  • i was on this show. If anyone knows where I can get the full show. Please reply. paulbooker222@aol.com

  • I think Bruno looks a little like Judith Chalmers there.

  • ooooooooo what a daisy top of the pops

  • I have got the full edition of TOTP Christmas 1989 and i'd loved it when i saw all of the clips except for Soul II Soul was cut out off at the end and i saw Gary Davies and Bruno Brookes in pantomine costumes and i was glad to see Jakki with Jason Donovan at the end aswell!

I have about around six or seven TOTP christmas specials from the 80's except from 1985, 1986, 1987 & 1988 which is on YouTube now.

  • @Glamking1 could you send me some of the totp xmas specials plus i have 85 ,87 88 im more than happy to send them to you

  • We always used to set the video timer to record the Christmas Top of the Pops show because we had to go to my granny's house for Christmas lunch. I still have about 70% of this show on video, but the first 5 minutes and the last 15 minutes or so have been rubbed off unfortunately.

  • About the only time post-1985 Gary Davies didn't speak with a horrible Midatlantic twang on TOTP.

Have to say, Jakki Brambles (still spell her name that way) was a better TOTP host than many people may remember; she once cut Jenny Powell down to size on one edition, and she also showed often enough she knew her music biz. Consider at the time the other regular female host on TOTP was Anthea Turner...

She still looks good these days, but is wasted IMO on Loose Women.

  • Tell us more about the Powell incident.

Anthea Turner - An Urethra Net.

  • Coming out of the video to Bobby Brown's "Roni" on TOTP, 23/11/1989:

Jenny: (excited) So, do you fancy Bobby Brown then, Jakki?

    Jakki: (matter-of-factly) No, Jenny.

Best female TOTP host: Janice Long, original and best by far. Worst: Turner, Cotton, the ones from "Year Zero"... take your pick.

  • Did Annie Nightingale ever get a stint on TOTP?

  • She only appearanced once - on the special edition that went out on 30/9/1982 to celebrate 15 years of Radio 1, but she only got one line during the whole show alongside all the other Radio 1 DJs of the time.

Annie was, at that time, the main host of the Old Grey Whistle Test.
