  • Grande Julio !!!!

    NEGROYPERRO

  • 11 personas no saben bailar

  • Great dancer, to be sure; but I have to say I much prefer Carlos Acosta. Just a matter of personal taste. Their both extraordinary in their own way. Thanks for posting.

  • Yeah right, only spent 35 years as a pro but don't know a thing!

  • Best don Quixote of the history? What does that mean? By the way, the video is terrible and that gaucho is a horrible dancer. The best EVER was Nureyev and any Russian dancer.

  • Sorry, but this video is too blurry to tell if he's that great...

  • @znarf541 Agree!!!

  • @znarf541 His name is world known. He is one of the top dancers of all time. He is that great.

  • The most exciting brilliant dancer of his time and now! No replacement!

  • absolutely fantastic!!!

  • I love him... but I think that Nureyev is better. Your technically is more clean and controled.... I don´t speak english very well, I´m sorry -_-

  • Absoloute Perfection! <3

  • Slightly off tempo here but exuberant and a joy to watch!

  • INCREIBLE!!!!!!

  • I didn't like his basil variation. Leonid sarafanov does it better.

  • Words can not do due respect to the ability of this fabulous dancer. He is amazing and such a joy to watch. He is marvelous in every role he dances. Love to watch his spins and leaps. Certainly one of the best.

  • wooooooooow

  • WTF, what happend to the camera

  • WTF???!! BRASILL????!

  • great dancer but what a faggot!

  • @akiyele he wasn't that great, plus, that faggot is horrible looking

  • Damnawesome piruetes at the end of the video !

    Best Basil Evere !

  • Not as good as Carlos in Houston...Believe that!!! Reconsider that best ever in the history of Don Quixotes...

  • Yes, Sir!

    I love those piruetas Quixotescas!

  • is that the culture , whistling , shouting and screaming in an Opera house ........wow !!! thanks for the enlightment. Anyhow ,my final thought on this subject is that there are many Dansuers that are equal or even better than Acosta , my opinion

  • and western audiences dont scream bravo???

sorry that they feel passionate about their ballet and express their emotion.when the royal ballet toured there last year, the dancers were completely taken up by the peoples passion for ballet, its as big as football is in europe.dont think youre better then them just because you believe in a certain pompous way of acting,if it werent for europeans bringing "civilization" to the americas, you would most probably be acting the exact same way

  • @urranuss your ranting !!!! but what you are saying is that eupropeans are bringing civilization to Cuba? hmmm . Such an annoying audience , have to turn the volume off when I watch thier dancers perform on YB. They only go to the ballet to see , jumps and turns screaming and shouting after every execution And ballet is not football , whats next popcorn

  • who ever said ballet was football? dont put words in m mouth

your pompous attitude is one of the reasons why people dont go to the opera houses cause of all the pretentious crap

ballet is an art form made to entertain and make people feel something, you find loud audiences everywhere in the world,,not just in cuba,i know this from touring.i guess you havent witnessed a live curtain call in covent garden for acosta.just listen to the audience scream in the video clip for boca.

  • better of Argentine

  • I don't think this is the "BEST" ever -- Daniil Simkin has the best variation and the other thing is that he can actually pull it off.

  • simkin can be sold as a sleeping pill

  • simkin is certainly amazing, his 7/8 pirouettes, finishing on releve are just unbelieveable!

though i(and i guess most people agree with me) find boccas interpretation of basilio way more exciting, because of all the passion and emotion he puts into all he's doing and appart from that his pirouettes and jumps are freeking amazing too!

  • @666bliv999 daniil simkin is too young , his technique is quiet perfect... maybe in a few years we will se him better than julio! =)

  • 1:24 triple tour

  • Urranus only watches ballet videos with his carlos acosta rose tinted glass's . What can you expect, when he also thinks his criticisms is the golden stamp of ballet approval .

  • more like the royal stamp of approval

whats wrong with comparing dancers to arguably the greatest dancer of our generation?

  • @urranuss only a dancer who couldnt make it in ballet would think so highly of himself , Did you settle for modern ? there are many dancers of the past and present and up and coming that are better than acosta I like him but he never really convinces me as an actor, Never regal enough as a prince a little to ethnic for Hanz. Open your eyes and see , Also there are other DJs than Arman Van Helden ........

