Actually, the true liberals are libertarians. You big-gov't statists stole that term from us, beginning with FDR. We believe in freedom and small gov't across the board! Not just for economic issues or social issues. We put our faith in individuals and society, not bureaucrats or theocrats.
One thing the liberals definitely were wrong on: Poverty. The War on Poverty has been an abject failure. to this day, about 37 million Americans remain poor. Handouts have given no results.

In fact, he probably wouldn't recognize his party.And saying that slaves would have never been free is absolutely ridiculous. In fact, it was a liberal named Lyndon Johnson who passed the Civil Rights act of 1964, essentially bringing an end to segregation and granting racial equality so to speak.
