  • They won't be singing and dancing like that if the guy slams those breaks on!

  • imagine if the cops saw you today driving up the road with all those people in the back of your ute...

  • @cruzajs would love to see your photos if I give u my email would u mind sending if not to much trouble. I'm sure Megan would love to see as well haha

  • Hey guys my sister is the blonde on the end would love to see those photos. She now lives in the states. This group also has another song on YouTube we can all work it out. I was in love with bill haha I was only 7 haha. Megan still looks as gorgeous as she did back then and still keeps in contact with bill I think would love to see more clips as they won on Australian bandstand for best new talent I'm sure !!!

  • I believe Ford began using this jingle in the U.S. for the 1969 model year, and I believe the slogan lasted for most of the 1970's.

  • Hard to believe TV in Australia was still in old B&W back then, even though this Ford TV commercial was shot in colour, mates!

  • I WANT one of those shirts. Just to annoy people.

  • Same theme as Ford used in the USA. By 1969, Ford USA had already dumped the compact Falcon, while in Australia it continued to be a best-seller. The Capri was sold in the US as a Mercury captive import, and the Escort wouldn't be available in the States until 1981. In 1969 the US cars were bigger, longer, and guzzled more gas than ever before. The few exceptions were the Rambler American and the Corvair, which continued to economical alternatives to imported cars.

  • Just back in the UK after a two week visit to Frankston, Oliver's Hill doesn't look much different, Frankston Pier was closed for repairs!! The Falcon was my Dad's favourite car.

  • Lazy advertising..they just copied the US ad from 1969..

  • God Dam them Fords and there clever Tv Ads! This song can really get stuck in your head god! LOL Great history there mate thanks for the upload 5/5!

  • Love The Song...

  • It's interesting to compare this commercial to the American version.

  • ahhh. Sunny Frankston, Oliver's hill hooning and then off to Mt Martha beach for a bbq and some beers as the day fades. Fantastic! Still prefer the X series Fords though, but hey......It's the going thing!

  • Another fascinate song for Ford. But may cannot be beat with "A Wonderful New World of Fords".

  • Oh Gosh! This song now keeps repeating in my head! :) ... it's the going thing...

BTW, you cannot get more 70's than that :) All typical elements of 70's are there, clothing, music, lighting, and cars of course...

  • I found this same ad a couple of years ago on another website with the first 2 seconds cut off the beginning. It's good I've now found a higher quality copy of it.

  • Happened to come across this video and was wondering if you would happen to know who the drummer is in this group. A little hard to see but a very good friend was a drummer this group around this time.

  • Raubarb, the book Who's Who's of Australian Rock lists Geoff Pretty as the only drummer with the Going Thing from 1097 to 73.

  • Thanks Terry....was pretty sure it was Geoff who was in a band with my hubby in the late 70's.

  • @raubarb

Who was your husband in the band??...Bill Hanson is my brother...he's living in the US as is Megan...

  • @MsRm57

My husband wasn't in the Going Thing but was guitarist in another Adelaide band with Geoff.. They both shared a passion for fishing & continued a close friendship until Geoff's passing. A very sad loss & will always with be remembered with wonderful memories.

  • Geoff Pretty is my brother and he died almost 25 years ago from cancer. He was a great drummer, one of the best in Australia. He was also in a band called the Insect and before that The Beavers. It's a shame he died so young.

  • @JulieJedi

Lead singer Bill is my brother..has been living in the US for 40 years as has Megan. We were so sorry to hear of Geoffs' passing...

  • @MsRm57 Very interesting to hear about Bill and Megan. I believe Di Turner is a presenter on Foxtels TVSN shopping channel these days and she looks terrific. I had a big crush on the bass player of the Going Thing - I think his name was Garry. Does anyone know where he is today? Geoff's oldest son is the lead singer of Adelaide's heavy metal band Skintilla. Check out their King of Kings video on youtube. He's a chip off the old block! We miss Geoff every day, he was a real character.

  • @CruzaJS

Aah...David Murray was the bass player...gorgeous guy ( still is ) he lives inner suburban Melbourne. He does television voice over work and still keeps in touch with Bill..Patsy Wills is living in country Vic .Garry Lambert was the keyboard player and yes..Diane still looks 17 !!!.They were a great bunch :))

  • @MsRm57 I stand corrected!! I reckon all the boys were hunks, and I remember the day the whole band came to my mother's house at Holden Hill (in Adelaide), in their brand new Fords - all pale blue with the Going Thing logo on the big truck, all lined up along the street. I have old black and white photos taken on the day. Cheers.
