  • I could do all this, or just buy a new charger and be safe :)

  • nice done, thank u

  • OKAY for everyone that thinks that you will have too much voltage going into the bulb - I HAVE THE SOLUTION!

    64 ohms resistor.

  • nice :)

  • HAHA, Household hacker just released a similar video.

  • How to turn old Cd into a lams and in the same time pollute the enviroonment . what do you think will happen to the lams when we get tired of it -it end up in the landfil where it continue doing harm to the environment.

    wwwenvironmentinfocuscom

  • if we done sth wrong with lamp, does it will explode our computer????

  • does it have to be 6v? can it be 1.5v?

  • @TheCoolLegoShow at least 5v and higher can't hurt but it'll be less bright over USB

Lower then 5v and you will fry the bulb

  • @Chirimorin1

Lower than 5 v fry the light bulb? Dude you need some lessons in electrics! If that is true, there should be no dimmer in the whole world! The only thing you can fry is the power output of the 5 volt USB port. A lightbulb use more milli amps than a LED. I would advise to use a LED instead of a lightbulb.

  • @FreerunMediaService I'm pretty sure if you connect a low voltage bulb to your wall socket (120V/230V depending on where you live) that the bulb will be dead rather then your fuses.

I don't see how the USB power gets fried from requiring a lower voltage (as the USB port stays around 5V)

A lightbulb requiring a low voltage can't be compared to a dimmer. A dimmer lowers the voltage while the bulb won't.

Either you understood me wrong, or you are the one needing a lesson in electronics.

  • @Chirimorin1

    Ok for the record:

A lightbulb requiring less than 5 volts can't be connected to a USB port. 5 volts and up can be connected allthough you need to keep in mind that the lightbulb use more amps (mA) so your USB port can be damaged.

Than there is a difference between USB 1 and 2. USB 1 can't support a USB powerd drive unless a powersupply is connected to the hard drive. This means it can't hanlde much mA. USB2 can provide up to a maximum of 500 mA. Use LED instead of a bulb.

  • @FreerunMediaService it can be connected, nothing stops you. But it'll break most likely.

Anything over 5V will just be less bright rather then fry your USB port. (worst case your computer will detect a short in the port and shut it off. I've had that before)

  • lol genius!!!!

  • Ill wait for my Hello Kitty Usb lamp.

  • BEOGRAD NAVIJA ZA DINAMO!

  • That's awesome dude!

  • interesting..?

  • why did i use my black ops cd for it

  • @ihackforareason CUZ BLACK OPS IS BORING?.. DUUHH

  • Lol

  • You didnt turn old cds int the lamp. You just used for decoration and to reflact and increase the light as all torches do.

Go make something useful and then upload it.

  • Cool man!

  • call a fireman!!

  • bulb? don't be prehistoric ;) use LEDs - they will not kill your laptop's battery as soon as bulb...

  • MacGyver lives!

  • thnks i made it for my 6 yr old daugter....it was easy for her to understand too!

  • thats awesome

  • make more of these things.

  • Yeey, it works! =D get a life...

  • Thats pretty sick :D

  • cool

  • CHEAP!!

  • im just wondering what would happen if the usb goes short circuit?

  • pretty cool!

  • Maybe a dual layer DVD is 2x brighter hahahaha! Anyway nice innovation.

  • Apply for a PATENT! peace

  • what things i need?

  • haha. nice idea!

  • hey watch it... he is lighting a filament bulb off the usb... the filamnet bulb may draw more current than the USB port can supply. I would use a Led and limit current to 100mA

  • it's nice. congratulations.

  • that is SOO COOL! if i knew how to do this stuff i totally would

  • i would have laughed my ass off if it exploded when he plugged it into the comuputer

  • You can even ad more light.

If you glue the inside of the lamp-shade with aluniumfoil...

  • @DjZiggy2 I need to try that :)

  • Clever ;)

  • Awesome very very clever i rate 5* your really clever god your awesome im subscribing

  • how many v and w does usb give?

  • 5 volts and about 1 amp = 5 watts

  • @jvcrules thanks

  • Nice work bro, keep it up

  • whats the lil orange peice?

  • @jakeman552 I know this is super old, but the little orange piece holds the wires from the lightbulb and the usb cable together. You pretty much put each wire under the screw and tighten the screws to hold the wires in place. It's easier and more secure than soldering and taping em with electrical tape.

