  • why the fuck there's a dislike button on this vid?... aaaaaaaaah -3 -3 -3 13 people don't have pale blue eyes

  • Speechless !

  • This is Pete being classy.

Lou Reed had publicly mocked and belittled Townshend. And here's Townshend, inviting Reed to play with him, let the ____ have the spotlight.

  • Two more miserable old codgers you'd be hard-pressed to find. And, I might add, a great joy to listen to.

  • @Lasher500 one old codger, shirley?

  • Oh....to be in that pub that night.

  • epico

  • Lou Reed is the reason i quit smoking and Pete Townshend was the reason why i always wear earplugs when i play my guitar. They are also the reason why i write song and play the guitar.

  • historica reunión

  • I remember reading in the book Rock Quotes that Lou called Pete "a talentless f#ck" back in the early 70's. Good to know Pete doesn't hold a grudge.

  • @dannygreen1964 lou musta been off his nut to say that..

  • People who dislike this video aren't ignorant. That's silly.

  • this is grace...

  • thanks for posting this....

  • lou reed was the most innovative songwriter of the 60s and 70s... two decades bitch!

  • So there are 11 people who are almost to ignorant to breathe.

  • @fool1977 I know! Can ya believe 11 people can't appreciate the Great songwriting talent in these 2 guys? Oh how I wish I would have been in the pup that night.

  • De historia. :)

  • the man's been a long time smoker don't forget

  • His voice is not that good anymore ...

  • AWESOME!

  • believed to be the first time these two played together - probably isn't, but nobody remebers - not because it wasn't legendary... :D

  • Vamos los abus canejo!

  • This is pretty fucking epic. Thank you!

  • they should do a medley called Behind Pale Blue Eyes

  • I would give my left testicle to be half as good as either of these guys!

    Fuckin' Amazing!

  • Very tasteful major seventh embellishment by mr. Townsend on an otherwise not outstanding performance.

  • Lou seems so... at peace.. and humbled by the world that surrounds him... it's so inspiring and heartwarming!

    Wow.

  • if yoyr spanish ass cant read english dont bitch about our royalty..cukaracha cuckaracha...learn a new tune

  • @jaydee123xyz and maybe you could learn some geography and nationalities: the song "La Cucaracha" is from Mexico and spanish people usually come from...mmm let me think...Spain?

btw,if his "spanish ass" CAN'T READ ENGLISH...do you really think he'll get the message that you wrote...in ENGLISH?

  • @jaydee123xyz If you're going to bitch about reading English maybe you should learn to spell in English , unless of course you dont mind looking the cunt.Just a thought

  • It is about what the singer sees as a waste of two lives.

The good times that were had were happy because the 2 people were together always. The singer would do it again despite knowing that it would end wastefully. The singer is lamenting

what has gone and is entreating the subject to do it once again too - the singer is very much not over the romance.

The sin is that these two people have left each other and can not meet as they did before. That they have lost each other.

  • Wish I was in that Pub that night.

  • Great songwriters both

  • my god two legends...thats very coooooooool...

  • two gods

  • pieceoshit yr an idiot

  • Esta canción puso lágrimas en mis ojos, es demasiado bella

  • Hauntingly Beautiful!

  • It's a real pleasure (for me, an old guy)

to see these gracefully aging wrinklies

    breathe so gently

    to keep the flame alive

  • @metapenguin1 well spoken my friend... They're a long way from done...

  • @metapenguin1 I wouldn't call either "old" or "aging", they're timeless. There are musicians less than half their age who can't even come close to matching their talents.

  • @hanscarter

You mean there's musicians with half as much of experience as them that can't match their talents??? Well that's not surprising. I'd except a guy that's played a game for 20 years to be better than a guy that's played it for 10 years. Not saying these guys aren't talented, just that your statement is rather pointless.

  • @metapenguin1 Pete Townshend has become Larry David.

  • Two of the best songwriters ever .. together .. awesome

  • You got that right! Definitely 2 of the best songwriters...

  • @philwear Massive fan of these two. But that title goes to Mr. Dylan and Mr. McCartney.

  • tears to my eyes. Hope these two record in the future....

  • this is the greatest ever... I wish I could have seen them together... it is just wonderful.

  • Holy Shit!!

  • Heartache and misery...and I love it. This is pure love...

  • Great my heros love it

  • ótima,bela música!!!

  • Lou and Pete.

Ignore the wankers on this site..

