  • The band have admitted that the main rhythm structure of this song came from Toto's "Hold the line" and The Beach Boys' "Sail on sailor"

  • They play this at sports events when the home team gets a penalty.

  • No danceing no fog just good music wow what happen to that

  • ...Woo-ooo-ooo

  • Dang Phil looked good back then and dont get me wrong he looks good now

  • @nicholasomesfilms yeah, i'd fuck him

  • It's official, I love Phil Collins :-)

  • I like Phil better when he's behind the drum kit AND singing.

  • mis-stake get it he was staked in the wrong place variety was the spice of his moms life she got her hair permed twice a week

  • mis-stake get it he was staked in the wrong place

  • I love Genesis, but they lift the riff from Sly and the Family Stone - Hot Fun in the Summertime (1969)...

  • @CatSquire Good call. Maybe someone can make a mash-up of the two songs?

  • This classic song could've easily fit on Phil's "Face Value" album but i'm glad that he saved it for Genesis instead. Along with "Turn it On Again" it introduced the band to a whole new generation of fans (myself included).

  • Great tune!! Killer drum set too!!

  • I guess it's Chester Thomson on drums, right? :)

    ANd yes, definitely: Amazing song!

  • Wait, this was taken from a LaserDisc?? Who has those let alone a player!! WOW!!!

  • Duke - is the strongest Genesis album in 80's. Genesis forever!

  • THOMPSONFROMZAPPA,STUERMERFROMJEANLUCPONTY.

  • Tony Banks was just leaving.

  • Genesis! I;m 14 again!!!!

  • DUKE WAS AND STILL IS AN AMAZING ALBUM,

  • THIS IS GOOD SHIT

  • Chester!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • isn't funny how some singer's singing voice is so different from their speaking voice.... Phil Collins is one of those singers PHIL FOREVER!!!!!

  • .....also play this song in the farewell tour....

  • he's such a little twerp but great singer and drummer and this timing just takes me back :-)))))

  • @Kilchattan7 Apocalypse in 9/8

  • Incredibili!! Anche quando apparentemente fanno una canzone banale questi qua inventano una composizone geniale e indimenticabile!!

  • yes youngsters!! Thats GENESIS and your fathers were young an hopeful!

  • dicen que esta cancion lamescrib io cuando se iva a separar de su primera esposa

  • Fantastic. Genius. Best of the best. Imagination and Intelligence in the compositions.

  • Every show I saw was awesome

  • Man, the words kill me. So good. Sorry I am going through a break-up :(

  • Phil Collins is a sexy man ,, and I am a guy he rocks!

  • @climey Agreed. Only that I'm not a guy xD

  • phil collins absolutely rocks.

  • This is genius! Collins has the voice of a god! This is the perfect example of great pop music. There are great melodies and song structures here. These days, too many artists rely on one hooks per song and cheesy rap sections.

  • hope so

  • misunderstanding,misunderstanding,woooowww.....!!!!!!

  • misunderstanding,misunderstanding,misund,misund,misun,misund......!!!!!!

  • One of Genesis's best songs! This is the very first song I heard of Genesis! Cool song!

  • great song!

  • i always found phils repeating every line singing style very funny but at 3:33 i think he blew a fuze, lol

  • @pinkfloydrule27

you got to be kidding. You haven't heard much with Phil Collins, the drumer.

He is a really good drumer, jazzrock is one of the musicstil.

  • @Flash1959 i like brand x but akways found jazz fusion a little over the top (coming from a Yes and ELP fan!)

  • @pinkfloydrule27 But Pink Floyd do rule, notice on LastFM service, a severe lack of the bands music, and I am miffed! They have solo cuts mostly and some Dub versions which suck!

  • One of the few prog rock bands that went "main stream" and did it RIGHT!

Their pop stuff is everywhere as nuanced as their older stuff.

  • agreed it took me a while too get into the post gabriel era but duke and abacab are great albums that i now love

  • @pinkfloydrule27 I believe there's no animosity there, seeing Phil live, he's a true fan of the standard early rock era and gets his style from those that founded Rock singing and drumming

  • I thought Mike played all of the guitar parts that were post-Hackett in concert and Daryl played all of the old stuff? I saw them on their reunion tour a couple of years ago and that's how it was. Come to think of it, though, they didn't play Misunderstanding in concert which really pissed me off. But I though Mike wrote the guitar on this and everything from Duke on?

  • @jrock2264 Mike would record all the guitar and bass parts in the studio, but live he generally took his usual role as bass player, with Daryl taking the lead guitar parts. Even back in the "classic" days, Mike would occasionally play 12 & 6 string guitar live, depending on the needs of the track.

