This song first came on one of my Pandora radio stations, and I was mad cause it was completely unrelated to the music I was listening to, but I heard it out and now I have a whole different station devoted to it....hahaha.
i used to call my ex-girlfriend the moon. it was an awesome metaphor too. i miss her. i want her to understand how i feel. and to know that we are not meaningless. this song makes me think of that. live in true love :)
I cannot believe that I missed my opportunity to go see them live. It saddens me but at the same time, I pray from the chance for them to come back and perform so I may have the honor of watching them live and live in the moments that these songs create for us.
me too. The whole audience just zoned out, really intense performance. idk if you're from Belgium like me but if you are they're coming to the muziekodroom (hasselt) on the 18th of november :D

saw them last night, amazing as hell, i've never had such a feeling that its indescribable, i felt like i died and those were the sounds of heaven opening unto me and when it all ended i revived into this world which is chaotic
I just got introduced to this music today, but I'm sure I've heard this song before somewhere (specifically this one, not another EitS song), and I did not watch Friday Night Lights... gaah now this is going to bother me.
They don't have songs quite as great as this... the ending, especially the drums are so well handled especially for 5 minutes... It's just their most perfect song.
@VagrantWatcher213 Yeah, I agree it's their best song, but they have plenty of other great pieces. "First Breath After Coma" is another personal favorite of mine. A very different ending than this one, but similar in the sort of build-up-to-auditory-orgasm kind of thing. This is a great track of a great album, but if you're judging their albums on the whole, I have to say The Earth Is Not is a better album. This particular song is still my fave by them though.
last year, our form travelled to spain by bus to celebrate high school graduation. it was a 15h drive.we drank a lot and bit by bit everyone around me fell asleep. i took my mp3player and laid me down on the floor and fell asleep finally, too. when i woke up, it was still night, everyone of my 50 mates slept and this song played on my mp3player. i cried. every time i listen to that, i feel to travel back to that time remembered by euphoria but also of the pain to say goodbye. unique piece.
@JayFalq It is because most people cannot hear a song that long for they do not connect with it as deep as people who truly feel and connect with music that is MAGIC hehe <3 cause yes i agree, it is fucking bliss :D honestly and i love , long songs always have always will. Never gonna change
I saw these guys at Sasquatch, there were so many good bands there, but Explosions was still my favorite. The music is so profound, so emotional, and so hopeful! I hope they never stop!
@pilotguy87 just check out the Friday Night Lights album, it has all the songs in it and it is probably "Your hand in Mine" or "A Poor Man's Memory"- Explosions in the Sky
@ExplosionsintheSky27 Ya I've got the album, but Its not on there along with a few others. Its the one that plays when they are on the bus to the championship game... If you've ever seen the movie..
@ExplosionsintheSky27 I tried that too, but this is where it played on the scene practice day one, and where they were on the bus headin to west texas. am i right?
@pilotguy87 Explosion in the Sky has an album called Friday Night Lights. All the songs have been used as soundtracks on the show. The opening theme song is one of their songs.
@SpeedKills4914 Nah I know that one well. It's not the one I'm thinking of. It's while they're on the bus on the way to the championship. It's a standard 4/4 count with the the bass drum and crash cymbal hit on counts 1 and 3 while there are three 8th notes in between. It may have just been a little segment they made for that scene of the movie. It played for less than 10 seconds probably..
@pilotguy87 if youre still looking, google whatever season it is (with the shows name) and "soundtrack", then click on squidoo. It lists all the songs in every single episode :) No spammer, btw lol
Ah! My favorite piece by these awesome guys. The way this ends, the drums and everything. It kills me. So effin' great I could cry. How could anybody ever consider suicide in a world where music like this exists?
i didn't realize that the title was a reference to macbeth until i read it (fleance says "the moon is down" just before banquo's murder) ... and upon googling it, i found that it could also allude to a novel of the same title by john steinbeck, which, i'm guessing, alludes to macbeth in turn.
whichever one it is, this is a lovely, sad, wintry song.
@bazooka92pop the moon is down was translated in many different countries. it wasnt america first, becuase john steinbeck made the germans win, and also gave the nazi's human traits and in a time of war, they did not want it published in america. its an interesting read, about the germans taking over a town and making them work for them, and how they both (germans and towns-people) cope with that.
this, is what everybody calls music. 'cause it speaks for itself, and can tell you a message even without words. this is definetely the best band I've ever heard
It is somewhat amazing that a lot of graphic and literary artists cannot really describe beauty to its fullest and yet those guys know how to express it by simply hitting some drums and pulling some strings. It is almost sad that this is more emotional and deep than a lot of songs today that actually have lyrics!
@ExplosionsintheSky27 excuse me...I drew the picture...My name is Robert E Lee. Explosions have 1850-70 whores at their disposal. I saved Lee Harvey Oswald and Lee Lee Sobieski's lives. Now i do whatever i fuckin feel like.
@rafrafc its an original done for the album cover inspired by the story of the Angels of Mon. A story that angels appeared to help fight off the Germans in WWI at the battle of Mons.
Their music is as beautiful the hundreth time I've listened to it as it is the first. I don't think I've ever heard a band that puts more heart into their music than Explosions in the Sky.
@animlk3 Well, I don't like the Emotional Hardcore much, nor do I get very emotional, but I was at that time that I put that comment. Your comment in null and void, sir.
This may sound dumb, But i listened to this song and wrote a poem with it. with the same song title i wrote 4 poems based off some songs off Explosions in the Sky, they're pretty good is what i've been told. The point is I love their music!
@utune12345 so true, its crazy that music can bring out such a rare speial emotion. i think its mind blowing.i still cant believe it. they get me every time. <3
