  • You're really good, Simon! Ali:)

  • Yeah... But... No... He actually plays it in 'drop D' and uses a whammy pedal to drop the note on the press of your foot. Even a cheap Behringer Whammy pedal will do the trick. Also, he doesn't use a 'shrill' tone from a Strat, it's a humbucker with some killer overdrive. To get that vibe you need to be in drop D. If you're really good with your whammy technique you can do the effect without resorting to a Whammy pedal. But live? Use a pedal for consistency. It's much more than just the notes...

  • lesson, great...♫ interesting

  • I enjoyed this lesson. Thanks for posting it!

  • Great lesson, man! I like the way you throw in lots of technical terms (vibrato, pentatonic, staccato), as if the lesson's for someone intelligent, as well as the way you include many subtle ways to make it sound as much as possible like the band plays it. Thank you!

  • I believe he uses the Digitech Whammy pedal to make the dive.

  • @LBdreaming actually, he uses

  • @LBdreaming I use my whammy bar with my left hand while picking the low E string. Much cheaper than a Whammy pedal.

  • I would recommend that you use a dive pedal to help keep it in tune if you can get your hands on one

  • The Black Keys use a tremolo pedal instead of the sammy bar in order to stay in tune and get a consistent sound.

  • @sicemdawgs47 do you even know what a tremolo pedal does??

  • You should use a whammy bar instead for the original sound.
