I'm planning on buying either this amp or something not as heavy to add to expand on my current collection of amps. What're your opinions on the clean channel for the 5150 and the excess noise (something you'd use a suppressor to get rid of) from the gain channel?
@cbertram11 Same amp. Allow me to explain :) . When EVH was endorsed be Peavey, they made him the 5150 and 5150II. They sold well. VERY well. So when he left, they decided to keep the amp. But since he took the EVH name with him, they renamed it to the 6505 and 6505+. All they changed was the name. Then they made the 6534+ which is the same as the 5150II/6505+ accept that it has EL34 power tubes in it.
Top notch! Well played, the best sound possible out of the amp used! Great achievements! think I will use your video as a reference to coming productions of my own band... check my vids out if you want! cheers from sweden
hey man i have a 6505+ combo, just put a warehouse veteran 30 in it. I use a maxon od808 and its sick except for the fact that my bottom string palm mutes are really really scratchy. any advice on how to fix this? I can only scrub it out with the dials by turning the bass waaaay up, ruining the rest of my playing. Its a fat as hell bottom string as well, dont understand why this is happening. would love your advice man you're a sick player!
Just got this amp in the 2x12 combo version yesterday for $388 after a trade in of a Crate Flexwave Halfstack that I didn't like anymore and I love the 5150!
dude how do you go about writing your shit, just play something completely random and go from there? because thats the only way i can imagine doing it
@Bempley just start with a riff you like and write riffs to fit with the riff you wrote - key necessarily doesnt matter as long as it flows - leads you gotta worry about key.
@strahinje depends on if you like the sound. go in a store, and try it^^ what sounds good to one has not to sound good in your ears. and you hardly get THE sound of nile or deicide, because it further depends on the guitar, the pickups, the preamps and effects the guitarrists are using. e.g. i'm playing a really shitty handwired onechannel british tube amp, but in combination with my gsp 1101 preamp it makes your balls rotate.
@schnubbilator hmm. Well sir, i have orange crush 12l amp, digitech death metal pedal,my guitar have custom made humbucker pickups made mainly for dropped shit...But im not getting the sound...i dont know. do i really need just preamp? another pedal? new amp? i would like the sound of death metal. or the kind of sound amon amarth has... my brain hurts soo much, and i cant spend cash ignorantly like i have before... :(
the main riff for this piece was made to show the power of the 5150! you are playing the most kickass metal out there man, good work, and I must also say, great taste in amps!
dude ur stuff is amazing! its good to know we have real metalheads out there.. reminds me of lamb of god.. im sure u were influenced by them a little??
Ola ..simply fantastic I just get one 5150 head, awesome!, Some questions: Are you using Clean OD in front of the amp? wich one? Are you using a Noise supressor? if yes ,it is on the loop or in front, what kind of NS? Thanks a lot, keep it up METAL FUCKING RULES!!!
@MrHanfmann Meinst du, guck dir die anderen Videos vom ihm an . . . entweder der Leuchte ist kaputt. . . oder sie. . . MAN SIE IST KAPUTT . . . und wenns dir nicht gefällt gucks dir nicht an!

I'm surprised at how much hate the 5150/6505 get. These amps are on a ton of metal albums and sound great. I think its mostly "gear snobbery", but that gets old quick. This clip sounds great and the music is awesome. Metal.

