This is one of the most engaging (Midsummer Nights Dream) productions that l have ever seen& I (LOVE IT!!). This refreshing portrayal really makes it easy for me to follow it& l absolutely (LOVE IT!!). l only wish that it was available on (Region2). l know its available in (Region1) but its crazy that its not available for English viewing.
If you have it in your power to release it in (Region2) then please do. Im not to proud to say, PLEASE!. PRETTY PLEASE! WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!. lts not fair!
Hmm, interesting how the "fair" and "painted maypole" is dark-haired :P.
And this was much MUCH better than the '99 Calista Flockhart version. That was just sad.
and I'm currently in my run of performances for my youth Shakespeare theater group's (unabridged, uncut and AWESOME!) showing of this play. I play Hermia in my cast, and I'm sad because we only have one more show to go.
Me and the other three lovers did so much to bring up the comedy in this scene, it's incredibly fun :D
This is one of the worst versions of midsummer I've ever seen. I like and respect many actors even though 90% of the actors seem to be suffering from depression.
I'm Helena in my school production of this but we made it circus themed with the four lovers as clowns hahaha it should be fun :D performing next week!
This Friday I play as Helena!!!! and this is one of my fav scenes! except that this Diana Rigg lady is very very very dramatic! did u hear her scream! Honestly! and im doing the modern version!
This production is on DVD y'know. Technically not the best, but the play's the thing, and the cast and reading is superb. Best Oberon ever!... Ian Richardson. Worth having.
I just watched the whole thing on DVD. What hilarious fun! And I do believe Charlotte Bronte must have read this play not long before she wrote "Jane Eyre": there is a lot of talk of fairies, sprites and mustard-seeds! In fact, Jane says being Rochester's bride must be a fairy-tale, a day-dream.
By-the-bye, Michael Jayston looks just like Richard Bolitho here! Oh reverie...
8 people don't know good acting if it smacks them square in the face!

Oh. Oh, jeez. This is terrible! I thus conclude that the 1960s failed at Shakespeare.

"I am not yet so low but that my nails can reach onto thine eye!!" :D Looove that line!! :D
Diana Rigg is a star anyway, young Helen Mirren is a real beauty as well! This film is total bliss!!!!
This is so a hippie version :D Look at the shirts and miniskirts (!) and boots!!

pretty funny how Hermia runs at Helena standing on the ground, but when it cuts back to diana she's in a tree. Gotta love the continuity x]

almadora,
I recommend you to check Michael Jayston's fan site. He has done A LOT! Here are some of my favourites:
Follow Me (1972), Jane Eyre (1973), Nicholas & Alexandra (1971) and Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy (1979).