You guys are just great... Im sure you know this but I just want to say this for myself..Im glad you dont repeat your truely awesome songs verbatim as some people do. It shows the strength of your underlying music and lyrics.. You will live far past your flesh date for sure and you are the backbone of civilisation that keeps me from topping myself when I hear britney spears et al.

Keep it up. You are fanstastic

    Ta

    Glenn.

  • I'm sure that Lou and Pete read this and are deeply moved.

  • cjp262, me too

  • My two favorites, Lou and The Who, together at last :-D

  • god this is depressing. i dont want to get old

  • You mean you don't want to get old after doing heroin for a long time.

  • What other way to get old is there?

  • There are different ways to grow old. How bad (or good ) it turns out depends on what you do now. But I understand the fear of course.

  • This is one of Lou's best songs. Or, at least, one of my favorites.

  • truly is, simply beautiful

  • Cool, Pete's been jamming with EVERYONE lately.

    Love ya Pete.

  • Sweet! Sweet! Sweet!

  • I love that they did Velvet Underground era songs, god I love that band.

But it would have been rad to here satallite of love, or caroline says 2. But, then again, how can I ask for more with this?

  • Two Masters. My God what more can you want?

    The song; A Masterpiece!

  • I love how someone shares a truly excellent video like this (or any of the awesome bootleg vids on YouTube) and everyone who comments can only argue about which of the artists is superior. What is everyone's obsession with ranking talent? Isn't enough that both these men were groundbreaking in their own way without comparing two incomparable people? Enjoy it for what it is.

  • you shot the target (or whatever you say say for "being right" in English)

  • I agree with mainman99987! Just enjoy the song as these two sung it on that special day.Anyone who isn't touched by the emotion in their voices just doesn't get it!

  • Fuck everybody's internet animosity. Why not just enjoy this rendition of an amazing song (that is amplified by the fact that these guys have had decades more of life to 'feel' what they are singing about?)

  • Get a grip people! Reed was good but who in their right minds could possibly compare him to Townshend? Townshend owns him as a songwriter, guitarist, lyricist and an artist. And no one who has ever listened to something like 'Quadrophenia' in its entirety could dispute that. Just read the fucking Libretto of Quadrophenia. It would be good enough on its own without the music but the music is just as good.

  • Not that I'm saying Townshend is bad, but have you ever heard of Velvet Underground and Nico?

  • Of course I've heard of The VU. I own every one of their albums, just as I own every album by The Who or Pete Townshend. I wouldn't be making a judgement if I didn't. The VU have some great music but the whole Andy Warhol association makes it a lot more popular than it deserves to be.

  • Why are people arguing about great musicians? It's as if you were arguing colors. In reality they are the same but the have different styles.

  • Both Townsend and Reed did not embrace the hippie culture, that is well known. Now, I do not care to venture how many Who and Velvet fans care for the Grateful Dead, and the rest of the hippie culture, but it is damn funny how deadheads appreciate all if it... Linger on everyone.

  • what year did the Velvets start making records? before 'my generation','anywayAnyhow, anywhere'? No, he's an old cunt that HATED Woodstock & hated hippies & hippy bands like the Beatles, said so in interviews as far back as 1966('A whole scene going' UK TV)And Redd is fucking painfull to listen to,as bad a Dylan.

  • quote from Lou about townshend"He is so talentless, and as a lyricist he's so profoundly untalented and philosophically boring to say the least".Lou's right but he's also a cunt for then working with him and churning out this emetic dog snot

  • Compared to Lou Reed Townshend is a talentless songwriter & philosophically boring ? HAHAHA . yeah right Lou , keep dreaming luv.

  • Jesus behind blue eyes & pale blue eyes jury's out

  • Now, this is a piece of damn history.

  • Both of these men are brilliant in very different ways, but they appear to be in good company together

  • townshend wasn't a hippie, and you wouldn't have lou reed if it wasn't for the who's early albums

  • additionally, it should be said that Townshend is every bit "punk" as Reed is. Townshend has never been a flower power hippie. Listen to his music. Much more cynical and realistic than your typical hippie. And smashing a Rickenbacker after a loud-ass rock show is pretty punk too!

  • Your right deniroinmeanstreets ,at least YOU know some of the facts about Townshend. Oh yeah, and at least Townshend can sing.

  • hey morbid orphan...either you are too young or too old :-)

  • 3 luglio.. perdersi nei tuoi occhi Ale.