@jani14jani For that budget you should look at used amps. Most likely Peaveys or others. If you are locked on a new one, check the Peavey Valveking or Bugera Amps out. They have Peavey 6505(Bugera 6260 also a test video here from Ola) and Peavey XXX(Bugera 333) clones of good quality and the just brought out a Triple Rectifier clone for 558€. That one also has a in built attenuator, so you can scale the power stage from 100-1 Watt. Hope it helps also Google is your Friend!
set your amp how YOU like it not what the masses are telling you or doing. I like my mids on ZERO and treble on 10 on certain amps and TS to those who say shame on me ! If it sounds good to ME, I'm doing it ! ROCK ON BROTHER (.Y.)
@173guitarman I agree but....Mids on 0.....? lol...From experience what sounds good when playing alone does not sound good in band...my advice...lots of mids...cut through sounds nice.
@metallica5252 Why do you think MY tone is $#it ? Because that's what works for YOU ?? You have never heard my sound and have NO idea what I'm using (pedals~tubes~amp~guitar) so it's your comment that's $#it.
@ghost500e I agree but I sure got alot of hate comments by what I said ? Even had one boner~surfer say my tone must be $#it without knowing what amp or guitar or pickups I was using ? If it sounds good to you, DO IT ! and piss on everyone who bashes YOUR likings, its my ears. Plus I got to hear this dude play again while writing this comment ! HAAA ! Rock~On
First off great song! Good job on the mix. May I ask what your guitar chain is for this song? It sounds incredible. Im a novice recording engineer and have recently started worked with a few metal bands. I've attempted to achieve a tone similar to this and it seems like the 5150 & 6505 are key. But as far as technique and processing go would you mind sharing on what you do to make it sound so, for lack of a better word, in your face or heavy? Any tips would surely be appreciated thanks
every time i watch this video my kids start dancing around the room.. 8 yrs old and 1 yr.. they have good taste in music. If you get a chance could you list the settings on the peavey for me and is there any box wacking the front end to get the tone? thanks
Lol so I want EVERYONE to disregard my last statement. That was an example of me talking out of my ass. So I just tried these settings that feard has on this amp, and HOLY SHIT!!! Never again will I scoop mids. Ahaha it gives me this nice almost snapping palm mute. I love it. But I won't tell you not to scoop your mids. If you like that sound then by all means have at it. =). Just don't do what I did. Don't post on something and make yourself look like an ass without experimenting first. =)
@fallen2441 Nothing wrong with scooping mids, scooping A LOT can get you drowned out. Finding the perfect balance is the key... to a healthy life on planet Ola-1.
@fearedse I usually scoop SOME mids when doing OVERALL mastering to clear out that somewhat hollow sound. But as far as my guitar tone my mids are just about all the way up (i use 5150 as well)
@fallen2441 As he said, nothing wrong with scooping mids for bedroom use, gets a nice heavy boomy tone when you're playing by yourself, but when it comes to LIVE, yeah, crank dem mids.
I don't get why some people are always saying "don't scoop the mids". I prefer the low at about 7, mids at about 2, and highs at about 5. Mids to me make it sound more digital. Just saying.
@fallen2441 nonsense. mids will make your tone much more cutting, listenable, and especially raw. scooped sounds fun when you're playing alone, but in a good mix, there's no need for cutting out the best part of your guitar sound. the bass is taken care of by the bassist anyway.
seriously, my 5150 settings were bass 4, mid 7.5, highs 6. much crisper in the band mix.
imo, scoop sounds a lot more digital, like cheap transistor amps.
@ez45 Boost the mids before the gain, then drop them after, that is what a lot of the best recordings have done, including some of Metallica's best recorded tones. The moderately scooped tone on this video which is obviously recorded sounds sick, but it's not overdone with eq, just right. I agree with you more in a live situation more mids and let the bass player take care of the lows.
@weseyedwalk Yes yes, for a recorded sound it may be pretty good - when slightly scooped. But a typical 9/3/9 setting will only sound dull and empty, very unnatural.
For live settings, push the mids to the max. It's where the Peavey gets *really* brilliant.
Just wanna point out why his tone makes this amp shine. Most metal fags tend to miss this part. Check his EQ, you know. with his lows nice and low, his mids up at 7, (Not 5 or less kiddies, these are REALLY IMPORTANT!) And his highs at 7.
@guitar602991 my friend just recently got one sounds bad ass not going to lie but with this amp your gonna want to put ur gain realy high and you dont need to becuase with tubes it will sound to mushy just buy a ibanez ts9 tubescreamer and boost it with your gain around 4 or 5 whereever you prefer and you will be set with a heavy ass sound my friend ;)
@illusiontoreality. He's right, a well delivered cock slap will prevent most from using distortion pedal's in front of great amps. I've had to do this on occasion and it's worked like a champ every time.
u know i really am a noob at the guitare so what really would help me to get some skill woulb be if i could see what you do with your left hand, not to copy but to get some ideas...
greetings and keep up the great work you really rule
That amp is so Sexual.

