This guy is disappointed just because it's a 2d game.

1 the game's from the 90's don't expect awsome cinimatic clips, plus the the voice acting more than makes up for that most n64 games laked voice acting.

I'm a huge fan of the Castlevania series. My favorite by far has been CV1, CV4 (SNES), Symphony of the Night, and the recent Lords of Shadow. I happen to come across this dry, and almost smarmy review of one of my favorites. I must agree, the reviewer does come across as nubbish with little to no appreciation for this amazing side scroller.

The only disappointing thing is this review itself, which seems to be based mainly on the game's lack of 3D graphics. This game is 2D gameplay in perfection, combined with a great atmosphere, detailed graphics, an interesting storyline and an unforgettable soundtrack.

Usually, i don't bother with rage comments.
However, it's OUTRAGEOUS how this guy reviews a classic.
Not only he shows his lack of actual knowledge about the game system but he dares to say SOTN is DECENT! When it's AWESOME.
This game, opened a path for all the other Castlevanias to come, it's the grand daddy of Konami as we know it. (In regards to CV, anyway)

1 the game's from the 90's don't expect awsome cinimatic clips, plus the the voice acting more than makes up for that most n64 games laked voice acting.
2 most games of that era were side scrollers, to not side scroll would be like 3rd person COD

Nope, same old Castlevania, didn't progress the series one bit, and certainly didn't offer any new ideas or refine old ones to near perfection. All of the other CVs and so many games before SOTN combined Metroid-esque exploration with hack n slash and RPG influences. The graphics and animation clearly could have been better if they were done in typical jaggy and janky PSX era 3D.

Also, almost everything you said about this game, like "well-designed areas" and "side-scrolling action and unique RPG elements is unique and impressive" and "the different areas of Dracula's castle are unique and well-designed and in many cases, a sight to see" and "the artistry and detail is readily apparent, particularly in the backgrounds" and "the setting is very convincing." This is about half of the review. THOSE ARE ALL DESCRIPTIONS OF A GOOD GAME. YOU SAID ALMOST NOTHING BAD ABOUT IT.

Where is the realism in that? I mean.. when I extend my chain to go to work in the morning I'm definitely able to jump at the same time.. which reminds me, does anyone know where I can go to have my chain tuned. I'm a huge fan of the Castlevania series. My favorite by far has been CV1, CV4 (SNES), Symphony of the Night, and the recent Lords of Shadow. I happen to come across this dry, and almost smarmy review of one of my favorites. I must agree, the reviewer does come across as nubbish with little to no appreciation for this amazing side scroller.
The e-guitar intro alone was enough to convince me that this was going to be going to be a worthwhile experience.

I recently played the Xbox 360 re-release of SOTN (Konami Classics Vol. 1) and I didn't notice the "can't jump" until the swing is finished "complaint" that Woody is talking about. Should I rent it again or can someone let me know... did the original REALLY do what he says, and if so, did the re-release change that?
