My favorite soap ever. There was no greater villian in day time than Roger Thorpe back in the day (him and JR Ewing may have been the two greatest villians ever). I loved the famlies and the characters. I always loved Frank Cooper on the show.
Back in the early 70's when I was in 7th grade i broke both my elbows. As a result I was stuck at home watching one channel on tv (we only had 5). Each afternoon I was stuck watching Beth, Phil and Rick. I actually started getting into the show. Years later I was surprised that Riva was still on the show and still pining for Josh. It was like time stood still. Now, to my surprise the show is being canceled and I had to watch. Seeing all those faces from my past, it is like seeing family again.
i didnt really like the final episode.too sloppy.when reva and josh drove off, they should have had jeffret looking at them drive off from afar, smile and then walk away.HELL,I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THIS SHOWS HEAD WRITER AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER!!!!!
@WIZZINGSHIRE I would have loved for Mel to have found someone new who tried Online Dating. Leah should have gone away to School. Jeffrey came back to town and realized that it would always be Josh and Reva, so he gives his blessing for them to go away but he keeps Colin and moves back to Washington. Jason, Kevin, and Clarissa come to visit and Christina gets a Scholarship to Study Medicine. Vicky, Nick, Alan Michael and Amanda come back for a visit and Fletcher and Alex marry.
@laminage would have been nice to have seen ALL of the spauldings at alans goodbye.this ending simply proved why the writing staff killed GL.it was horrible.i would love to somehow ressurect it but without my man alan, its just not GL.and that crappy music!!!!! HATED IT!!! and the scenes around town, bad.it looked like a little hick town.studio scenes were much better even though they got cheap with those also.you ever compare the sets from the 80's and 90's to what they were in the last few years
been watching this show since i was a kid.after this show was axed i thought hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe i could revive it but when alan died,MY ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER ON TV PERIOD,i thought this show is truly dead.i still miss it. :(
Hey everyone! I will be interviewing actress Kim Zimmer (Reva) on Friday for Vizion Online Magazine (patrickvizionmagazine.weebly.com). The video will be up on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. Does anyone have any questions that they would like to ask? Deadline for questions will be Thursday night.
The first 12 seconds sum of my feelings for this once wonderful show....this was the beat part of the final to me...to see all the openings summed up together...I watch it at least 100 times a day..isoooooo still miss the show 1 year later:(
WHEN I FINALLY DECIDED OHH IM GONNA WATCH GUIDING LIGHT CAUSE I WATCH THE OTHERE SOAPS...I HEARD IT WAS FINISHED...SEEMS LIKE A GOOD SOAP..AND ALOT OF PPL LOVED IT
@silenthillmaster755 that's y the ratings were low Guiding Light started off strong but in 2003 and after the show got pathetic too much changes too intro changes it lost its touch!
I'm sorry but I used to watch this daily for about 7 or 8 years, and the last few years just SUCKED! I completely stopped watching 2 and a half years ago.
Ciao to my favorite character ever: Buzz Cooper... I'll miss him very, very much and, with him, all the wonderful Cooper family, past (Jenna, Deenie) & present (Frank, Cyrus, Marina). Viva Guiding Light!
Roger Thorpe made the show. When Michael Zaslow died, so did the show. You would walk down the street in the 70's or the late 80's and you would hear people talk about Roger Thorpe like JR. Ewing on the street. I'll never forget being a kid on July 4th 1976.
Funny you should mention that, my aunt who was a long time viewer of GL back in the 70's, 80's up until the early mid 90's said the same thing. Just like Y&R, once the legendary Bill Bell died a few years ago, so did the show IMO. Guiding Light marks the end of an era and I seriously think it's the beginning of the end for daytime dramas/soap operas as we know it.
A lot of them have pretty much ran their course, and probably will be getting cancelled by the networks in the near future.
It seemed like Roger Thorpe always had great lines, and even his "down" scenes seem to have more of a purpose than filling time. The plot always went forward when he was on the screen while other characters just seemed to dwell there unless they were being used by Roger. When he came back from the dead in the 70's to haunt his ex and get his daughter, that was well ahead of its time, copied by others repeatedly, not to mention very thrilling even as a kid to view.
so like no more GL ever like it over done with they just wrapped everything up quick with olivia and nat. blake and frank. and buzz and everyone that is sad.
@PantherJM15 Do you realize the Mistake that GA made when he saw CJH. First he shakes Fletcher Reade's Hand, and when Fletcher says how sorry he was about Alan, he says "Thanks Buzz"
My business on ebay sold an old cast iron water pump to a CBS set designer for GL several years ago so I only watched GL a few times.
I have been a fan of OLTL since 1988 though. It is really sad, even for me, to see the longest running soap gone. You fans must be all broken up over this?
When GL fired Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe on GL) because he was sick, OLTL took him back until he died.
Maybe you GL fans would give OLTL a chance so we don't lose another soap?
Sadly, the day that we've all been dreading September 18,2009 has arrived. "Guiding Light" airs its last episode today. I'm really sad to see it end today!!!!
I sure am going to miss Guiding Light on CBS. I loved the finale this afternoon as it was my favorite final episode of a soap opera next to Another World.
Thank you so much.................. for ever! You have ended a day of anticipation and sorrow... God keep the light in you always! Doris & Ashley, XTina annoying to the end.. GOD Bless her. GREAT FOR ALEX!

Ran digital and ran as cheaply as possible. I don't even think they used lighting (ironically for a show called the "Guiding Light."
