GM arrested people? I guess we DO have a corporate takeover of the country. GM should have been legally forced to make them available to whoever wanted them. Maybe some variation of public domain or something.
GM IS BANKRUPT. The revenge of the EV1, and the refutation of the stupid GM management's decision to kill the EV1, is complete. BTW, it's a GM lie to say that there was a waiting list; there was NO official waiting list!! GM didn't want to even lease them.
GM never offered them for sale. The reason they arrested the two actresses was that they refused to sell them for cash, and the actresses were willing to get arrested rather than see them destroyed.
i think they stoped selling them because the GAS stations wern't getting enough ppl buying so idoticly they removed it from there stores, damanded them from there customers and if not given back they would get arrested or something we don't want to waste gas we want to conserve it for times when we really need it
It was only 2 people that wanted to buy the vehicles and the stupid oil companies were pressuring GM to cease production and take back the cars because the oil companies thought that they'd go out of business if they didn't. Yes it does suck to see that GM could do such a stupid thing to such a successful and enviromentally friendly car that could have been the way of the future and I think that the documentary 'Who Killed the Electric Car' rightfully explains that.
Yeah, so what's up with all the people who attended the funeral? The ones that tried everything to not give them back to GM? The endless avalance of people who said they want one, too? The list of people who wanted to buy it?
I'm talking about how the waiting list for orders dwindled down so low that GM had to cancel production due to lack of product interest. By the way, I don't work a General Motors. I do however, want an EV1 really bad. It's a nice car and it has a lot to offer!
Our long range product plan is robust, realistic and green. The plane features 24 major lunches from 2009 through 2012. We also will put our first electric drive vehicle into production for North America by 2010 with 3 additional models by 2013
GM tried with the EV1 and Toyota with the REV-EV but found that the big oil guys play hardball, I say give them a 2nd chance or more if needed but we need an EREV of some type now. Big oil thinks the drop in gas pieces will save them but its to late the cats out of the bag.
They shouldn't be forced to when it would cost them a lot of money to update the safety standards and other stuff, and get the lines running again, money they don't have at the moment.
My timing must have been terrible. I've been working in GM (Saturn) Doing PR for detroit offices since late 2005. And I've never once heard of the EV-1. While I'm a supporter of what saturn has become today since it's days of making the cars people associated with diatsu's. It sickens me that GM purposely takes that large of an effort to un-do positive change. I own 2 hondas at the moment and actually wanted to know if you have any info on electric conversions for older civic hatchbacks? thanks.
Bob Siebert (and others, including Stephano, have or are considering altering Civics to electric. The AC-150 fits perfectly into the engine compartment, and light-weight Lithium batteries give it 100 miles range (or more).
We've found in practice that 120 miles range works best.
I'm a proud owner of Vectrix Electric Maxi-Scooter and I've been following the EV scene and your video blogs since the 'Who killed the electric car' movie.
I never knew before the movie, that you, Americans, already had an EV on the road 10 years ago! I'd love to own EV1 or RAV4 EV and whenever I see an ICE RAV4 on the road, I think to myself:"I'd love to drive RAV4 EV".
The winter is coming for us and I have to drive my Renault Clio again, but I miss driving Vectrix. It's so much fun driving electric vehicle. Whenever I sit in my ICE car I think to myself:"OMG, not ICE again :-(". It's that good of a feeling of driving electric. It's very hard to get back to ICE. But if I had a chance not to, by having an Electric Car, I'd never go back to ICE.
Crime No2 is even a bigger one, because it delyed the evolution of electric car, thus pushing the human kind 10 years into the past.
'Going forward by moving backwards'.
Great job 'liveoilfree' by raising awareness and spreading knowledge. Whenever I have a chance and people ask me about my Vectrix, I tell them the story of the EV1 and RAV4 EV and what GM did to the EV1 and NiMH.
I agree with you. When the CEO went to ask for this bail-out, he flew there on a private company jet that cost the company $20G. The same flight coach would have been $288. Who do they think they are kidding?
They were arrested because they broke the law, not because they wanted to buy an EV1. Lame twisting of the facts ruins all credibility.
But I also firmly believe there should be no bailout for GM, Chrysler, or Ford. I do, however, believe there should be a bailout for the suppliers, which is what the concern is.
I say let the corporate higherups go down with their ship. Ford will gladly buy the Volt program and pick up where GM left off.
