Mika wanted it. its because she is 5 ft. tall which is the height limit of Mini Moni. In multiple interviews, people asked why Mika wore different costumes than the others, and thats how they answered everytime. Yaguchi Mari, who was one of the creators of Mini Moni, asked Mika if it was alright, and by the looks of things, Yaguchi made sure that Mika was always comfortable wearing different costumes than the rest of them.

People usually think its b/c she is only 50% Japanese, but its not.

The Date Version was released as the single and the Ofuro Version was a remix for the album.

because she's not really that different. I mean seriously, Mika's the embodiment of the "other" that japanese culture usually give a hard time to join the culture. That's why it's even a surprise to me that they still included her in Minimoni. But I suppose she's just charming like that. :)

It's not *that* surprising. Mini Moni was meant to be educational, for children, and that included teaching bits of English. (This was a bigger part of their stage shows than their TV appearances and PVs.) H!P had the Coconuts sitting around doing almost nothing else, so they tapped Mika. She had the height and the perky attitude, so it worked well enough.

Anyhow, kudos to you for grokking why Mika wore different costumes. It's so frustrating to explain it to most people.

i also heard somewhere that they were thinking of hiring the height limit? there's a clip where Mari tells the interviewer that Kago was really worried she would grow taller than the height limit and have to leave and Mari says i should think about raising the height limit. although if this ever happened i'm not sure :)

I don't think the height limit was ever that important. I love Mari Yaguchi, but I think she saw a great opportunity to team up with the two cute "kids" in Morning Musume when she came up with Mini Moni. Not riding their coattails exactly, but like the phrase, "if you can't beat them, join them". By the time Mari left, I don't think anyone was under 150 cm anymore

Long story. 3 of the members from Mini Moni are also part of a group called Morning Musume in which the members are constantly changing creating "generations". They add new members and graduate old members. From Mini Moni Aibon and Nono are from 4th gen & Takahashi is from 5th gen. Morning Musume's current lineup consists of 5th thru 8th gen, meaning 1st thru 4th gen have all graduated from the group.

In the case of Mini Moni, in this video they were in their 2nd gen since their first leader Mari Yaguchi (from 2nd gen Morning Musume) left the group and added Takahashi in the lineup. But now they've disbanded since 2004.