@fearedse
I think that peavey 6505 sounds a bit better than that 5150 ,I mean the tone is a bit sharper
PossesedbyBlackMetal 10 months ago
@fearedse I usually scoop SOME mids when doing OVERALL mastering to clear out that somewhat hollow sound. But as far as my guitar tone my mids are just about all the way up (i use 5150 as well)
mikevmpr3 5 months ago
@fallen2441 nothing like the Peavey's raw lower-mid tones.
ez45 10 months ago
@fallen2441 the mids on a 5150 is where the growl lies...\m/
blackplague991 8 months ago
@fallen2441 Were you really talking about scooping mids on a 5150? ha. Scoop mids on a recto not really on a 5150
DigitalVirus 8 months ago
@fallen2441 As he said, nothing wrong with scooping mids for bedroom use, gets a nice heavy boomy tone when you're playing by yourself, but when it comes to LIVE, yeah, crank dem mids.
tango616 8 months ago
@fallen2441 well dude, atleast you can admit you were wrong, unlike other douches >_> (:

I don't get why some people are always saying "don't scoop the mids". I prefer the low at about 7, mids at about 2, and highs at about 5. Mids to me make it sound more digital. Just saying.
fallen2441 10 months ago
@fallen2441 nonsense. mids will make your tone much more cutting, listenable, and especially raw. scooped sounds fun when you're playing alone, but in a good mix, there's no need for cutting out the best part of your guitar sound. the bass is taken care of by the bassist anyway.
seriously, my 5150 settings were bass 4, mid 7.5, highs 6. much crisper in the band mix.
imo, scoop sounds a lot more digital, like cheap transistor amps.
ez45 10 months ago
@ez45 Boost the mids before the gain, then drop them after, that is what a lot of the best recordings have done, including some of Metallica's best recorded tones. The moderately scooped tone on this video which is obviously recorded sounds sick, but it's not overdone with eq, just right. I agree with you more in a live situation more mids and let the bass player take care of the lows.
weseyedwalk 10 months ago
@weseyedwalk Yes yes, for a recorded sound it may be pretty good - when slightly scooped. But a typical 9/3/9 setting will only sound dull and empty, very unnatural.
For live settings, push the mids to the max. It's where the Peavey gets *really* brilliant.

i still like the 5150 tone the best, would\nt trade my old combo for any other amp

@DrEviscerator666 Nah that's another swede :)

Just wanna point out why his tone makes this amp shine. Most metal fags tend to miss this part. Check his EQ, you know. with his lows nice and low, his mids up at 7, (Not 5 or less kiddies, these are REALLY IMPORTANT!) And his highs at 7.
Good video.

@CasualDiscussion guitar is a mid range instrument, still confused y people still scoop their mids
flamey088 10 months ago
would you prefer this over the 6505+? i just want a more gain amp and didnt know which one to choose
jmichael585 11 months ago
@jmichael585 did you buy the 6505 + how epic is the sound ? cause i want to buy it myself but the guitar center almost never has it to test it out
guitar602991 11 months ago
@guitar602991 my friend just recently got one sounds bad ass not going to lie but with this amp your gonna want to put ur gain realy high and you dont need to becuase with tubes it will sound to mushy just buy a ibanez ts9 tubescreamer and boost it with your gain around 4 or 5 whereever you prefer and you will be set with a heavy ass sound my friend ;)

@illusiontoreality. He's right, a well delivered cock slap will prevent most from using distortion pedal's in front of great amps. I've had to do this on occasion and it's worked like a champ every time.
