler cant build anything for shit. but glad somebody wh doesnt watch your shitty videos is automaticly in the tool catagory. who the fuck says tool anyways? oh ya, 12 year olds

  • @cotequadsport rofl, seems I'm getting under your skin. Considering all you can do is resort to posting shit like "12 year olds" yup Im 12 with a DSM I drive, damn son you just keep proving how stupid you are.

You're still a tool and a typical white trash cousin-banging moron.

Again, please for your sake quit making yourself look like a bigger idiot. Just stop commenting.

  • @Bbdrew just because your car is junk you dont need to be mad at me

  • @cotequadsport Haha that talon of mine is one of the cleanest 1g's there are.

The fact you're callin it junk just proves you have no real arguments to back towards me.

The fact is, I proved you wrong about the bullshit you were spewing from your cum guzzler. Get the cock out of your mouth and get off youtube. You've already shown everyone how massive of a tool you are.

  • @Bbdrew are you seriously still commenting to me? you should consider finding a job, hobby, maybe after school activities? in every reply you send me PROVES TO ME that you really have no life. so you call me everything except late for dinner. im sure your mom is proud that her little basement dweller knows how to retaliate like a 5th grader. if you were as mature as you claim to be, you would not be replying. and nobody cares. and as a matter of fact, i would like proof that is really your car.

  • @cotequadsport rofl I see I've REALLY gotten under your skin, I mean half of your 'insults' are just twisted regurgitated shit that I've said to you. You obviously care if you're getting all butthurt.

Uhh, how much more proof do you need? I have like 6-7 videos of it, are you that much in disbelief? Some people can back the shit they talk, you are not one of them, if I talk shit I'll back it up.

Get the sand out of your vagina and just accept the fact you got fuckin annihlated in this convo

  • @Bbdrew hate to break your heart but you have failed to get under my skin, make me mad, etc. but i will tell you that you are annoying as hell. this is what i know. i owned a 97 rs eclipse that somebody threw a turbo in. ya it was a quick little car but i changed the tranny in it TWICE. something about the pin fell out of place. and it litterly blew a hole threw the tranny. i had a friend with a dodge avenger which i know has the same exact tranny. same friggen problem. you can stop now.

  • @cotequadsport ROFL well now I know why you are so misinformed. You had a 420a turbo with a 420a tranny.

Don't be a complete retard and start saying DSM's are shit when you only get your info from having a 420a which is hardly even a DSM. You basically had a turbo neon in an eclipse body.

    The 420a is in avengers/sebrings/neons/non-turbo 95-99 eclipses/talons, maybe a couple more.

The main idea of a DSM is the 4g63 Mitsubishi Evo motor.

    The 420a shit is JUNK

  • @Bbdrew well there. problem solved. maybe now i can come on you tube and not have 2 comments a day from you. so is the 2g eclipse all chrysler? and the 1g is not? just out of curiousity.

  • @cotequadsport 2g eclipse is still chrysler / mitsubishi however the plant was no longer Diamond Star Motors, it was Mitsubishi Motor Corperation of America or something, but they produced a lot more different cars in the plant in that time, sebrings/avengers. Hell the dodge stratus coupes are just a mitsubishi eclipse 3g.

The 1g had primarily mitsubishi motors, although the 1.8L reliability/powerless machine was a chrysler/mitsu combo.

  • @Bbdrew good to know. i like the appearance of a 2 g but if im understanding correctly, 16 is where its at? now what about a plymouth laser? is that considered dsm? or is that just an attempt by diamler chrysler to make a cheaper version of the eclipse/talon?

  • @cotequadsport 16 is where it at? you mean a 1g? Because the overall best DSM's in terms of to build from stock are arguably the 92 AWD made before the middle of 92, because they have the 6 bolt motor (bigger stronger rods) and the 4bolt rear end. Otherwise you either have a 6bolt motor and a 3 bolt rear, or a 7bolt motor and a 4bolt rear

They're all the same, I dont have a preference. The AWD lasers are considered rare though since they weren't AWD til 92, and they hardly got produced after

  • @Bbdrew ya 1g. dont know why i put 16. a dodge daytona kinda reminds me of these little cars. any relation to the 1g dsm?