  • I'm glad these are out! Like watching the old stuff. Always makes me smile! Thanks for the post.

  • What a great song.

  • Anyone know what year this is from?

  • performed in 1981

  • @Elektrikaleerooster

I'am sure I knew this album of Genesis named Duke in the year of 1982, when I was almost absolutely crazy. I was then in the fifth class of the theoretical mathematician course at Eötvös Loránd University of Natural Sience.

This was my favourite album, almost better than Supertramp Concert in Paris.

  • @14zois ha i know!!!

  • 2:13!!

    LOL!!!!

    Banks, the traitor!!!!

  • Phil almost has some Joe Cocker-like mannerisms in this performance.

  • Has this concert been released on DVD yet?

  • almost. will be released in the video box set in 2 days

  • some of these songs are on three sides live if that helps . great cd

  • @Chime64 Not releases to Video (Beta and VHS formats) or LaserDisc can yet be found on DVD, and it helps keep a market alive for LD fans at least, and LD can be found but the media is more of a challenge actually! As you can guess. I own more then one LD and am selling spare hardware on CraigsList

  • bueno muy bueno

  • what a beautiful Phil..... some hackettmaniac said genesisinsideme has an ... ♥ with Phil.... hope so!

  • Love how he p[oints at the keyboard player when he says "he was jsut leaving"

  • was u drunk when u wrote this comment,,,,,,p[oints, jsut,,,ha ha ,,am not bein nasty

  • @Adamdidit That's the ever present jovial Collins, he is a funny man, and of course, on keys is the rather famous Tony Banks

  • Duke was a fuckin' amazing album. 'nuff said.

  • Duke is a so different album of Genesis... a amazing album ...that it is...! I like too much Duke ...

  • listen to nursery cryme.

  • Yeah, what about it?

  • before long they are going to take all of the genesis videos off of youtube.

  • Yeh, what is up with that. I went looking for them and can find none. What gives??

  • No you wrong, the song is isn' t in the list but "Hot fun in summertime" is ranked at #247 and he has the same bass line of Misunderstanding !

  • There's 'More Fool Me' from 1976. Great vocal performance.

  • one of Phil's all time best live performances!!!!

  • So much better version that the one in the albun

  • I see Ches is on drums...I like when Phil's on tho.

  • Now, who'd do that to Phil Collins?

  • wow , such an emotional song ...just perfect

  • genesis were better doing their own songs instead of shamelessly copying others.

  • Since when did they "copy" other songs?

    There must be some misunderstanding.

  • @capevideo "You can't hurry love" is one they did a cover of.

  • @low72 That was Phil Collins solo, not Genesis.

  • @JAB5625 Phil or Genesis, this is a GREAT SONG, and what a GREAT performance!!!! Absolutely fantastic!

If Banks and Rutherford decided to record it, it is because it's a worthwhile song to be called GENESIS song. If Peter Gabriel Still were in the band, they would go pop anyway, and they could even record this song. Wonder if Gabriel would sing this song

  • yeah uhmmmmmmm, Phil Collins wrote this for his first solo album, but then gave it to Duke.... so they copied no song fool

  • no, phil collins admits he took 'inspiration' from the sly stone song, and also another song. the similarities are uncanny.

  • wellw hy isnt IT as famous as this one? hmmmmm? so similar bout would do as good?

  • well, the song reached 2# on the american pop charts on its release and was played at the iconic woodstock festival. Rolling Stone ranked it #247 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

  • Rolling Stone Maganize is a shit. They don't know anything about music.

  • yes i agree but it does demonstrate the prominance.

  • Anyway, if we consider that a song like "Beat It" from Michael Jackson is ranked 337 from 500, 247 for a less known song is not too bad.

  • thanks for posting...looks great

  • ottimo, ottimo video

  • excellent video quality

  • this is definitely a slower tempo than the record. what the hell?

  • Thats because the one on the album was recorded the night before at the Savoy Theatre (November 28, 1981) which was the only recording from that show that was put on the album.

  • ah...i see. thanks for clearing that up!

  • Great performance! But why didn't Banks & Rutherford provide any backing vocals?

  • I don't know.

  • perhaps they wanted Phil sings alone... what a simple reply of mine... but... look at Mike... he looks very , very nice....♥

  • Nice wristbands, Phil.

  • He is one of the Worlds great rock drummers, these are drumming wristbands.

He plays a few sets at this concert.

  • well ive been waiting for this weekend....

  • arr arr ohh oh misunderstanding.....
