  • is there a part 2?

  • I saw Tull on Aug 6, 1972 at the Gardens in Edmonton. Row 1 center seats, no security guards. I almost could have grabbed Ian Anderson's mic. The Eagles (who? - in those days) were the lead off band. But from what I remember they did play all of Thick as a Brick Parts 1 and 2. And they played most tracks of the Aqualung album.

Was probably the greatest concert I ever saw!

  • Silly me it was June 8, 1972 in Edmonton - how could I forget!

  • $5.50 for this show....what do we pay for now

  • Can't wait for the 2012 tour!

  • thick as a brick , my ex wife ! but a fantastic track

  • There is no question the entire album was performed in its entirety on the '72 tour. I saw them very early in the winter of 72 in Chicago - knew the album intimately -- every note -- and they played every one of them. It may have been the best concert I've ever seen - by anyone ever - and I've seen Tull at least 15 times since then. That concert was the most energetic and rollicking thing I have ever seen....

  • Ian was really the predecessor of theatrical front men way before his time. I can hardly watch these clips of his almost manic mannerisms without thinking of Peter Gabriel, and others like him who followed. Elton John was doing his own thing at the time, but also called Ian a "musical genius."

  • concerto in italia! dai "bravooooo!!!" del pubblico... che anno e dove?

  • absolutely.., i saw it.., went longer than the record.., was 90 min

  • Is that Jeffrey chatting with Martin?

  • 6:37 Where is this audio really from? I would like it if there was some place I could get the full mp3.

  • I was at the '72 concert in Boston Garden and it was fantastic. I remember a piano on stage with a huge telephone and it would ring during the song. I also remember a rabbit figure on stage. He is phenomenal. I love the flute.

  • @acemakerjay

I was at that show and to this day, thousands of musical experiences later in all genres, it remains one of the most breathtaking performances that i have ever seen--eclipsed only by the Passion Play concerts of 1973

  • One of my earliest concerts, Autumn 1972, Baltimore Maryland. Their "first" song was the entirety of TAAB; after the applause died down Ian announced, "and now, for our second number..." and the band went on for another hour and a half. Fantastic. I only wish Ian would release a full dvd of this show

  • Just another quick word to say that I adore this. Whoever put it together has done a real service. That live only section they play towards the end has reminded me of why I've loved this band for so damned long. Thank you!

  • Does anyone know where the footage/audio for the Aqualung 'demo' comes from? I see it says BBC Four in the upper left hand corner, but I don't remember this clip in their Prog Rock Britannia series. Any guesses where I can find it?

  • wish that i could have seen tull in this era! so great, i was born too late but im sure that this music will be enjoyed by future generations of musical folk.

  • The commentator says the album was performed in its entirety on the '72 tour, but is that really true? Did the band really play all of Side 2? I don't think I've heard any of that in the bootleg tapes.

  • @aboutime9 you are right.. they did however ad parts that were not on the lp. Also they may have played the entire thing or close to it on the first couple nights of the first tour and then scraped some of it.. this is unknown..

the entire brick recording would be the holy grail of recordings.

  • Comment removed

  • @aboutime9 Yeah. Tull omitted my favorite part of TAAB during the tour... "Do You Believe in the Day."

  • @aboutime9 Commentator is right, they did play the entire TAAB record in the 72, one of my liveliest music memories of that time. John Evan was his own exhuberant self. He is so missed.

  • One of the band members disses Yes a bit. But I'll take their catalog over Tull's anyday.

    But I LOVED Brick.

  • I saw "Thick as a Brick" debuted at Cornell University on this same tour, several days before they played it in Buffalo. I loved it, but my friend was pissed. I asked him what was wrong - he said he didn't pay concert money to hear overlong jams - I guess he wanted 2:33 songs.

  • @DirkJefferson I saw the 72 concert in West Palm Beach, Fl. Thick as a Brick had not been released in our area yet, so it was a song I had never heard until then. It was perfect. The whole night was like a dream. First off, there were men setting up the equipment on stage, they were all dressed in trench coats. Once the stage was set, the men remove their coats and it was the boys themselves. They jumped right into Thick as a Brick. Fantastic Stuff. It could not have been better.

  • Tull will remain as what can be considered as the most

exciting progressive rock bands of all times...They still tour like crazy all over the word, but they (he-Ian) have lost 90% of their talent... Ian just CAN'T sing anymore, and the band -except Martin- does not sound in comparaison to the initial members... Too old to rock n' roll...

  • @gaudo3 yes,, he lost 90%his manpower .. the sake, pehaps mqybe t he cigarrets

but it's curious how still his booking go on so filled!!!!

  • Woah! Awesome mini-doc! Excellent job. Recently sort of rediscovered JT.. Always enjoyed their music, but never really saw much live footage until recently... (I did see them on the 'Crest of a Knave' tour, but they didn't impress me much) In any case, live JT in their prime is about as good as it gets, and Ian A. is definitely one of the all-time best frontmen in R&R in terms of talent and showmanship. Ashame he doesn't get more credit and recognition than he does. Thanks for uploading

  • Superb! It is amazing that these films are starting to emerge at long last!

Shame that there were not more records of these stellar performance/cocecpt gigs (Tull brick, AP) Genesis (Lamb), Yes (topographics) etc

Well this is indeed a find!

  • Thnx for sharing! What a fantastic job you've done! One of my all time fav albums & artists! I Knew this album inside & out when I was but a child. Wow.. great job! Much Thnx! KC ;)

  • Great!!!!

    Tull are legends

  • Excellent document! It's history!

  • Nice! Very creative and informative as well.

    Why wasn't I born 30 years earlier!?

  • Great video , TullTapes ! *****

  • man i love Tull!!!!

  • FANTASTIC documentary.

Nice to see this legendary album documented for posterity.

Oh yes, thanks for the photo credit.

That's a RARE photo of Ian at a sound check in his black leather jacket.

  • really nicely done! It's great to hear some of those live performance bits that didn't make the album.

  • never heard that live TAAB section, thanks. Why Ian hasn't gotten hip and made some live downloads available on .dotcom i'll never know we'd love have this stuff!

  • AWESOME!

  • Once again, beautiful job, Tulltapes!

    Thanks so much! Nick

  • ditto nick!!!!

  • Thanks. I enjoyed hearing that a gorilla walked on stage and took photos of John Evans during a show!

  • Ooops! I listened again and the gorilla took photos of the audience (not organ player). I think a photo shoot of John Evans going on during a live show by a gorilla would be even funnier.

  • Dude! You have outdone yourself with this one. I still listen to TAAB at least once a month after all these years, and don't think I'll ever tire of it.