  • i was only joking you dumb fuck...of course theres is always young up and coming talent,a lot of of them through alicia allonso

at the end of the day our comments here are just opinions as long as i have one i will voice it.if you dont like it thats your problem, dont make it mine

and to answer your question, yes i danced for both classical and modern companies ( plural) acosta is great artist and very convincing in the roles he dances, probably the most rounded male dancer ive seen, like federer

  • @urranuss I figured you would insult with curse words ,Your personality shows in your opinions Your probably like the Cuban audiences that scream , whistle , shouts at a performance of swan lake,. classless, As a person of Hispanic background all I ever see coming out of cuba is ballet performed with "salsa" flair .

  • another ignorant judgmental comment. you accuse me of thinking highly of myself yet being hispanic yourself you make such an arrogant hypocritical comment

difference between me and you is that i comment on the dancing, you on the other hand seem to attack people for their heritage/culture...if anyones personality is showing through here its your own...

  • its also a pretty ignorant thing to assume dance companies are full of dancers who couldnt make it into a classical companies.i suggest you go see NTD or the forsythe company /frankfurt ballet

  • Settle for modern? Settle for something more dynamic? Something that is more true to the human body and spirit? Ask an overtrained ballet technician to dance modern, their bodies won't let them because of the training drilled into them and then when they age and can longer perform ballet they only relive their glory days by boasting and arguing on youtube. Great job there.

  • 2:37 WOW!

    TE AMO JULIOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • wow que ligero y que tales giros grande julio bocca

  • damn camera in the end :P

  • Woooooooow!!!! tanta ELEGANCIA Y PASION, INCREIBLE!!!!

  • Julio is the best Basil ever. Lucky enough to see him at ABT as well as Misha and Acosta. But Julio is hands down the most charasmatic and technically proficient dancer I have ever seen do the role. And for the critics...would love to see you do that.

  • the pirouette at the end looks incredible - is there a better copy of the video to see this?

  • Truly amazing though this is, watch Acosta, Nureyev and Baryshnikov for amazement++++ They are all even more outstanding.

  • potemkin!!!!

  • Aca estaba en su mejor epoca.

  • OMG im a ballet dancer and that is sooooo good!!!

  • Amazing! Julio Bocaa is the best!!!

  • no, mr.acosta is just boring, technically good, but boring...i´m soryy.

  • that has to be the biggest crock of shit ive ever heard,he is the most exciting male dancer to watch

easily the greatest of all time

  • wow here julio is really at his best

  • mee too agree with you but my friend urranus not too much

  • Julio is better, sorry

  • good dancer but he doesnt even make the classical line.his has knock knees and his legs never fully extended

  • In my opinion, Julio was and will be one of the best dancers ever.

  • urranus...technique is NOT the most important in ballet, what about passion? being graceful?(sorry for my english)

sometimes those things are the ones that make a dancer..A REAL DANCER like julio bocca

  • i agree with you there are several things that are vital to being a great performing artist, but in the world we live in today, you cannot dance without having a great technique and if youre a principle a brilliant technique

bocca was a brillaint dancer, there is now denying that but not the best ever

  • amazing

  • ...This is beyond words!.>!....WORK!!!!!!

  • He is fantastic!

  • wait a minute.. I saw the same wardrobe, the same scenography in baryshnikov version where he dance with cinthia harvey, isn't it? even the dancers looks like named version...

  • saw him dance this with a-b-t in the 1980s....he was the best basil...hands down...

  • wow! he really did a triple tour! hahaha

  • I agree, the best Basil that I have seen is Julio Bocca. This is what dancing is all about. Amazing! Inspiring! The best! He was born to dance this.

  • This was in Buenos Aires. And than public is the Bs As´ fantastic one. And Julio Bocca is.... to see him to believe it...

  • Amazing!!! I wish the last pirouette sequence was a better quality video because it is INCREDIBLE.

  • Was it like 11 turns??

  • I recounted I think it was 13 :)

  • thouse where 8...

  • mandamelo :)

  • look the triple tour at the 1:23

  • My goodness the variation at 2:16 is TASTY!!!!!!

    Julio - you're adorable! <3<3

  • I'm amazed... crying... everything. I've always loved Julio Bocca but could never see him dance live. If I'm not mistaken Nureyev himself said that Julio Bocca was the best ballet dancer in history... so I don't think that whoever is questioning his skills is right. Thanks for the amazing video. GRACIAS... SIMPLEMENTE GRACIAS!!!!

  • argentinos . .

  • Who do you think is better then?

  • Julio Bocca is a marvellous dancer:he is very natural and it seems that he improvises. But,nowadays,I think that Daniil Simkin is the best Don Quixote.

  • daniil simkin is good. ill give him that he has almost flawless technique but his expression and flare are NO WAY in comparison to julio bocca. ive watched all of daniils videos and know what im talking about. remember that technique is not what dancing is all about. imagery and expression and personality are big things that make up a good dancer and julio bocca seems to have both of these.

