the capo allows the open strings to ring on... i.e. try to let the first open g ring on through those 4 or 5 bars etc as a cello does. but it sounds really good... nice tone and great expression, just try to be more free with the time.... these are very indulgent pieces! :p
The capo allows you to use open strings and still stay in the proper key. As a bass player myself I try to avoid open strings at all cost as you lose some left hand control over the note.

Thank you. =) I thought about playing it without a capo, but the score I got told me to play with it, so I just kept it like that. lol