  • @cotequadsport not really no

  • @xsboost25psi lol your exactly rite buddy, that's why any one that races dsm , usually goes for a 1st or 2n'd gen... the truth is the motor design didn't change until the spider eclipse and the evo/ srt4 neon adopted versions of the motor ! ... don't fix what isn't broken rite!! ha

  • @xsboost25psi the sr20det does not have the robust botom end a 6bolt does so what are your talking about are you a mechanic no i did not think so.

  • Comment removed

  • @4g63gen1 I never said the sr20det has the"robust bottom end" (yes bottom has two ts) a 6 bolt has. I was only stating that much like the 4g63, the sr20det has much potential. I never said they were equal or have the same hp curve in stock form or modified. I only stated a fact. The sr20det has much potential whether you like it or not. So . . . did you make a valid point? No, I did not think so.

  • @xsboost25psi well tell me this how many sr20det motor's r in the high 6's low 7's NONE, Brent Rau and the DSM GOD John Shep 4G63T BABY ALL DAY ,(4G63T FTW)

  • @eclipse93gst kako racing's sr20 powered datsun. 7.11@191mph. Now, had you read the entire context you'd know that I never said the sr20 was better, as good, or as powerful as the 4g63. I merely stated that it is one of the only nissan motors that even remotely has the potential of the 4g63. I was actually defending the dsm against someone who said that nissan is better. If I thought the sr was better I wouldn't have 3 4g63 powered dsms. Your point is moot. I do agree with you though, 4g63T FTW

  • @xsboost25psi my bad koo

  • @xsboost25psi um ok... ever heard of VQ????? Get real the 3800v6 in the GTR is a monster compared to the 4gdinosaur...even the VQ35 in the 350z has more potential- You can wave goodbye to the 4g anyways cuz the new engines will be built in conjunction with Hyundai for use in the Genesis and several new mitsu's... as for me Ill stick with my GM LS v8s cuz I like my 280z to go FAST...

  • @series1riv yea there junk..

  • @xsboost25psi except automatic transmission 95's ;)

  • @xsboost25psi the vg30 had alot of supporting problems.. fuel, cooling, oil etc. The block itself was fuckin amazing and a built vg30 holds the landspeed record. RB26 blocks are not very expensive.. and thats the best one. I love nissan.. they build very fast, responsive, great handling cars.

  • back then the top of the line prelude has 135hp and that was considered fast.

the DSM's were ahead of their time in power and drivetrain.

  • I'll take my 200hp '86 300ZX turbo, that is RWD and doesn't have crank walk. Also, first production V6 from japan.

Ahead of their time in power, and drivetrain. Independent rear suspension, 4 wheel disc, LSD in '87-89, 200hp SOHC V6 (first japanese V6)...and in Japan the VG30DE made way in 1986 with the worlds first production electronic VVT, and it had coil on plug.

  • I wish you forum gossipers would shut the hell up. 7 bolts dont crankwalk enough to even talk about them. A handful crankwalk and overtime the 7 bolt was made better.

  • there all mitsu eclipse nothing different just bumper and wheel packages and engines 90-94 had options between 2.0 , 2.0 turbo, and 1.8 and plus your fwd, awd option as a owner of one we just call them DSM (DIAMOND STAR MOTORS)

  • I also seen the Japanese video which is more inspiring as it has it run and also listed the stats. I had a 90 Eagle talon but let it go after i blew the engine. Been two years and i still miss that car. Once i get some money i am considering a replacement

  • Insurance was the dealbreaker. I was quoted $2500/yr for insurance on one of these. But only $1200/yr for a Camaro Z28.

  • Wish they still made them

  • Lol One of Chryslers blunders for sure. But There are plenty of Eagles still out there waiting to be tuned

  • wish i could get my hands on a tsi... : /

  • they're on ebay 24/7 just about.

  • I worked at a dodge dealer in wester PA. they told me the TSi AWD was $21,000 brand new in 1990.

  • i bought one one year older for 3,000

  • i bought a 1990 4 300 bucks but the exhaust mani is cracked

  • mitsubishi components, ok.

  • wow $50 test drive what a rip off

  • I test drove it for free, but that was in'93. So maybe no one took the bate.

  • I believe anywhere from 16-20k, then they rose to about what the prices of evos are today to that back then. SO about 25-30k for 98's in 98... I believe, but don't hold me to it, it's been so long I forgot...

  • how much were talons when they came out in 1990?

  • I bought mine "loaded" in Dec '93 for 19,500.00.
