Ilyushin IL-18 from the flightdeck

Pretty neat. You can tell these guys are pros, the captain is using the checklist

to keep the sun out of his eyes. The IL-18 is one of the remaining 'real airplanes'

still in service, like what I fly, the Convair 640.

what is that big periscope in the middle ? it lloks like you are in a submarine. why do they have a small GPS?

@zorro051969 That periscope is a weather radar...GPS is over that radar, and a bigger GPS is at the right.

makes the dc9-30 look modern with all the steam guages on this thing the beauty of this il-18 is its a true stick and rudder flying experiance not computerized like todays a330's and boeing777's

I'm sure that trip will be great. I was tempted myself, but 499EUR plus getting there and back from the UAE was just a bit too much.

I will try for another Daallo Airlines flight later this year - hopefully this time I'll get the photos I want.