  • ill admit that the classic don q variation at the end was somewhat sloppy but the beginning of the video was excellent. does anyone know how old he is in this video?

  • What a thrilling dancer! Thank you for posting this.

  • te quiero ver a vos haciendo eso

  • l s l mejjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjooooooooor

  • What can I say...Perfection!!!

  • Ah! Y no es el mejor Don Q de la historia.

  • normal.

  • Rediculously, stupidly good.

  • He is the best so far......period

  • I wonder.. How can you people be so rude, how can you watch such a beautiful performance and be choosing the best basil, the best dancer? Can you actually choose one?

I mean I love misha, I love Vasiliev, I love Julio Bocca, nureyev, acosta, Kobborg...I couldn´t say wich one is better, it doesn´t bother me. What really matters is how beautiful is their dance, each different, each great!!

  • I totally hear what your saying. But I guess the person who posted this video said Julio Bocca is the "best" Don Q as a way of expressing his own oppinion. He likes Julio Bocca's choices, something about Bocca, he likes "Best". I feel the same way with Angel Corella and Le Corsaire. I don't belive Angel is the "best", but I like his le corsaire the most. May be the person who posted this video did not have the "best" wording, but the man has a right to an oppinion.

  • I agree with you in that there is no best. But sometimes I do count the goosebumps on my arms and god does Bocca make a lot of my hair stand up!

  • May be you are right. Let's say, one of the great dancers. Best regards

  • I understand what you're saying merlu, but I am guilty of saying that same thing sometimes. For example, to me Makarova was the greatest Odette, I would say the "best", and to a certain extent it could be objectively true. If it's possible to judge a dancer based purely on bravura dancing, then there might be a "best" like there is in athletics, but ballet isn't that narrow. Also you should know that when you see comments like "he's the best ever", you have to take in to account the person's age

  • and level of exposure to this art. Some of us have been so exposed to dance, and seen so many great dancers do different roles, that we have a different perspective. I think it's more innocent than rude, but it does get very tiresome.

  • He is simply the best one, ive seen other basils and no one compares to him..

the sound is not timed with the video, but anyway, thanks for uploading this

  • bestia

  • Baryshnikov is the best Basil ever.

  • What else can I say guys!Just that I did see his farewell show, yesterday December 22nd in Buenos Aires. It was exactly as blommastrass and lilacfairyballerina described it in the middle of our main boulevard. Three hundred thousand people watching him breathless and tearful.Undescribable! I just can say it was Julio-like sweet and warm and GREAT!

  • he realy uses his upper body to dance

    fantastic!

  • Julio is grait!

Do anybody know about Vladimir Vasiliev? The star of the Bolshoi Ballet?

    Nobody is better!!!

  • He hasnt retired yet!!!

His last performance will be on December 22th, in Buenos Aires. He'll stop traffic in the main street of the city and dance for free. Its gonna be great!

    You r all invited!

  • no one can really compare an artist to another..Nijinsky, Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Bocca are great artists in their own times...

  • I saw him for the first time in 1992 dancing Etude. He was just awesome. He had magnificent techniques and arrogant flair (in a wonderful way). Then I had good fortune to see some of his great performances of Don Q, Swan Lake, and Romeo. He is no doubt one of the best Basil.

  • Julio has Retired. He danced last week with

Nina Ananiashvili. They danced Swan Lake. They opened new Shakespeare Theater in Washington. Its was greatest performance.

    David Mamatsashvili

  • He is performing for the last time around the world, but his last performance will be on December 22th, in Buenos Aires. And like lilacfairyballerina mentioned it, he will stop traffic and perform for free. I saw him in the theater for the last time about a month ago too. I think it's been a while since I've cried like that, and I can tell you that there wasn't a tearless face to be seen.

  • Once again, he takes my breath away..

    .

  • He's awesome and also beautiful.... I'm proud that he's a latin artist.

  • He's the best ballet dancer in America. Great Argentinian dancer indeed. i would fly to Argentina again just to see his last show in December.

  • No he is not the best in history. He is very good, but he comes AFTER Misha. He is the champ, no one near him really.

  • This one is a toss up. Misha.. Julio..

.This is like comparing apples and oranges.

Both bring their own unqiue brilliance to the role!

  • oh my god, hes insane!!!!!!!!!!!!! love him

  • you are unbelievable!! Where did you find this, this must be about 20 years old, Cynthia Harvey left ABT in the early 90's!

    Thank you very much