Qualche volta mi sento così felice, qualche volta mi sento così triste, qualche volta mi sento così bene... ma di solito mi fai impazzire tesoro : ) ... mi fai proprio impazzire e io, io mi soffermo sui tuoi occhi blu...Se potessi rendere il mondo puro e strano come lo vedo io ti metterei dentro uno specchio davanti a me..e poi mi soffermo ancora, sempre, sui tuoi occhi blu... sui tuoi occhi blu...

  • as a guitarist lou reed is workmanlike. as a writer he is superb.

  • OooOoohhhh!!

  • Sweet Jesus....I wonder how many people just passed out in the crowd because of the epicness?

  • when/where was this???????? SWEET JEBUS, THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Powerful delivery.....two of the most talented songwriters.

  • Its GREAT how they both - try and pick it up,coming out of their verse...ay..Thanks for this....

  • Lovely Version. Lou has me in tears with this performance!

  • just an absolutely beautiful, SOULFUL rendition of a truly

great song. reed's voice is an amazing instrument......btw he's

not a pop singer. this isn't "pop music". you either get it or

you don't. me, i think it's pure genuis,. and what a unique

    collaboration! stunning. loved it!!

  • Thanks for posting this...it was great! These are two of my heros. I thought that their contrasting styles, and the obvious tension, made for an intriguing listen. It makes me wonder "what if" Townshend had been paired with someone (in The Who) whose writing ability was on par with his own. In that case he might not have felt compelled to break it up...

  • What made Lou Reed special was his somewhat detached vocal delivery to powerfull emotionally charged lyrics..Berlin, a great example..whenever someone tries to sing sing sing the songs they always lose their impact..this isn't American Idol..and this version suffers from the vocal whine...nothing compared to the original VU verision..just talk it Lou, it'll work itself out.

  • end of an era - you people born after 1970 - define yourselves, make your own music - change is now, you are it -

  • thats one of the best comments ive ever seen on youtube

  • Two heroes of music.

  • that's crazy

  • er...that was for waitin' for the man

  • Holy shit where is this Joe's pub? How were they able to book these guys. I agree they r kinda washed up but still it's Reed and Townshend! Wish I was there!

  • beautiful lyrics and this guys have style

  • This is one of Lou's best songs. Or, at least, one of my favorites.

  • A real treat, spite the somewhat clichéd remolding of the song. Guess the pub's to blame for that.

  • Don't buy Mistrail, its awful.I don't recommend Twilight either...Drella is sheer beauty though

  • Beautiful lyrics, one of his best.

  • whats with the zooming in on the water bottle?

  • this is bloody awesome dude

  • wow!!! that made me cry

  • this song makes me cry :'(

  • This is absolutely amazing. Its too bad they didnt play together earlier in their careers...a wonderful relationship could've been formed. I think there vocal and guitar playing styles go great together....imagine a Lou Reed/Townshend studio release!!!

  • Two of the grumpiest men in rock share a stage... just great!

  • It's weird, Lou Reed isn't actually a great singer or musician as such, but he's a great writer and character. But what's this about Townshend..?

  • ignorant bullshit you're talkin buddy, listen to some of lou reeds MUSIC!

  • Whoah calm down, sounded worse than it is- I'm a fan of Reed's, and am simply saying that his technicality in musician ship is limited in comparison to his writing. He made occasionaly singing off key listenable, and that's an achievment.

  • I get what you're going after, but saying lou reed is not a great musician is a plain insult. even if you did not mean it like that. when i said listen to his music i meant it, check it out! he is a world-class rock musician.

  • I guess so. But put on Transformer- even better if you have the edtion with him playing acoustic tracks of Perfect Day and Hangin 'Round. David Bowie really added a great touch to that album, but anyway I'm only judging by what I've heard so it's hard to tell where Reed's touch is put on the songs' arrangements etc. Any suggestions on albums to give a listen to where he's at the forefront of this sort of thing?

  • new york is a classic if thats what u mean. try belrin too its his best :)

  • Cool yeah I've heard Berlin's great, he's touring with a live show of that album at the moment I think

  • Hey Samster23, yeah, "Street Hassle", " Take No Prisoners", " Set the twilght Reeling" , "Animal Serenade", "Mistrial", "Songs for Drella" . You can Never count a guy like Reed out, the Man isn't a legend for nothing! As a side note, take into account the year these albums came out, as they are very context driven.

  • Pete is best!!!

  • WOW! Its about time that two of the most interesting songwriters jam together. Wish I was there, thank you!

  • this is wonderful
