Reading all those comment about race. The Birmingham in England is the same but alot of it has been taken by muslim. Some areas are just muslim only. It was big with textile and tailoring due to the large number of jews but now the clothing is run by immigrants from India,pakistan and Turkey. If you are looking for a great place to eat in birmingham, Jensei (Its a sushi restraunt) in soho village is a WONDERFUL place to eat. We ate there when we visited and it was GREAT!

Its' few saving graces, the theme park (Alabama Adventure - liked the name "Visionland" better) and its' musicians, especially the jazz and blues artists, some of the best in the world, & they deserve a lot better than here. Birmingham itself overall? A classic example of what can happen to a city when it doesn't keep up with the future , a very boring, stagnant, powerless, co-dependent place. You'd be surprised at how many people that live here truly hate it . Tragic wasted potential of a city.
