What a great piece to sum up the life of Mozart, the greatest. He was a papegeno in his personal life, but Tamino whenever his pen touched paper to write any piece of music.
The other majesty of this whole opera, is that Mozart was on deaths door when he wrote it, and would die shortly after the premiere. In those days, there werent a lot of second chances like running to the doctor.

My grandson Abdiel who is 16 months specifically requests Beethoven's fifth or Papageno before going to bed. You may think I'm lying but I would love for everyone to see him move the baton as he watches Leonard Bernstein direct Beethoven's masterpiece or while listening to Papageno! I am marveled at the music and at him listening to it.
I went to a performance of this with my friend two days ago. During this song I leaned over to her and went 'P-p-p-pokerface" and the entire row behind us burst out laughing.
It saddens me sometimes that people don't acknowledge that Mozart was WITHOUT a doubt the greatest composer of all time. How can it even be questioned? Dead at 35 and he has masterpieces in every musical genre of his time.
Yes, but that is an opinion. It depends what type of music you like. I like classical, but I wouldn't consider it "superior" besides the fact that it is more complex and requires mastery of music and a high level of understanding to achieve playing or composing.
Today, anyone can be talented. You don't even have to work at it. At least classical composer weren't famed for looks!
Wow, that was supposed to be a fair review..... oops! Guess I am a little biased...

I totally agree. I watched this opera in Rio de Janeiro, in 1994, sung in Portuguese. Since everybody was able to understand the whole piece, the interaction between the music and the audience was perfect. This final meeting was a magic moment which I could never forget. Many people around me were crying at the end of the aria. If we think that this was also one of the last things Mozart put on paper, it gets even more powerful.

I like both opera and musical, among them "Die Zauberflöte" and "Rent" ... it's stupid to compare them, since they are a different kind of art with a different target audience. None should underestimate Larsson, though. Still, Sondheim made the greatest musicals. Watch Puccinis "La Boheme", it's a beautiful piece and the connection to Rent is obvious. I prefer "Turandot" though. And I have to admit that I like "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" better than "Die Zauberflöte"
Perhaps, sir, you should try watching Puccini's La Boheme? It is, after all, what your precious little musical "Rent" is based off of. People go to see Die Zauberflote for various reasons. I personal watched it for the music. Mozart was talented, if a bit of a text-book composer. Some people, funnily enough, can speak German, and thus, understand it perfectly. Please don't be rude, I personally can't see the appeal of Rent myself. I suppose it comes down to personal preference.

This is a classical opera, with beautiful music! That is why people go to see die Zauberflote!
dromeda13 2 years ago
because its a classical piece and perhaps some people understand it? i dont know

Who are the singers? And where was it performed?
ElisabettaVS 2 years ago
The singers are Barbara Kilduff as Papagena and Manfred Hemm as Papageno. I don't know where it was performed though.

se demuestra la inmadurez de mozart
en esta parte de la opera
duuu lastima, prefiero a Wagner
Calaf120 2 years ago

I wonder if Lady Gaga was inspired by this when she wrote "P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-Pokerface."
