  • I hate the normal color vision requirements..it deprives so many people of their dream jobs when they can clearly distinguish color just not the damn dot test

  • If I join this rating can be part of a TACLET?

  • There's lots of fast boats and guns in this video, but in maritime law enforcement, you're probably going to spend most of your life doing paperwork.

  • @SteamboatWilley absolutely true.

an ME rate is basically a Police Chief. BMs and GMs usually do a lot of the Law Enforcement.

  • So I was wondering what the weight standards are since I am a big guy but am in shape to some degree. But I still have a little ways to go before I can join up and hoping to get in shape

  • @MonsterMotoxx They are really strict on weight standards, i seen someone get booted from the coast guard because he was too over weight and didnt seek any motivation to get into shape

  • Do you have to go to the Coast Guard Academy and endure the same training as Rescue Swimmers if you want to become an (ME) ? Or is there a separate course for that

  • @StevenSupernatural No; all three are in completely different training areas, and they each have their own training regime. The CG Academy is for CG personnel training to become Commissioned Officers; the Rescue Swimmers training is primarily based on aircrew / rescue training, whereas ME is more focused on law enforcement training. Different physical standards.

  • @djr751 ah, gotcha, thanks. I'd like more info on the ME rating, just in case I join the USCG after I become a police officer (If that goes down), but there aren't many updates

  • @StevenSupernatural coast guard academy is for people who want to be officers. Rescue swimmer school is for if you want to be a rescue swimmer. So the ME rate will be entirely separate.

  • @sjerseyb856 oh alright thanks

  • I would like to join the USCG and eventually become an ME. However, a friend of mine who joined last year said their was a 2 -3 year wait after I joined to get this rating. Is this true or not? I

  • @jc790 maybe since there will be a lot already in the coast guard that will be applying, and will most likely take the first positions in the schools. its not said but that's usually how it happens, GM, or BM or those that are already part of boarding teams will most likely be picked first before and enlisted for training.

  • Click my name to view the Coast Guard 'ME' Intro Video I created!

  • where is this training and is it a guarenteed A school? also how does someone become part of the MSST's ?

  • @nirvanadropkicks Refurre to my other comments in this section for more information. As for availability you would need to check with your recruiter. Mostly there will be a 12 month waiting period for this rate since most positions will be filled by those already in the CG like BM's and GM's and others that may have boarding team experience. MSST's are highly trained and have lots of experience under their belt again going about obtaining a position like this is best disused with a recruiter.

  • haha

  • You know, this would be all true if it wasn't for the new budget that is coming out. That ME rating will be locked up, and don't be surprised if you find yourself a Gate Guard.

  • wait if i wanna join the coast guard now? could i go to basic then train for this?

  • @elementkid177 you could sign in your contract to go to ME school after basic training, BUT that does not grantee you a spot to get into ME school Right after basic. There could be a long waiting list. They will only send recruits threw as there is a need for that particular rate. That being said, the openings for that school might get filled by those already in the coast guard. Creating a waiting list, So while you are waiting to go to your specialty school you could be a non-rate buoy tender.

  • It pisses me off that you can not find one recruiter that has any information on this new rating. As a civilian law enforcement officer I've been interested in joining the coast guard for quite some time. But I never get solid information from recruiters or I get contradicting statements from one office to another. The coast guard should do a better job on recruiting talent into their ranks. They need a major overhaul on their recruiting websites along the lines of the other branches.

  • @syscrash319 the coast guard isnt in desperate need for anyone to recruit, when i was in people who just got out of boot said it took them a year to get into the coast guard, so i dont think they really care about recruiting like the army and marines do

  • @syscrash319 It may seem kind of late, but there is a website. uscg.org that has a lot of information on anything Coast Guard. I learned alot about the ME rank from there.

  • @syscrash319 I understand what you mean completely, I went to talk to a recruiter and I asked her about many different units that I was interested in and for all the questions she said the same thing "It depends where they send you." If I'm not able to choose the job I want to do in the coast guard maybe a different service would be better.

  • @syscrash319 I agree however the CG has the smallest budget out of all armed services and they use old equipment currently it is necessary to upgrade that equipment before recruiting can come along in the budget...I do wish they were given more but I think not many people appreciate them till they need the CG to rescue them I'm not a expert of course just my opinion as a hopeful Guardsman

  • Im number 2 on the A-School list! Ive waited years as a non rate to be apart of this rating. I guess over four years of sea time on a 270 really helped in being on top of the list lol. Cant wait to see all you others in the field.

  • 80% of people who are going to change rate are going to be BM and MK's

  • Where did you get that number?

  • There is an old saying in the CG Choose your rate choose your fate.

  • this is a silly rate....BM and MK have been doing this job for years. so it does not take brains to me an ME....

  • and BMs and MKs have been stuck out of rate at the MLEA, TACLETs, MSRT and Base Security units, for years at a time. This will help relieve that along with making sure that there is a LE specialist (ME) to oversee qualifications, training as well as be up to date with current policy.

  • Good luck with that, might want to join the Marines if you're looking for head shot opportunities

  • The ME rating is going to be an awesome opportunity for people to "specialize" in one particular job and you are actually a maritime enforcement officer..for those of you who said it was a waste of time or a joke, it looks like you couldn't handle it so in retrospect you wasted taxpayer and coast guard time and money...so it's good your not part the country's great maritime service...just stay home and pout.

  • What do you mean by marksman?

  • very big waste of time, ur not really a law enforcement officer. u get no trraining whatsoever. its a joke. i know i was int he coast guard.

  • i want to be marksman so bad!!!!!!

  • A step in the wrong direction in my opinion...

  • I want to!