  • i might try that on my sister's nysnc cd collection

  • @simonsex good idea

  • looks like a federal model 5 siren

  • thats cool

  • I'm sure instead of using USB u can use a battery. Might not be as bright but if u put 2 batteries together like legos it will produce more volts and make the light brighter. Or you can use USB.

  • interesting.. may try this

  • nice!!! ^_^

  • really cool =]

  • Amazing !!!!

  • stylish

  • first of all use tracing paper and use a 5v bulb as usb sockets give out 5v, ad make a cone out of cd's ging upwards at about 10-20 degrees or just use some foil.

  • mmmm i dont think im going to do it

but at the end i like no matre if i try to make 1 like it or no

  • no sound?

  • well this would work very well but the few flaws i see are you waste two cds you waste a usb and when your led dies witch would take a while but it would happen you would have to make a new one...

  • Well, I think the idea here is to use those old, scratched and worthless CD's. Common sense would tell you that you don't use a GOOD one, unless it's some music that you hate. And don't LED's last a pretty long time?

  • obviously if the CD's are damaged/scratched up, or useless CD's that he/she doesn't listen too... it's not wasteful, it's recycling. As for USB cable... you can get them down at the dollar store, for a buck each.

  • @TimNP61278 or use a cable from broken mouse

  • is this safe?

  • can i say something... it would be more nice if u replace the bulb with variant color of LEDs...first....detect the +ve and -ve terminal coming out from the usb wire.... and attach it to the LEDs in parallel way of course mount it to The CD like video show... im only suggesting...anyone can try it.. but me to lazy to solder :P

  • Doesn't look like it makes much light.

  • but its ugly :(

  • That's pretty kickass.

  • that's what budget cuts do to you

  • Lol! Ahh, that makes me giggle....

  • that's cool, i think i am going to try and create a alternating brightness, usb led light, :)

  • cool ;)

  • how adorable ^^ :D

  • just right height for keyboard illumination.

  • lol

  • lmfao @lampshade

  • RONÁUDU!

  • I've used leds and an old lithium battery with an usb cable to do something similar...

    Good idea!

  • I tried this, but my bedroom caught fire. They say they are not going to cover the damage. This is not cool!

  • OH MY GOD, did you make this yourself.....

    Yeh

  • nice, i wonder what you would have to do when the bulb goes out...

  • Desolder, I guess.

  • Now, that is just AWESOME nigger shit for the ghetto!

  • Neat lol

  • that was really creative an SO awesome

  • brilliant idea. creative.

  • i prefer a usb fridge!

  • cool, but ugly :/

  • so cool.

  • be careful with this you might get a message about a power surge on your usb port and then you will have to reset it.

  • sweet.

  • so i can just take any lights and stick it to an usb cable?

  • thats pretty sweet!

  • 0:12

  • oooh... what's the orange thing @ 0:19 ? that's quite handy :)) thanks

  • Lol you dont know what that is? i dont know how its called in english but in dutch its called a "kroon steen" Lol.

  • the English word should be terminal clip or insulating screw joint.

  • Ok thanks.

  • In German we call it "Lüsterklemme" ... the English word should be terminal clip or insulating screw joint.

You just open the screws, put the open wire in and screw down ... do the same on the other side ... the easiest way to connect two cables together ;o)

  • :D thank you :))

  • nice as long as it doesnt burn the house down....

  • nice.

  • fakeeee

  • why it is fake?

  • LOL jhanusproject, what's fake about it? Do you know anything about electricity? The USB port is also supporting your passive USB devices with power.

He just can't use the lamp as a plug'n play thing but he can use the power to use a light. Pretty simple.

  • Believe what you want ... but you definately don't seem to know anything about electricity or the USB port as well.

To close an electric circuit with the light bulb all you need is power (+, red) and mass (-, black). Since the USB plug is always under power as it also supplies power to your passive USB devices (e.g. webcam, memory sticks) so it works perfect.

You can't control the light bulb from Windows as it is no PnP device with a chip. So plug in light's on, plug out the light's off

  • Since you were so, how should I say polite and have a brain, contrary to majority of youtube nation(99.99%).

It was a joke... and USB is not 'that' simple, because it can only supply 100mA, or trough process of enumeration max 500mA, which is impossible in this case because it can't communicate with PC.