GM, you sabotaged the EV-1 electric car by torpedoing demand & selling to Big Oil control of the advanced battery that should have debuted with it. You conspired with Big Oil and Bush to quash the CA clean-air mandate for a quota of electric cars per auto maker. You ripped the EV-1's from their lessees and GROUND them into oblivion. Now you ask, "What will WE do?" and "Collapse is imminent if we do nothing."? You sealed your fate when you conspired against us and KILLED the EV-1 electric car!
GM needs the bailout just like the banking industry does. Truth be know, the bailout is just lining a few more pockets, and there will be a terrible mess to clean up afterwards. GM needs to compete with better cars, and the Volt could springboard them right out of the bind they're in. It wouldn't nayyer if the Volt had a 10 mile range, it would cut fuel usage in half for someone that had a 20 mile commute, and a boss that doesn't mind cords.
doug your video's are always good to watch and i like the fact that you actually do research before you say something! unlike the fuel cell partnership and the like! i almost have my own electric geo built and it with run off solar and wind. you and the guys in who killed the electric car are an inspiration!
I wish more people knew the story of these criminals against America and the world, and someone would have the power and balls to take them to court, and put the CE' in jail. GM should be let to fail, and Chevron taken to court for crimes against the environment. If I polluted a river I could go to jail. They have set the world environment into jeopardy. If those EV's had been continued back then, the influence on auto makers around the world would mean we would all be driving EV's by now.
For job's sake give them the bailout, for product strategy hell no!!
I should focus on the Aptera Typ-1e (or 2e), it's a much better EV in terms of efficiently. It uses 83Wh per mile and it has the same functionality as the EV1. Also the way the company thinks about the future of mobility is way better than GM ever will! And the Aptera will be build in Vista, San Diego.
Great video! Despite that the EV1 is a great EV I don't think GM will ever bring it back. Why would you want to have a GM product anyway? After how they threated you and others?
Totally LOST in Detroit! The new techs DONT USE MOTORS! So GM CANT make them! They are not even MACHINES (more than one moving part). GM has been trying to buy control of 2 small Chinese co.- to get a foot into new tech. EV1 WAY BEHIND!NEVER BE BUILT!BLEW CHARGERS!DUMB TECH! GM execs are FEEBS! They arrogantly REJECT ANY new ideas: not BIG enough for them! The fat pig syndrome! Bush OIL has it too. The meek are indeed inheriting the earth- big surprise! Reality, not HORSESHIT US CRAPPERS!
I agree with you. No one is taking this stuff seriusly. Exept Toyota EV. I belive in that project. Small car, low weight, but not to small, its a bit sexy aka Toyota Starlet kind of thing, more aerodynamic. As a 2.car for city slicking its a damn good solution. 2 mans car off course. the extra car for work. People with monye have 2 cars. So no problem, Peak oil is over as well. Wake upp. Namaste
Imdaz: Way too late - Totally self-propelled transport is now here! Let me explain: Only "Hibrids" dented fuel-car market. Old idea-fuel motor charging batteries. Now no NEED FOR BATTERIES, due to frontal Air Turbines & vibration they make. NATURAL replacement of burning fuel. All magnet generators drive all magnet hub-propulsion. Nothing breaks-you just go & go & go. China has 97% of rare earth mags- so India must get to work fast: break old trad. to RESTORE NATURE with new transport tech.
If GM had kept the EV1 instead of crushing it, they would have the sales that they now need. I don't feel sorry for GM and, I agree, I don't think they need bailed out, unless they bring back the EV1...
Automakers, making cars people don't want, nor can afford to run, are asking for money from those same people, who can ill afford to give it, to continue making the same cars people can't afford to run.
What's wrong with this picture.
My Government just gave a huge handout to Toyota to help them to make a gas/electric hybrid sedan. Like Toyota needed my money to make bigger Prius.
I like this Nate Holden guy. In a rare coincidence, GM's brand in Australia is called 'Holden' LOL.
Actually, regulations had nothing whatever to do with killing the EV1. There is no regulation that requires support of used cars by the maker. That was just a lie.
Besides, we offered to buy under a "salvage title" which means that it essentially isn't a GM product any more.
GM arrested people? I guess we DO have a corporate takeover of the country. GM should have been legally forced to make them available to whoever wanted them. Maybe some variation of public domain or something.