    Anyways, just fun, bye.

  • he was having a joke battlefeilddoktor

  • thats awesome!

  • Excellent, very nice

  • cool!

  • nearly cool theres gotta be a better idea than a light to plug into it though?!?

  • cool

  • {{{continued from my other post}}} that has watched and commented, want an explanation, then send me a message on youtube, or email me, id be glad to explain it to you(not sarcasm).

Thanks, and this goes for any other vids where you want to post where you DON'T know!!!

  • It really annoys me that people think this is fake, but I have realized that those people are knowledgeable on electronics at all, or at least to the point that i am at.

    so, if you don't know, then shut up, cause I think im a little smarter with computers and electronics than some soccer mom, or executive {{{TBC in my next post}}}

  • Doesnt take a brain to figure out that the red and black wires act as positive and negative terminals..

  • go to walmart or ebay and buy one its better

  • WTF????

Do u think we do have too many usb port???

Anyway the time you spent and money for it, better go to Argos or pound shop and buy a lamp that will shine 100 time more and for cheaper.....Get a life!

  • does it destroy your comp?

  • LOL

GO and damage your USB and/or your mother board...

  • 5v is not enough to destroy either!

  • right when i looked at the stuff i needed i was like "ok lets try something a littles easier" lol

  • its gonna work with a 2.4v light bulb ?

or the 2.4v lamp gonna melt ?

  • yep.usb puts out 5v; if you have 2 of those, you can connect them together(connect the postive end of one bulb to the negative end of the other, and the remaining ends to the usb)

  • damn, hope u dont have to reformat ur computer, u just ruined ur sound blaster driver cd :P

  • wow a use for useless cd other then putting them in a microwave :P

  • nice

  • That's really cool!

  • i figured out that u can make a lampshade with a picture showing :P just print or draw a picture of something in the circle and when the light's turned onit shows up. Enjoy!

  • oh and put the side with the picture on the inside. if it got text on it you might have to reverse the pic. NOW you can enjoy!

  • pretty nice ^^

  • I LOVE IT.

  • thatz cool

  • omg ghetto

  • can u show me how to make a usb lava lamp?

  • how do you call the orange thing?

  • nice im gonna make 1 right NOW! lol

any idea were i can "steal" a 6v bulb from??

and lol at the guy saying fake LOL!!!

and your very creative thanx for the idea :D

you should copy wright this shit lol

  • FAKE!!!!

YEAH!! THAT'S FAKE MAN! no doubt about it! probably you will create an electro-magnetic bomb with that... but not a lamp!! NEVER! geee!.... who would believe that?

lol, tell me when you get it :P

  • are you a MORON, that is impossible to do with a 6V light bulb, and a 5V USB port, I'd seriously think about knowing your stuff before saying something that is 1 not possibly, and 2 a completely STUPID statement, send me a message on youtube if you would like to continue this, or if you would like to learn how a light bulb works

  • Um, it's possible. However, the full 6v will be slightly brighter than 5v.

  • this was supposed to be a reply to GouAlex

  • if the ohms of the 6v light bulb dont exceed the 5v source it will work

  • yeah you right im a niga so what white boy i may be stupid but i aint a white boy

  • wtf un white]

  • :P I was being ironic and joking with those who say fake this and fake that. That's why I wrote "tell me when you get it"... I believe that this video is real if you're still doubting it :P

  • Lol it's the dell sound CD that installed bloatware that never worked, that came with my dimension 3000...

    LOL

  • Line the inside of the lampshade with aluminum foil if you want light to reflect down below it instead of just lighting up the shade

  • What is that orange thing?

Ive been wondering since it doesnt say, is it required or can the wires just be soldored together?

  • Pretty cool and creative.

  • huh..COOOOOOL!

  • huh..COOOOOOL!

  • fake

  • lol

  • how do u make the lamp shade

  • cut the circle out and cut half way to the center and then kinda slide it together

  • oh k =D ty!

  • just made one, but this time i put it inside an old cd player, so it is disguised

  • Not bad. Just work on the design, so it looks like you actually bought it. ;p

  • Why does something like that have to look bought?

  • Awesome

  • OMMFG

  • Brilliant! Good job! Very crafty idea! :D

  • *o* WOW!!!! that's cool.
